The Credits: "Tomorrow, When the War Began"

Paul: Psst, Derek, did they blow the whistle?
Derek: MY ARM ARGGHHHHH

The Los Angeles Lakers are in Boston and eager for a road win, at least we hope they are. With another off day before the big showdown tomorrow against the Celtics, the Lakers are surely running through some offensive sets and fine-tuning some plays. The short travel between Philly and Boston should benefit the Lakers, and they should be somewhat fresh and rested for tomorrow's TNT clash.

One Laker, well ex-Laker, player who probably didn't get much rest is Derrick Caracter. Caracter was waived yesterday by the Lakers, and it seems the reason was monetary. What's that, you're not buying that? We tracked down Caracter and asked him for his thoughts:

"Chaovalkhaohfeaa, Im aakdaGULP, lakers, fanx" - DC while struggling through syrup laden 'cakes.

After that, I was able to track down another source who said that contracts not waived by the 10th would have become fully guaranteed. Good move, Lakers. So that leaves the Lakers with 14 out of 15 roster spots filled. Where does that take us? Sessions? Arenas? J.R Smith? Nope, apparently the other big "story" was Rondo for Pau.

Things just keep getting better and better.

So many good links Blue. I'm glad that although I couldn't comment I could still click

on the links. So many awesome stuff going on.

I mentioned before that because its NY and Lin’s comments like he had on NBAtv mentioning his “lord and savior” comments that he was going to start being called the Tebow of the NBA. Sure enough, just seen The Basketball Jones video and they called him just that.

btw..that video of Larry Bird being interviewed by Bill Simmons is awesome, especially that type of praise he gives Kobe. Two Thumbs Up on that video.

Agreed on the Simmons video,

and the way he is in it is why I don’t like Simmons

by Aethereal on Feb 8, 2012 9:28 AM PST up reply actions

he has always been that way. If I was a sports writer, as a Lakers fan, I would

take shots at them the way he does but I would also give them their credit like he does with Kobe. But he can get annoying. When he said that he didn’t like it when Larry Bird said his favorite player to watch was Kobe, Bird just did like an “oooooookay” and didn’t even acknowledge it and just kept talking.

Yeah, Bird handled it well,

what I mean is that, as a journalist, the point of the interview is the person you’re interviewing. You’re supposed to ask important questions, in order to get the person you’re interviewing to have the chance to speak his mind on important subjects. But Simmons, despite getting paid out the butt to be a journalist, takes jabs and takes attention away from what Bird’s saying by adding his opinion. It’s just bad interviewing, and that’s the way Simmons always is.

by Aethereal on Feb 8, 2012 10:06 AM PST up reply actions

ooooh I see. Great point. I guess its like going to class and the professor

is more concerned with getting his point of view heard rather than teach.

I guess, in that sense, he is being unprofessional. I would curious to find out how much Simmons actually does get paid.

Yeah, exactly, really good analogy.

And I dunno. He’s got the whole grantland thing going on, and I’m sure ESPN pays pretty well. But more than that, he’s also famous because he’s a journalist, and he’s had a book be a bestseller. It’s just frustrating, but that’s how a lot of ESPN’s journalists are. Famous because they’re controversial/have an opinion, not because they’re good at what they do.

by Aethereal on Feb 8, 2012 10:16 AM PST up reply actions

Thnx

Yeah, I might be wrong, but I think he started by having his own blog. And when it comes to being paid or anytime money comes into play, the goal or purpose must have gone from being a sports journalist to being controversial because that equals page hits.

Right?

I don’t even understand. Let’s say you spent time with one of the greatest to ever do something, something you love. Wouldn’t you, y’know, focus on them? Like, if I got time to seriously talk to Kobe, Jordan, Magic, Bird, Phil, or whoever, even if I wasn’t a journalist I’d probably just shut up and listen

So Larry Bird, Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan

all say the Kobe is better than Lebron. What more proof do we need that Kobe is the man and pretty much have been cheating out of a whole lot of MVP trophies(although none of them have really said that)?

I'd first say that they were probably comparing career achievement.

Not that the Kobe of now is better than LeBron, which is a tough sell to the most diehard Laker fan. Next, it’s pretty damn hard to say that LeBron’s MVPs were undeserved. You could also argue that he had a better case than Rose last year (and Howard over him).

Great!
Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak is awaiting word on details of a workout Gilbert Arenas is planning in Los Angeles later this week and is open-minded about attending, two people with knowledge of the situation told CBSSports.com Wednesday.

Although the Lakers have publicly been noncommittal about whether to pursue the three-time All-Star, Kupchak has nothing to lose by evaluating Arenas as a potential solution to the team’s point guard woes. The workout date has not yet been set, but Kupchak is said to be willing to attend depending on timing and logistics.

“The Lakers are going to take a look at him,” one of the people familiar with the matter said.

Might just be due diligence, but who knows.

If he has even a fraction of his former level of play, it’s more or less a no-brainer.

He's not a two or a three. Just makes no sense to me.

Goudelock is producing while running the back-up point. Blake is returning so the point guard spot should adequately produce. Fill the wings with something productive because there isn’t anything passed Kobe.

by E-ROC on Feb 8, 2012 6:25 PM PST up reply actions

One thing I do want to point out is on the defensive end. I'm not worried about them getting someone

who is a liability on defense. With Fisher on the perimeter defending and Kobe’s gambling, the perimeter defense wont be that much worst because Pau and Bynum are great to make up for the lack of speed on the perimeter. I am only saying this because of Gilbert Arena’s health and age. I just want someone that I can feel really confident when he shoots a wide open three. That will be HUGE. I just keep thinking of how easy it is for other teams to pack the paint and leave Fisher all by his lonesome to help and double on Bynum. It is always his man that helps on Bynum or Gasol. I’m tired of seeing that.
