[A] source said Wednesday that Minnesota continues to pursue a possible trade for Lakers forward Pau Gasol, dangling rookie Derrick Williams, who is from the Los Angeles area, and draft choices. The only players considered untouchable by the Timberwolves, who are seeking to add a veteran by the trade deadline, are Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio. The Timberwolves believe it could be enticing for Gasol to play on the same team as fellow Spaniard Rubio.

Derrick Williams has superstar potential, but it's too much of a risk.
This trade will only severely hurt our chances of winning this season, and probably the next season or 2 as well. Minnesota needs to understand that we want to win now, while Kobe can still play at a high level.

This would be a huge mistake for the Lakers.

Captain Obvious, er, MagicJohnson: Kobe, Bynum & Gasol all must step up big to beat the @Hawks.

An interesting note though.
Minny has been connected to Kevin Martin due to Adelman and the Wolves’ biggest hole being at the two. If someone can construct a trade that sends Pau to Houston, Martin to Minny, and enough assets coming back to us (i.e. Lowry, a starting four, and wing depth) to make it worthwhile, that could work.

Just came up with this when I read your comment:

That works. Still makes me queasy because it's a BIG drop from Pau to Williams, even if the latter does have a ton of upside.
Would make for a nice young core between Lowry, Williams, and Bynum though. Interesting what we could leverage the TPE for after that.

Was thinking the same thing.
We’d become a much smaller team..
Also, i just noticed we end up dropping about $6 million in salary in that trade.

That should create a new TPE then, although how that works is beyond me.

Why, they already have Love and Beasley.
I think Ben is right that Kevin Martin is what they want. Minny knows Houston wants Pau, so that’s what they’ll use to get Martin.

honestly I like Lowry
tough guy, but Houston wont part with him…if its a guard theyll part with its Flynn

Love or nothing.
We hold the cards here.
Otherwise, Derrick, a PG, and a SG for Pau. I like that.
Lakers and Patriots forever.
check out the link i posted above, that exactly what we end up getting.

Thanks for the memories Jorge
Im not looking at trade machine but
its got to be a combination of Derrick Williams, Anthony Randolph or Beasley too with a guard coming, maybe Luke R

Hmmm.... Williams has Iggy potential
But we have waaaay too many SF’s and who would step in for Pau? This is where losing Odom hurts so much. Any deal involving Pau should have meant Odom becoming a starter. Don’t like the idea of trading our #2guy for a rookie unknown commodity that’s either a potential good all around like Lebron lite Iggy or another SF riding our bench like Ebanks and Luke

Williams is probably a four, not a three.
He’s 6’9’’, weighs in at 250. Only three bigger than him is LeBron.

He plays mostly as a 3 though.
I’d say his natural position as in his skill set is most similar to a 3 than a 4. He’s not big enough IMO to play the 4 and he’s bigger than most 3s. That was one point a lot of people pointed out about him before the draft. Jack of all trades but doesn’t fit the typical mode of either position.

He is definitely big enough.
His wingspan (7’1.5’’) and standing reach (9’0’’) are longer than Love’s or Griffin’s. He actually compares favorably to Ed Davis and Greg Monroe, sans the extra inch of height. Moreover, going off LeBron’s pre-draft measurements, Williams is actually bigger than him in every respect. I also disagree that his skill set is more suited for the three, as he could take advantage of fours using his shooting ability, quickness, and ability to drive into the paint, whereas it’s less of an advantage against threes unless he can post them.

I much prefer the three way scenario that includes HOU - better chance to get back another proven player or two

How about this:
Derrick Williams, Luke Ridnour, Pekovic, Ellington to Orlando
Dwight Howard to LA
Pau Gasol to Minnesota.
Everybody is happy.
1 week later:
Deron Williams to LA
Blake, Bynum, riff-raff to New Jersey/Brooklyn
It works on TRADE MACHINE DAMIT.
Lakers and Patriots forever.
That's actually fairly intriguing, although it's obviously questionable as to whether Orlando takes that.
Unless we have a trade lined up with the TPE for a four though, I might favor a Lowry/Scola/Lee/picks for Bynum deal.

I doubt Hou is willing to give up Lowry.
He is their best player.

I dont see where Orlando has any leverage as Howard walks for nothing in a month right?
Can they do better than Bynum for Howard because I know they can do worse easily.

my reasoning is:
Orlando is better off with Derrick than they are with Gasol.
Lakers and Patriots forever.
I know it wouldnt happen like this,
but just get it done all at once.
Orlando also receives Dallas’ 2012 1st round pick (from LA) & Minnesota’s 2013 1st round pick

That's actually a fairly balanced trade. Except for New Jersey. Why'd they give Brook Lopez away?
And Deron?
Their ticket sales will plummet.
Lakers and Patriots forever.
yeah, i forgot nj was giving away lopez too.
we could take away the dallas pick from orlando, and give it to NJ. we could also give them one of our future 1st round picks. and possibly even one of our young players (morris, ebanks, mcroberts)

Just out of curiousity
What would Laker Fans think of trading Gasol and Metta World Peace for Monta Ellis, David Lee, and Dorell Wright.
Golden State
gets fleeced. Im sure laker fans would love this deal.
um......
Thanks. Where do I force Kupchak to sign.
