I apologize that last night we weren't able to append our normal stats box to our recap of the Lakers' thrilling victory over the Bulls. C.A., as he mentioned, was illin'. As for me, I had to leave right after the game when I got a message from your mom on Adult Friend Finder. I'm sure you understand.
N e ways, the summary numbaz box can be found after the jump. The bullet points below are a trail mix of statty observations from yours truly. Use these to entertain/annoy everyone you're camped out with at Best Buy.
- The Bulls scored exactly one point per possession. This was the fourth straight game the Lakers have held their opponents at or below a point per trip. They've scratched their way up to 11th in the NBA in defensive efficiency.
- This was also the fourth straight game Laker opponents made 25% or less of their three-point attempts. Remember when teams were bombing away from behind the arc? On the season the Lakers have held their opponents to a 33.5% mark from distance, good for seventh in the league.
- The defensive rebounding still sucks. Chicago recovered 32% of their own misses and rang up 22 second-chance points. The Lakers are now 28th in the league in defensive rebounding.
- Still, credit the Lakers for locking down the boards in the fourth quarter. After three periods the Bulls had an offensive rebounding rate of 38%, but in the fourth they pulled in only two of 11 misses. Steve Blake, of all people, had three defensive boards in the final period.
- Last night saw some more splendid free-throw shooting by the Lake Show. For the season the Lakers have made 82.1% of their freebies, second best in the NBA. They've made at least 75% of their FTAs in each of their 15 games.
- In six of their 15 games, the Lakers have actually made a higher percentage of threes than twos.
