The Lakers add a player who found career-high success playing under Mike D'Antoni.

The Los Angeles Lakers officially signed forward Shawne Williamsgeneral manager Mitch Kupchak announced Wednesday. Terms of the contract were not released per team policy.

A previous report indicated the team had extended a training camp invite to Williams, but the Lakers made the roster move official prior to camp, which begins late September. Williams did not play during the 2012-2013 NBA season and last played for the New Jersey Nets during the 2011-2012 season. He appeared in 25 games, averaging 4.5 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.

Williams played under head coach Mike D'Antoni In his lone year with the New York Knicks. He averaged a career-high 7.1 points per game and shot 40 percent from beyond the arc. D'Antoni is reportedly a "big fan" of Williams, who will likely provide relief off the bench at both forward positions.

Williams is a former first-round draft pick, selected by the Indiana Pacers with the 17th pick in the 2006 NBA Draft. He has become an NBA journeymen since then, however, and has had multiple drug-related run-ins with the law.
