It will be so interesting to see how the Kobe vs MJ comparison takes on life as the decades march on. We are still, in a way, in the afterglow of Michael, the League still the League that Michael changed - after Bird and Magic saved it and made it mythic again. This video compilation maybe speaks to how Kobe will be seen when we get some distance to BOTH players. Will Michael start to fade in the same way the Big O faded before the magic of Magic? Will Kobe's legend grow as fans who loved (and hated) him grow older?
A lot is made of the rings. I somehow really don't even think that is the deciding factor. Even Russell's huge ring total seems to dim into a stat. It will be something else, maybe the way that Kobe carried the Jordan momentum further without being coronated by Nike and newly come ESPN. It may be how Kobe finishes out his end - Jordan (despite THE shot) didn't have a great ending somehow, while Kobe is fighting like mad to be special, longer.
Watching this compilation expressed something about Kobe that I really hadn't seen in quite that way. It is meant to show how much he and Jordan were alike, shot after shot, move after move...but all I saw was how unique Kobe was, doing the exact same thing.
