Pau Gasol injury: Lakers big man out vs. Knicks

Hobbled by tendonitis in both knees, Gasol will sit out the Lakers game against the Knicks on Thursday night.

Los Angeles Lakers forward Pau Gasol will not play against the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Thursday night, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPNLA.com. The prime time showdown with the Knicks will be the sixth consecutive contest that the 32-year-old Spaniard has had to miss with tendonitis in both knees.

Gasol has battled the injury all season long, to the tune of career lows in points per game (12.6) and field goal percentage (42.0 percent). When healthy, the 11-year pro had been saddled by an inability to get comfortable in new head coach Mike D' Antoni's uptempo offense.

Antawn Jamison will get the starting nod at power forward in Gasol's absence. The 36-year-old veteran has been inconsistent since stepping into the starting role, averaging 10.2 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists in his last five games.

Tipoff is slated for 5 p.m. PT and the game will be televised nationally on TNT.
