Dwight trade rumor: Warriors willing to trade Andrew Bogut and Harrison Barnes or Klay Thompson for Howard

Dwight Howard is set to meet with the Warriors, a team that will need to work out a sign-and-trade with the Lakers to acquire Howard. They are prepared to send out an assortment of players.

Dwight Howard will meet with the Golden State Warriors on Monday, and the team is rumored to be willing to part with a package consisting of Andrew Bogut and either Harrison Barnes or Klay Thompson in a sign-and-trade deal with the Los Angeles Lakers, reports Marcus Thompson of the San Jose Mercury News. The Lakers and Warriors have not engaged in any sign-and-trade talks, reports Ken Berger of CBS Sports.

The Warriors are one of five teams that will court Howard despite their lack of cap space to offer him a contract. Bogut is an expiring $14 million contract and could be combined with either Barnes ($2.9 million) or Thompson ($3.2 million).

The Lakers would hold leverage in any discussions if Howard decides the Warriors will be his future home. Without the Lakers accepting a sign-and-trade deal Howard cannot sign with Golden State.

Thompson was the Warriors third-leading scorer, averaging 16.6 points per game on 40 percent shooting from beyond the arc. Barnes will be a second-year player who averaged 9.2 points and 4.1 rebounds per game. Bogut struggled with health issues, as per the norm through most of his career, and appeared in only 32 games. He averaged 5.8 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.7 blocks per game.
