The Los Angeles Lakers earned their second preseason win, albeit in a shortened contest, behind solid offensive performances from Jordan Clarkson and Julius Randle. The Lakers also stepped up defensively and limited the defending champions to 38 percent from the floor.
Clarkson scored 17 points on 7-9 shooting. He also added five rebounds and only committed one turnover in just under 18 minutes of action. Randle dominated on the interior and finished with 14 points on 4-8 shooting. The power forward got to the free throw line with his bruising style down low and converted on six of his seven attempts. Randle only played 12 minutes after getting in some early foul trouble.
Rookie D'Angelo Russell debuted his new haircut and also played just 12 minutes in his return to the starting lineup. The prized rookie had four points and two assists in the game.
Marcelo Huertas emerged as a legitimate point guard option for the Lakers in this game. Huertas had four points and six assists in just 12 minutes of play. He made some spectacular cross-court passes and found open guys on multiple occasions.
The Lakers played better defense against a Golden State team resting some of its key players. Klay Thompson, Andrew Bogut and Harrison Barnes did not suit up for the contest and the Warriors certainly missed them. Golden State only shot 38 percent from the floor, although Stephen Curry shot 50 percent from behind the arc en route to 19 points in a little over 22 minutes.
The Lakers get a day off before facing the Portland Trailblazers on Monday.
