The First Two Weeks Of The Regular Season Have Been Canceled

via sustaining-people.com

David Stern meant what he said. He warned that the first two weeks of the regular season would disappear if no deal were reached today, and that's exactly where we are. Two days of meetings in New York failed to yield any significant progress, and accordingly the Commish took a match to 14 days' worth of games. A quick roundup of the details:

  • According to Stern, the two sides remain "very, very apart on all issues." He warns that "with every day that goes by, there will be further reductions on what's left of the season."
  • Adrian Wojnarowski has reaction quotes from two unnamed GMs. One: "Now it gets ugly. God help us." Two: "I think the best case scenario now is 50 games, but I can see the whole season gone."
  • According to Derek Fisher, both sides are still asking for 53% of basketball-related income. Also, decertification of the union is an option.
  • There are no further talks scheduled.

And here are the games that have been lopped off the Lakers' schedule....

11/1 - Oklahoma City
11/2 - @ Golden State
11/4 - @ Phoenix
11/6 - New Orleans
11/7 - @ Sacramento
11/9 - San Antonio
11/11 - Denver
11/13 - Detroit
