Decision on Barnes Charges Delayed

Matt Barnes appeared briefly in court today in Sacramento, as required by the terms of his domestic-violence arrest last week, but neither he nor we learned more about his fate. KCRA in Sacramento reports that the district attorney wants more time to decide whether to lodge formal charges against Barnes. As a result, the judge agreed to delay a decision until October 18th.

This means that Barnes will likely miss at least some training-camp activities to attend court proceedings. There's no preseason game on the 18th - the Lakers play either the Jazz or the Clippers at Staples on the 17th and then the Jazz in Anaheim on the 19th - but Barnes would have to skip the interstitial practice time, assuming the court date doesn't get postponed further. The Lakers' organization has not issued any comment on the matter.
