Lakers sign Manny Harris to 10-day contract, according to report

Brad Mills-US PRESSWIRE

The Lakers have reached out to their D-league affiliate to help fill out their roster.

The Los Angeles Lakers have signed guard Manny Harris to a 10-day contract, according to Dave McMenamin of ESPN. Harris was previously playing with the team's D-league affiliate, the D-Fenders. He is expected to join the team immediately and will be available for the Lakers' game against the Boston Celtics on Friday.

Harris has played in 13 games for the D-Fenders, averaging 30.5 points per game on 48.5 percent shooting from the field. He went undrafted in the 2010 NBA Draft but signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He averaged 6.2 points in 17.4 minutes per game in his two seasons in the NBA.

The Lakers cleared a roster spot when they waived Shawne Williams earlier in the month and will likely need the extra personnel during the road trip. The league has not announced a suspension for Nick Young following his altercation during the team's loss to the Phoenix Suns, but a suspension is likely on it's way.

The Lakers are already playing with a skeleton roster, so sweeping up the player who just set a D-Fenders franchise record by dropping 49 points is a solid use of the roster spot. A 10-day contract signed on Jan. 16 means his time with the team will last through Jan. 26, the last day of their Grammy road trip.
