Dwight camp asked about Kobe amnesty, according to report

USA TODAY Sports

Amnesty that? Dwight Howard's representatives had an idea.

Dwight Howard's representatives asked Los Angeles Lakers officials if they were "at least considering" using the amnesty provision on Kobe Bryant, reports Ramona Shelburne of ESPN.

The Lakers were clear they would not discuss putting a timetable on Bryant's return and would allow him to make all decisions while he recovers.

Howard's decision may have been swayed by Bryant's clear message about playing another three years. Howard's representatives met with Lakers officials prior to his contract expiring on July 1 and indicated the superstar center would have a "difficult time" re-signing with the Lakers if Bryant intended to stay beyond the 2013-2014 season, reports Shelburne.

Kobe Bryant is expected to have all restrictions lifted off of his recovery in four weeks -- well before the first game of the 2013-2014 season, according to Dr. Robert Klapper. The timetable for return is Bryant's to make once cleared for all activities.
