The Los Angeles Lakers are in Philadelphia to take on the surprisingly good 76ers. How surprising? 3rd in the East, 17-7 overall with a 12-3 record at home. The LakeShow look to put their past game behind them as they face Iguodala and company.

It will be interesting to see how Mike Brown's demeanor is on the sideline following the out-of-nowhere blowout he had last game. Kobe makes a return back home, and is only 23 points away from passing Shaq on the All-Time scoring list, good for 5th place. In other words, a milestone game. Hooray!

If the Lakers plan to steal one on the road, they'll need more production out of everyone not named Bryant, Gasol or Bynum. Get a win, before a two day break and showdown with Boston on Thursday.

I don't like JR Smith but he'll be a big help coming off the bench as well as be Kobe's back-up.

That’ll help in lowering Kobe’s minutes.
Clippers seems to be interested in him. I just hope Mitch is considering him, our bench is pretty much non-existent.

The Clippers, still not done dealing after signing Kenyon Martin on Friday, will pursue guard J.R. Smith after the team he plays on in the Chinese Basketball Assn. finishes its season and he becomes eligible to play in the NBA, said a person not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.

The Clippers aren’t getting enough production off the bench behind small forward Caron Butler and feel as if Smith can provide the team with a big scoring punch at the position, the person said.

not getting enough production off the bench?

mo williams chauncey billups, cp3, and now jr. smith? the clippers are either stupid, or getting cold feet with there guards. this is getting rediculous already.

From what I can tell, they don't, though Musselman does run pro sets.

Musselman also expects his players to defend and hustle. If they don’t, he takes them out of the game quick. The team’s two best players are Gerald Green and Elijah Millsap with Kevin Costner not too far behind..

Wouldn't we still need to open up a roster spot?

Although I totally agree with the premise.

I wouldn't cut Caracter even though.....

I do not like short PFs. I prefer Caracter over Murphy with the possibility of Mike Brown improving his defensive short comings. Cut Kapono or Ebanks for Elijah Millsaps

by E-ROC on Feb 6, 2012 12:02 PM PST via Android app up reply actions

Isn't Kapono fully guaranteed? I don't think they can still cut him...

Ebanks intrigues me, so I kinda want to keep him.

Plus, I doubt Caracter would be picked up by another team, so my evil plan would be: cut him, sign him to the D-fenders for the rest of the season and monitor his development. Then, if he improves significantly over his rookie season, offer him a roster spot with LAL next year, lol. But this year, we need roster space.

by SmokeAndAshes on Feb 6, 2012 12:07 PM PST up reply actions

He’s a guaranteed waste of roster space.

Who is this dude named "source" everyone keeps talking about. I hate him because he keeps spreading rumors.
Howard stated that there was “no way” he would give up everything he has in Orlando to go to the Lakers and be the third option, a source close to the situation said. Howard certainly wouldn’t mind being a third piece on a star-studded team, similar to the situations in Miami and Boston. However, he was turned off by Bryant’s presentation as it suggested something totally different.

The feeling is so strong, in fact, that Howard’s representatives have informed the Lakers that Howard would not sign an extension if they trade for him this season, according to a source. The only two teams with a realistic chance at signing Howard long-term are the New Jersey Nets and Orlando Magic.

btw…this is from the front page of Hoopsworld which got a link from RealGM.com which got from some dude, who got it from ………oh you get the idea.

Well, I could see Kobe laying it out like that

It goes back to that pecking order bullshyt Kobe said last year. You think he woulda learned sumn from the Shaq years since Shaq basically said the same thing in regards to Kobe and his role and he didnt like it either.
Ive been on Dwight about making a choice but if the report is true (it hasnt been denied by Howard or his agent) then i dnt blame him one bit for saying no to the Lakers.

Putting Dwight aside, there's a difference between Shaq/Kobe then and Kobe/Bynum now.

Kobe had already proven that he could carry the team when Shaq couldn’t, Bynum has yet to do so when Kobe can’t. He still has only played one full season in 7 years and isn’t consistent for more than a few games at a time. Kobe has lived up to his promise and potential, and made good on his bold “Kobe eats first” statements by carrying this team this season. Can you say the same about Bynum?

My comment was strictly Kobe/Dwight

Nothing to do with Drew. It doesnt change the fact that its basically the same thing being said, just to a more established and proven player.
As for Kobe and SHAQ. Kobe had his moments but Shaq with all his faults was absolutely, positively Dominating. There was no comparison at that time…

Just to make my comment clearer

Im speaking on Kobe telling Dwight basically the same thing he told Drew last year. Except this time he’s telling a player who’s an mvp candidate in his own right. A guy who’s presence on both ends arguably affects a team more than Kobes at this point in his career. Any way you look at it(if its true) Kobe overstepped his boundaries.

For it to get reported by multiple places indicates that there might be a kernel of truth to it.

Where that is, we definitely don’t know, but w/e. Matt Moore did a pretty good breakdown of the implications at ProBasketballTalk.

But everybody is using the same source though...

it’s not different people corrobating the rumour, it’s just multiple people reporting it.

I just don’t buy Kobe (who has always raved about Dwight) being so narrow-minded, as to insist that Dwight would only be the 3rd option (especially with Pau (White Swan/Black Swan Pau) as the 2nd option???), neither do I believe Dwight is so naive that he actually thought he’d go to LA and it would become HIS team and he’d be 1st option. I thinjk they both have a pretty realistic idea of how the partnership would work.

The rumour is salacious because it plays into the Kobe-aging-superstar-ball-hog stereotypes, but it seems to me that we’ve heard these rumours before (can Kobe fit on the Olympic team, Kobe can’t play with another All Star, Kobe will be against Bynum getting a bigger role) and they all proved false. I’m thinking this is false too.

It hasnt been denied either

We’re talking about the same Kobe who laid out his “pecking order” Replace Drew (who’s offensive game is more refined) with Howard and thats all of a sudden gonna change? You expect a guy who’s always been the man to b ok with getting the “Leftovers” as Kobe put it. lol If true i can see why it woulda turned him off.

Don't buy into EVERY "source" who claims to have knowledge of any of this

NO ONE knows what Dwight is thinking every second and no one knows exactly what was said between the 2. The “sources” that we are constantly hearing making everyone say Dwight is flip flopping are nothing more than people in his camp leaking stuff just to get what THEY want out of this. Friends, or so called friends, tell the media crap just to create a story and drama. If I’m a website or ESPN and I don’t have anything wouldn’t you pay someone “close to the situation” to give you something? People love drama and creating a “Kobe doesn’t want Dwight” thing would only fuel page hits and views.
Idk if anyone remembers, but the same thing was happening last year with Carmelo. Just look at this vid:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDw48rY_nW8

AMMO carried the Lakers to back-2-back titles and we couldn't even get LEWIS MONROE for him...

Melo was upfront from the start.

Told em he wasn’t signing an extension, where he would sign and didnt waver.
As far as the talk between Dwight and Kobe and being told he’ll b 3rd in line? Its definitely believable which adds some credence to it. He told Drew (who is better offensively) the same thing last year. In any case, The only thing Kobe should have been doing is telling him what he wanted to hear in order to get him.

I agree with most of what you said except for one thing

I really do see Kobe telling someone where they would stand in the Lakers line up. I seen his interview in which he says he “eats first” and Pau second and Bynum third. So to completely say or think that Kobe wouldn’t do that is not realistic based on his past comments.

Well, many media outlets can share the same source or quote each other.

I’ve seen this many times on Hoopsworld and you click on the “read more” at the end of each of their posts which is generally link to the same “source” that everyone is quoting and at the end of the day it leads to no one with any validity.
