I say go for it
I think that trade and being thrown into the mix of all those orlando gaurds that play similar cause him more prob on top if the injury. Plus svg instantly said I dont care who we sign jameer is our guy that could be kind of deflating

Do it.
I’m sick of our bench sucking. Anything to spark the team. I’d rather have JR Smith but if we can’t do that, Gilbert will have to do.
What is the nature of your thoughts, gentlemen, when you say "fuddle duddle" or something like that?

ill take "agent zero" anyday...
over fish, and over the “rumored” want of a certain 36 yr old pg, thats been out of the league for awhile now…his name? A.I….aka…allen iverson. no thanks mitch!! lets move on here…!

And why couldnt we pursue both of these players....

Lakers trying to construct one of those teams if everyone was in their prime, they'd be the most dominant ever.

Um Celtics last year
Shaq, KG, Wheelchair, Ray Allen, and Rondo all in their primes? Greatest team of all time. ’Nuff said

No, what about the 2004 Laker team
Kobe, Shaq, Malone, and Payton beats all.
Wow
Just when I thought Lakriots was right you bring up 04. I almost cleared that season out of my memory because of all the injuries/failure that year… Had they been healthy AND in their primes??…. Holy shit that would be amazing

We need a legit chucker off the bench
and I highly doubt we can afford J.R. since he’ll be asking too high of a price. So I’d give Arenas a shot with a whole different atmosphere and with Kobe at the helm.
"If you’re afraid to fail, then you’re probably going to fail. You know what I mean? Fuck it." -- Kobe "Black Mamba" Bryant
Biggest offer on the market for Smith is the Knicks' $2.5 million room exception.
So it’s not THAT much more than the minimum. If we have a chance at signing him, I could see Kupchak cutting Kapono or similar.
To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself. -- Sun Tzu
Why would kupcek cut kapono before
The date you dont have to garauntee kaponos contract. If he cut him now he still has to pay him, so I doubt kupchek believs he can get him or that he’s worth it
by Ballinsohard on Feb 13, 2012 4:34 AM PST via mobile up reply actions
Kapono's contract is guaranteed I think.
Its Caracter, Ebanks, Glock and Morris are the only non-guaranteed contracts before last Friday with Caracter the only one who got cut.
by BoneCruncher24 on Feb 13, 2012 7:54 AM PST up reply actions
Really? Why would they garauntee kapono?
I see the hope that he would knock down shots but to garauntee him, im not sure I would of done that
by Ballinsohard on Feb 13, 2012 9:12 AM PST via mobile up reply actions
is he still going to be effective without the touches?
He should be 4th option at best. Imagine all the times we yell at kobe for taking bad shots and taking shots away from bynum/gasol…except it’ll be worse b/c it’ll be arenas taking the shot rather than kobe. If getting arenas means that fisher is playing less, then i’m fine with it. But arenas will probably just take time away from glock.
by no stance on Feb 12, 2012 8:12 PM PST reply actions 1 recs
Can he play the 2 off the bench?
At this point, put Fish’s ass on the bench, start blake & have glock be the backup 1. and then have arenas be the backup 2.
having fish and mwp on the floor at the same time is playing 3 vs 5, cuz those two dont do shit but miss shots, kill our offense, and play some occasional defense.

Agent 0 is a good fit
If he’s good, great. If he’s bad, the bench can be marketed as “Team 0” for all the zeroes they put up in the box score most games.

Steal or status quo
Seriously. If we sign him for veteran’s minimum, he could either be a steal or continue the sucky bench play we are now (and cut him if needed).
Nothing to lose at this point.

if it's gonna happen, it'll happen fast, right?
Nothing would be served by delaying it, the season’s not getting any shorter and he’d have to get worked into a system that’s already new by definition. I haven’t been an Arenas fan in recent years but if there’s ever a season to draw a wild card, this is it. I’d roll the dice.
Once again, it's much too late.
Yeah, if we're going to do something, might as well be now.
Give the FO and the coaching staff the maximum amount of time to evaluate him. Come March 1, the trade market opens up and more options become available.

