Super Bowl XLVI Open Thread

Alright, ladies and gents. We've had two weeks of talk, and now it's time for both teams to prove on the field who is the best in the world. This year's Super Bowl gives us the New York Giants from the NFC, led by quarterback Eli Manning and a ferocious defensive line, against the AFC's New England Patriots, who put their hopes on quarterback Tom Brady and coach Bill Belichick. For those of you who have lived under a rock for a past two weeks, this is pegged as a rematch of Super Bowl XLII, when the Giants ended the Patriots' run at perfection and gave us maybe the most improbable catch in Super Bowl history.
Breaking down the matchup after the jump.
The paths these teams took could not be any more different. The Patriots went 13-3 in the regular season, claiming the AFC East crown and home field advantage in the AFC playoffs. They took advantage of the home playoff games, beating the Denver Fighting Tebows Broncos in the Divisional Round before Ravens kicker Billy Cundiff hooked his kick wide left in the AFC Title Game (Ravens argue a scoreboard "malfunction" confused them) as the Pats now can say they have the worst defense ever to make it to a Super Bowl, ranking 31st out of 32 teams. Also, the Pats cut WR Tiquan Underwood last night in a 11th hour roster move, meaning Chad Ochocinco may just see the field.
The Giants had a roller coaster of a season. They started out with a loss to the Washington Redskins, then won 6 of their next 7 games, including a Week 9 win over the Patriots in Gillette Stadium. The Giants then lost 4 in a row and 5 of their next six, the lone win against the Dallas Cowboys on a blocked FG. the Giants the caught fire after another loss to the Redskins, beating the Jets and Cowboys to clinch the NFC East with a 9-7 record. The Giants then scored every point in a 24-2 thrashing of the Atlanta Falcons, went to the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field and upset the 15-1 Green Bay Packers, before beating the San Francisco 49ers with the help of 9ers return man Kyle Williams.
Both teams have their inspiration.The Giants believe that this season in "Deja Blue" of 2007. The Pats are playing for the deceased wife of owner Robert Kraft. Both quarterbacks can elevate themselves to an even higher status with a win. Eli can firmly say he is an elite QB, and Tom Brady can join the G.O.A.T. discussion with his boyhood idol Joe Montana. In the "House that Peyton Built", Peyton Manning watches his younger brother take on his arch nemesis as the football world wonders about his future.
And today, we will see who will be crowned Super Bowl Champions. Coughlin vs. Belichick. Eli vs. Brady. Rob Gronkowski's "Gronk Spike" vs. Victor Cruz's Salsa dance. New York vs. Boston.
Just one more question... ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?!

Because your making it even easier for the QB
The only time sacks would happen then is if the QB is blindsided.
They could just see the rusher and throw it anywhere on the field. Your making it alot harder on defenses in a league where the rules already give the offense the upper hand. Alot of sacks happen because the QB can’t find anyone open and their still in the pocket and they protect the ball and go down. No intentional grounding eliminates those coverage/blitz sacks

QBs are trying to make plays more often than not
and they avoid sacks just as much now just throwing the ball out of bounds. I think the rate at which QBs even throw the ball away is overstated. They throw it away out of bounds already, what difference does it make to give them downfield

Its not out of bounds thats the issue
Its just throwing it to an empty part of the field, your making it alot easier for the QB. You feel the rush in the pocket and you can just throw wheres theres absolutely no one. Which unless the defense is playing a zone is always there. You give a QB an easy way out when the blitz comes with the elimination of int grounding because he can just sit in the pocket all day and throw it away.
The int grounding forces them to at least move outside of the tackles, giving the defense fair shot. Theres already alot of the rules that limit the defense, the offense side can afford to have a couple

QB’s can’t afford to throw at the blitzer, so if their coming from the sides its harder for the QB to set his feet and throw it away from the blitzers and out of bounds. If he’s allowed to throw it down field, he can just hike, set, and release right down the field before even an untouched blitzer can get to him

Any pre-snap penalties follow that rule, penalties that occur during the play will result in a safety if it happens in the endzone.
And throwing it out of bounds, pass the line of scrimmage, while still in the pocket is not int grounding, its only in the open field. So QB’s have to be smart about it

The Tuck Rule is the worst call ever
It was a misinterpretation of the rule.
NFL Rule 3, Section 22, Article 2, Note 2. When [an offensive] player is holding the ball to pass it forward, any intentional forward movement of his arm starts a forward pass, even if the player loses possession of the ball as he is attempting to tuck it back toward his body. Also, if the player has tucked the ball into his body and then loses possession, it is a fumble.
He wasn’t tucking it, he wasn’t going back into his normal stance and got rocked! It was a fumble! smdh ten years later and it’s still terrible

and yea ur right the nfc east has been shit horrendous as of recent years. plenty of damn talent but a lot of choke jobs. i know the eagles season shud never have come down to depending on sanchez’s “lemme just run towards the end zone to get a safety” dumbass to bail them out and sneak them in, there’s no excuse for the piss poor coaching management on the eagles side and that’s why i’m so infuriated. we had arguably the best d-line and the best cornerbacks and instead we take the cb’s out of their comfort zones by hiring an o-line coach to take care of the defense. then sitting here watching the team implode and taking a kick to the gut as the giants, with a less talented roster take it to the pats and win a ring while we can’t even make the playoffs. sorry jus pissed off so had to rant.
