The Washington Wizards and Phoenix Suns completed a trade that sent Marcin Gortat, Shannon Brown and a platter of players to Washington in exchange for an "indefinitely" injured Emeka Okafor and top-12 protected 2014 first-round draft pick. The Wizards are expected to release all "non-Gortat" players, which would place Brown on waivers. Could he be on his way back to the Los Angeles Lakers if he clears waivers? The "word is" Brown will make a return to L.A., according to Steve Kyler of HoopsWorld.
Brown averaged 10.5 points per game last season but shot a career-low 27 percent from beyond the arc.
The timing on the potential of this move, however, makes it difficult to see a clear path for Brown to rejoin the organization. The Lakers must submit their 15-man roster by the 5 p.m. ET deadline on Monday and are currently at maximum capacity.
Xavier Henry, Jodie Meeks, Wesley Johnson and Nick Young already provide the team with wing depth behind Kobe Bryant, though, and releasing a player on a partially or fully guaranteed contract to add more of the same would be a curious move.
