Lakers will have last word with Dwight, according to report

The Lakers will have the opportunity to get the last word with Dwight Howard.

USA TODAY Sports

The news surrounding Dwight Howard's free agency, which begins on July 1, has poured in Thursday. The latest development is that the Los Angeles Lakers have been informed that they will have the last word with Howard after he concludes his visits with other teams, according to Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times.

Howard is expected to meet with the Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks and Atlanta Hawks. No additional teams have been indicated from Howard, or "sources close to him", as of now. It has also been reported that Howard will not drag out the free agency process and will sign his name as soon as possible, which is July 10.

Kobe Bryant had previously spoken about his intention to have a small discussion with Howard prior to his free agency and then allow him to explore his options. Bryant stressed the importance of getting the "last word" in his approach to Howard's free agency.

Now, it appears the Lakers and Bryant will have that opportunity once he's done meeting with his other potential destinations.
