Lakers draft 2015: Karl-Anthony Towns is No. 1 in latest ESPN mock draft

There's a new No. 1 on one of the biggest mock drafts available.

The NBA Draft is coming into focus as March Madness begins to take over, and there's a new No. 1 pick on Jeff Goodman of ESPN's mock draft. Goodman has Towns heading to the New York Knicks with the first-overall pick with Jahlil Okafor dropping to the Philadelphia 76ers at No. 2.

Where does that leave the Lakers? They're picking fourth with D'Angelo Russell out of Ohio State putting on a Lakers draft-day cap in the future. Russell is an exciting guard prospect that we've profiled once here already. D'Angelo isn't the first point guard off of Goodman's board, however, with Emmanuel Mudiay going third-overall to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Lakers are currently in position to retain their 2015 first-round pick, a big step as the team journeys toward becoming competitive again. Russell fills a positional need and has seen his draft stock explode through the year while Mudiay draws mixed interest without any college experience to go off of.

Here's what Goodman had to say about Russell:

No one has seen his NBA stock soar quite as much as Russell since the start of the season. He's not an explosive athlete, but he has a high IQ and can both facilitate and score. The Lakers need an upgrade at the point guard spot, and they will get Kobe Bryant and Julius Randle back from injuries next season.

The franchise is well on it's way to making this a reality, but until the draft order is set and it's time for the Lakers to call their guy, there will be plenty of experts projecting and analyzing how teams will pick.
