The Los Angeles Lakers will not discuss the possibility of amnestying Pau Gasol, according to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne. The Lakers can use the amnesty between July 10-16, but won't consider using it on the spaniard.
The Lakers are expected to slide Gasol up to from power forward to center and expect him to be a more "natural fit" at the position in Mike D'Antoni's offense.
Gasol is set to make $19.2 million in the final year of his contract with the Lakers. He struggled with injuries and finding his place in the offense last season and scored a career-low 13.7 points per game on just 46 percent shooting -- also a career-worst.
Frontcourt depth for the Lakers includes Jordan Hill, rookie Ryan Kelly, and second-year player Robert Sacre. Metta World Peace also spent time at the power forward position last season. Expect the Lakers to reach out to additional help at both the power forward and center position as they move forward.
