Hello all it is I Ray DLC or as LG calls me Ray Deezy. Well I'm writing how Kobe is better than Lebron...Kidding kidding. Ease up SCG put your shoe back on your foot, it was a joke easy now. I'm actually writing this post of watching the Olympic Torch Relay as a kid. This was 84' The City of L.A. got the Olympics. A bit of history for those born way after 84' which is most of you, we were in the midst of a Cold War, Reagan declared Communism evil, missile silos were being built everywhere, Russia boycotted the Olympics etc etc. (I'm showing my age here).
Well when they planned the route of the Olympic Torch Relay it happened to run in my neighborhood in Oxnard! Nobody laugh we are die hard fans down there. Anyone paint there garage Purple and Gold with a Lakers emblem in the middle? That's how we roll bitchez! But yeah the Olympic Torch was being run through my neighborhood less than a mile away from where I lived.
My parents took me and my siblings to the route and we got to see something that I will never forget The Olympic Torch. I don't remember the person holding it but I remember the orange flame dancing around and flickering but never burning out (the torch can withstand winds up to 40mph). Once the relay runner went past I headed into Safe-way with my Olympic Program they handed out.
The relay finished quickly but in my memory it lasted much longer. While not paying attention I ran into someone and that person rudely grabs my program. I look up and like demi-gods three Olympians stood before me. How do I know they were Olympians? By the Gold Bling hanging on their necks that's how. They each signed my program, I wish i had my program to know who signed it. But, alas it is gone forever.
Fast forward to 2008 I was visiting family in California. My aunt wanted to go to the Ronald Reagan Library in Simi Valley. They just recently moved Reagan's Air Force One there so we decided to check it out. While on tour they had on display all of the gifts the President has received during his tenure, including a Laker jersey or two. And on the wall was the same Olympic Torch I saw as a kid being displayed as a relic in a museum. Jezuz I feel old.
A few interesting facts OJ Simpson was a torch carrier, wonder if he used the same path as he did during his bronco escape. The Fabulous Forum was home to The 1984 Olympic Basketball Team. So you can technically say Jordan was a Laker before he became a Bull.
