Lakers rumors: Lamar Odom contacted by Lakers, according to report

Jeff Gross

Could a key player in the Lakers back-to-back titles be returning to Los Angeles after forcing his way out?

The Los Angeles Lakers need depth in their frontcourt and have contacted free agent Lamar Odom, according to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN. Odom played with the Lakers from 2004-2011 until he demanded a trade after the infamous trade veto involving Chris Paul.

Odom was ultimately traded to the Dallas Mavericks and had a tumultuous season in Dallas. He then returned to Los Angeles, joining the Clippers -- the team that drafted him in 1999 with the fourth pick overall.

Odom averaged a career low in points per game (4) and minutes per game (19.7) while shooting only 39 percent from the field. He appeared in all 82 games for the Clippers, however.

The Lakers will need to explore options for cheap depth at the power forward, center and small forward position now. The loss of Earl Clark, Dwight Howard and likely Antawn Jamison has decimated the frontcourt rotation that Mike D'Antoni settled on by the end of the season.

There was no indication as to how serious interest would be on either side.
