After reading the off-season trade target post and playing with the trade machine to find out what could ACTUALLY happen, I discovered what what make sense for two teams (one of those is us!). If this does not work, the trade of Pau Gasol for Kyle Lowry and Louis Scola would be a consolation prize. To finally get to the point, swapping Pau Gasol and Steve Blake and we would get Danny Granger and David West.
Let me first explain why the Pacers would do this. They just got a new GM who is probably looking to make a name for himself. They are definitely going to re-sign Roy Hibbert and are looking to upgrade if possible from West for a little more size. George Hill will most likely test free-agent waters and get a lucrative deal due to a weak pool from the point guard position this summer. Eric Gordan wants to come home and they feel comfortable moving their budding star (Paul George) to the starting small forward position. Their starting lineup would look like this:
PG- Darren Collison
SG- Eric Gordan
SF- Paul George
PF- Pau Gasol
C- Roy Hibbert
Bench- Steve Blake, Psycho T, Draft Picks, and more
Our reasoning is simple. We get a great compliment to Bynum by acquiring David West, who is a perfect fit with the high pick and pop/high post offense (this guy is money from the elbow). Along with being a good fit his contract is very reasonable for his production. The biggest key is getting Danny Granger though. This guy is so under-rated. He is a fantastic shooter who would flourish being the third option. He is not primary scorer some want him to be but he would not have to be with us. He would have so many open shots from the doubles that Andrew and Kobe get night in and night out and by attaining him we know we get a consistent shooter and not someone who just had a good year before. After the trade we amnesty World Peace and try to extend (re-structure Kobe's deal to make it more friendly). Our Lineup would look like this at the minimum:
PG- Ramon Sessions
SG- Kobe Bryant
SF- Danny Granger
PF- David West
C- Andrew Bynum
Bench- re-signed: Jordan Hill and Matt Barnes, still on roster: Josh McRoberts, Glock, and more. Hopefully we have room to target either O.J. Mayo for a 6th man or Goran Dragic for starting point guard duty and let Sessions run with the 2nd unit.
