How far would you go to meet your favorite athlete? For engaged couple Eric Fang and Jessica Wong, the answer was to attend a Lakers game and hold up a sign inviting Jeremy Lin to their April 18 wedding.
While Lin has not responded as of yet, Fang did get to see his favorite player have one of his best performances in a Lakers uniform, scoring 29 points to go with five rebounds and five assists in 29 minutes off the bench, taking over the game down the stretch and leading the Lakers to victory over the Philadelphia 76ers.
Fang said he was surprised to see the attention that he got on social media for his sign inviting Lin to his wedding, but noted that he was loved it as well. The 31-year old life long NBA fan has also been a fan of Lin's since his 2012 "Linsanity" breakthrough with the Knicks because "He's crazy good at balLin' it up, has Lindustrious work ethic, is an underdog, of Taiwanese decent, a great role model, and super strong Christian."
As a Lakers fan from a very young age, Fang was also excited to see Lin end up on his favorite team. Because he lives in Brea, the commute to Staples Center is a much shorter trip than flying to Phoenix to watch Lin (then with the Houston Rockets) take on the Phoenix Suns.

As for why he chose to attend last night's game specifically, Fang said "I really wanted to get Lin's attention, as one last push before the upcoming wedding." He also noted the sign was a friend's idea and said that "I've been working extremely hard these past three years to try and finally met Lin in person to thank him for being an awesome guy, great Christian role model, [and] Linsane NBA player."
Fang did not think the couple's presence was a good luck charm for Lin, who scored well above his season average of 11.1 points, saying that all the performance showed was that Lin was a great player who needs more playing time and a coach's support.
Aside from lack of playing time, another obstacle Lin has had to overcome this season has been a crowded lane due to the lack of spacing provided by a poor-shooting Lakers team. The 26-year-old point guard would not face such overcrowding at Fang and Wong's Gatsby themed wedding. "Lin will get his own table if he wants (fits 10)", Fang said, "I just need to know ASAP to tell the caterer."
His own private table? It seems that even in a down year, there are still some perks to being a Laker.
