Wayne Ellington's father killed, Lakers grant indefinite leave of absence

Wayne Ellington will be away from the Lakers while his family deals with a tragic event.

Jake Roth-USA TODAY Sports

Wayne Ellington's father was murdered on Sunday in Philadelphia, and the Los Angeles Lakers have granted him an indefinite leave of absence as his family grieves. Ellington, and the Lakers, released a joint statement on the tragic news:

"My family and I are devastated by the news of my father's murder on Sunday night in Philadelphia," said Ellington. "We appreciate everyone's support and ask that you respect the privacy of our family during this very difficult time."

There is no timetable on his return.

We offer our deepest condolences to Ellington and his family. Our thoughts and prayers are with them here at Silver Screen & Roll.
