I'm gonna start with a full disclaimer: I am a Nets fan. But I come in peace.
I'm here to gauge Laker fan interest in Dwight Howard. I'm sure you all are delirious in your brilliant, ninja-like move to steal Steve Nash from the Knicks. This sets you up with a lineup of Nash/Kobe/MWP/Pau/Bynum.
Now I don't think anyone can argue that that lineup is certainly at least a number 2 seed in the West, and is certainly capable of knocking off the Thunder. Nash is a beautiful compliment to Kobe and the rest of the Lakers, and I think you are returned to title contention.
Which brings me to my next question: Are you willing to trade Andrew Bynum and other flotsam and jetsam for Dwight Howard?
Bynum had a breakout year and clearly established himself as a top-2 NBA Center. He's the pride of the Lakers' FO and has turned out exactly how I'm sure you all wanted him to. However, Howard is still likely the superior player. Recent reports, though, say that Dwight only wants to play for my Brooklyn Nets.
With this powerhouse team you guys have developed, I would say it's possible, even probable, that the Lakers could convince Dwight to re-sign if you traded for him. But there would always be that shadow of doubt, that possibility that he would leave.
So, would it be worth it to trade Bynum for a slightly superior player who may or may not return for the Lakers' long-term future? Discuss.