CANT WAIT
the lakers really need SOME production from the PG position. Arenas will have to understand that his role is to penetrate and create shots for other when kobe lets him have the ball, and to stand in the corner and shoot 3s when kobe is doing the creating. Arenas is still going to be horrible on defense, but maybe we won’t literally have every PG in the league having CAREER nights against us

this is true
but at least you don’t get the impression that fisher is not playing up to his potential, or that he could be doing better.

He plays like a perfectly serviceable backup point. It’s hard to complain with his play.

I just think he doesn't play up to his potential
He misses passes to the post when Gasol/Bynum have position, he passes up open jump shots, his 3pt shooting is much too inconsistent, he consistently shrinks from big moments. Plus, he can’t penetrate. This is not even mentioning his defense, guys having carer nights on him is not cool. He may be OK as a 10-13 minutes per game back-up, but I don’t see him stepping up to claim a bigger role.

did injuries do in his career or did he just get paid then stop trying?
Another Devin Harris?
Yes, no, no.

I think injuries did him pretty rough
he always seemed more like a raw talent guy than a hard worker to me, so I guess losing his first step and elevation hurt him a lot. Unless the transfusion therapy worked miracles, he’s probably going to have be a lot more cerebral if he comes back, kind of like an andre miller type role maybe.

I just dont get how he could go from...
averaging 17.3 ppg on 40% shooting, with 3.3 rebs, 5.6 assists & 1.4 steals in 21 games with washington
to…
averaging 8.0 ppg on 34% shooting, with 2.4 rebs, 3.2 assists & 0.9 steals in 49 games with Orlando
all in the same year.
just doesnt make sense. He has to be able to help our bench somehow, I just dont really want Glock loosing minutes. I really wish MB would just glue Fisher to the bench (unless we need him with .4 seconds left on the clock) and woudl start Blake. Bring Glock and Arenas off the bench. We will be undersized but its better than what we got right now. Arenas is still 6-4 and should be able to hold his own against most 2’s.

I saw some of the games he was in when he was with Orlando...
I think it was the style over there that messed him up, not a good fit. He did not have the ball in his hands much to create and was just another spot up three point shooter with the Magic in those games and not very good at knocking them down consistently— (50 out of 182 for 27%).

well,
he would definitely be ball dominant with our bench unit. nobody besides glock can attempt to create their own shot from the perimeter.

they better give him the amnesty axe.

He's practically guaranteed to get amnestied in the offseason unless he goes on a ridiculous tear for the rest of the year.
That might end his career as well. Not sure even other contenders are willing to deal with him, especially since Boston, the most likely place to take a flyer on him, will probably break up their core this offseason.

I think some teams who arent hurting on offense, and need a defensive stopper,
may take him for the veteran minimum. he’s still useful on that end at least.

i dont get how Ebanks got glued to the bench
after being named the starter on opening night?
He can actually knock down shots and, like barnes, makes cuts in the offense. was his defense that bad?

Blake's not good either
Compared to Fish maybe (particularly on defense), but he misses wide open jump shots too and isn’t all that great a passer. He’s a serviceable backup, but he’s no starter. I actually kind of want G-Lock to start at the point. Don’t really have much to lose right? Fisher was given the chance as a young point guard out of the draft and he’s made a fantastic, memorable Lakers career out of it. Give Goudelock a shot.
Never happening though. Fisher will start every single game this season and every single playoff game unless they make some sort of legitimate acquisition. So, just hope that he somehow finds a Fountain of Youth and figures out how to hit shots again.

Well, if there were a way for us to get a 25-year-old, All-Star, ball-handling guard we’d love to do it … but that’s not likely in February. So you look at other alternatives, and see if it’s better than what you have. That’s all.
