When Mike Brown was fired, former Blazers' coach Nate McMillan was mentioned as a darkhorse candidate for the head coaching job. Now he is being considered as an assistant coach candidate for Mike D'Antoni's staff. This according to Ken Berger of CBSSports.
Mike D'Antoni expected to reach out to fellow USA assistant Nate McMillan as potential defensive assistant, league source tells @CBSSports.
Getting McMillan to be an assistant, particularly after having his name thrown around for the head coaching spot, is a hard sell, but he would be a nice yin to D'Antoni's yang. He's an overrated defensive coach (just like D'Antoni is an underrated one) because of the methodical pace his Blazers played at, but to have him as the defensive coordinator would be better than nothing and we've seen this combo work when D'Antoni had Mike Woodson as his helper in New York (the Knicks were better defensively than they were offensively under D'Antoni when Woodson was there).
You can also expect Dan D'Antoni, Mike's brother, to be on the coaching staff.
