Lakers vs. Thunder preview: Beware of Russell Westbrook

Russell Westbrook is ripping the NBA to shreds and has the Lakers on his plate tonight.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

There's a force barreling through NBA teams this season and it's name is Russell Westbrook. The Los Angeles Lakers hit the road to face the Oklahoma City Thunder, and even with the bevy of injuries the Thunder are trying to overcome, should have a very hard time escaping with a victory. Los Angeles has gone just 7-26 on the road this season, struggling to find the win column when venturing outside of Southern California.

The Lakers are expected to shake up their starting lineup, playing Jeremy Lin and Jordan Clarkson together while Ryan Kelly takes over starting power forward duties. Tarik Black and Wesley Johnson round out the "new" starting five. Bryon Scott will also miss the next two games following his mother passing away.

Westbrook has been stacking triple-doubles through the second half of the season, looking like a man possessed on the basketball court. Kevin Durant is out indefinitely, still dealing with foot issues, while Serge Ibaka is missing an extended period following knee surgery. That leaves Westbrook as the lone survivor, but he's been brilliant as the focus of the Thunder.

The tank went off of it's path against the 76ers, but a five-game road trip that kicks off in Oklahoma should get things moving again. By the time the Lakers reach Philadelphia for the final game of this tour, on the final day of March, we'll have a much better idea about where their draft lottery standings sit. Enjoy the game, which will probably turn a demolition derby for Russ. Beware flying objects.
