Metta World Peace is expected to be amnestied by the Los Angeles Lakers, but the decision has not been made official. He cannot be amnestied until July 10, and the Lakers have until July 16 to execute the process. If he is amnestied, however, his preferred destination is the New York Knicks, according to Sam Amick of USA Today.
Other teams that interest World Peace include, in order of interest, the Los Angeles Clippers, Brooklyn Nets, Chicago Bulls, Miami Heat, Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs and the Indiana Pacers.
In short, he wants to join a team expected to be deep in the playoffs.
World Peace will have to clear waivers before he can make his own decision as a free agent, but he has made it clear to potential bidders he does not want to join a team expected to miss the playoffs.
The Lakers would look to save roughly $19 million by using their one-time amnesty provision on the lone small forward on the roster.
