Lakers vs. Knicks preview: Phil Jackson's in town

The Knicks are in town, and Phil Jackson came along.

Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks are engaged on the battlefield, steering their tanks directly to the 2015 NBA Draft. Phil Jackson's first season with the Knicks has gone worse than even the most pessimistic fan may have expected, and New York is at the very bottom of the NBA.

This is one of the biggest games for the Lakers' draft chances. Los Angeles still has two games against the Philadelphia 76ers, and another against the Minnesota Timberwolves. In this twisted world of tanking, and the Lakers finally being mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, that's a pretty tough schedule to dance around.

The Lakers snapped their losing streak, but the Pistons have been horrendous post All-Star break. The Knicks haven't been much better, going 2-8 over their previous 10 games while trotting out Andrea Bargnani and Louis Amundson. New York is headed straight toward the top of the draft, with talent that could turn the franchise around.

Phil Jackson being in town will likely turn into the story tonight. Considering that Kobe Bryant has been attending home games, we might just get a Phil and Kobe moment. Enjoy the inevitable. Really.
