I'm genuinely asking. In my fanpost about tanking, it was mentioned several times that under the new CBA, rebuilding your team through free agency will be much harder, placing much more importance on the draft.
I don't know the fineries of the CBA well enough and would love to be enlightened. What I don't understand is, if it's so difficult to get players through free agency under the new agreement, why did many of the biggest free agents change teams this summer? Dwight Howard, Josh Smith, Andre Iguodala, Al Jefferson, Andre Kirilenko, Carl Landry, Paul Millsap, Kevin Martin, and Andrew Bynum all changed teams. Chris Paul, Manu Ginobili, David West, Tiago Splitter, JR Smith, and Tony Allen were the names that stayed.
That seems like a decent number of significant pieces moving around the league this summer. So, what am I missing?
