Lakers-Celtics Open Thread

USA TODAY Sports

A new era begins.

Lakerdom is far from done mourning the loss of its patriarch Jerry Buss. The memorial service will be held tomorrow, and it will be months, if not years, before the organization and its fans fully internalize the great doctor's absence. But as he would be the first to insist, Showtime must go on, so the Lakers will take the floor tonight, hearts still heavy, to face the team Dr. Buss enjoyed beating the most.

The Celtics went into the All-Star break placed seventh in the East. This is the second game of a five-stop West Coast road swing for them. A week ago Tuesday they lost in Denver, but before that they'd won eight of nine, including a 21-point humiliation of the Lake Show on February 7. There are some rumors kicking around that they might deal Paul Pierce to Brooklyn. Unfortunately that's not likely to happen by game time this evening so we'll all have to look at Pierce's stupid jerk face.
