The Credits: "Puss In Boots"
Starring: The Bobcats give the Lakers a confidence boost Tuesday night with an easy 106-73 win. The big story is how the bench unit put together a big fourth quarter after the starters laid an egg with a 13 point third quarter. They used a barrage of three pointers to put the game away. Andrew Goudelock, or "Mini-Mamba", led the bench for the Lakers:
The Lakers' reserves totaled a season-high 48 points. Troy Murphy had 12, as did Andrew Goudelock, who is averaging 11.5 points in four games since becoming Derek Fisher's backup.
"He's a scorer," Pau Gasol said. "He's not afraid to shoot. He attacks. That's what he knows to do best."
In other news, the Lakers have an interest in Kenyon Martin, who will be available in a couple weeks. Andrew Bynum says the Lakers need to win or else changes will be made to the team. Mike Brown talks about possible roster changes and/or acquisitions:
I asked if he had any thoughts on our games in the past week," Brown said of his conversations with Kupchak. "He told me what he thought about our games. He told me what's the status on anyone that's available out there.
Much more after the jump...

kenyon martin? yes?
i like his defensive intensity and smarts. his rebounding has gotten a lot better, and he’s still very athletic for his age.
i dont like his knees or his jumper

Me either.
But I don’t want him to go to the Clips – though you must admit, he’d fit right in…

Exactly
But at some point their team is going to get redundant…stockpiling players just because.
There is a reason Denver didnt want kenyon

meh at the Clippers
the team that the Lakers should worry about in terms of the playoffs is the Thunder. In terms of getting additional tallent hat team keeps getting stronger and stronger every season.

Oh, I agree that the Thunder are a force to be reckoned with, but ...
the Clippers are much improved, and scarily, a better team that the Lakers are right now. Being “gifted” two great PGs by the league will do that for you!;)
Plus I’ve been annoyed at how the Clippers are lately. OKC is more palatable: they rebuilt the right way (smart drafting), their players are really good, without being over-the-top about how good they are, and they don’t make a habit on flopping on every other play!! I can live with them improving, I can even root for them to win a championship (especially if it’s against Miami). The Clippers, otoh, are this season’s version of last year’s Heat.

OKC is easier to accept. Actually, I agree with everything you said, well the rooting for OKC. : )

I can't stand kmart
Seriously, he’s one of my least favorite players in the league
The Lakers have held a workout for Mo Peterson. Elijah Millsap FTW. :(
If the Lakers are looking for a big, hold a workout for Jeff Foote, Greg Smith, Chris Daniels, and Chris Daniels. I don’t think Kenyon Martin can stay healthy, even though I like him as a player.
I don't think Kenyon Martin is a back-up C
which is what we need if pau’s minutes will ever go down.

He is short for the position but can defend the PnR and......
be a weakside shot blocker. I wouldn’t have a problem with him as a backup five because he knows how to defend against bigger and taller players.

if he can defend the 5,
then id take him or wallace.
a backup will really help decrease the minutes pau and drew are on the floor.

Wasn't Chris Daniels in training camp with the Lakers?...
Maybe he wasn’t too good, or just can’t compete on the NBA level. And Greg Smith seems really, really raw and inexperienced. He should have satyed a few more years in college.
Millsap, otoh, is really intriguing. If the Lakers end up trading away Devin Ebanks or Caracter, I hope they call up Millsap. He has tons of potential.
by SmokeAndAshes on Feb 1, 2012 10:48 AM PST up reply actions
While Greg Smith is raw, he does bring............
size and athleticism to position behind Bynum and Pau. He can rebound and be somewhat of a shotblocker.
Chris Daniels is a good player. Yes, he was cut by the Lakers but he has been productive down in the D-League while showing some upside and skill.

I love the intro. It is full of so much gold.
lol at “little mamba” by the way, if Bynum is saying that changes will be I wonder if he knows that HE might be that change.
Kenyon Martin? that would be really good in my opinion. He is a tough SOB. I would not be against signing him. The only thing that I wonder about is if the Lakers are aware of the bigger need of outside shooting.

Mini-Mamba is the perfect nickname
Kenyon Martin? Yes. Sheed if he’s in shape? Yes. We all bitch n moan about the bench so why not IMPROVE it? lol Sheed,Martin>Murphy, McRambis. 2 good 1on1 and help defenders vs A non factor defensively and a good help defender. Sheed and Martin can actually contribute on the offensive end. Sheed can post and hit the 3. Martin has a nice.mid range jumper. Im sure we wont get both but if we did Pau and Bynum could rest and we’d still have options on the offensive end. Our d would suffer a lil but less than it would with Murphy and Mc on the floor together.

I'm not sure why you thinking about what's best for the TEAM is necessary to repeat here
you’ve stated plenty of times to just get young players because they can learn the job and bring athleticism and now you’re actively stating we should take on two injury-prone players. One with back problems and the other with knee problems over the younger parts that have capable contribution. Include Arenas and his inability to do anything of substance with limited minutes in Orlando and you and others have actively tried to recruit at least 3 players making us not only older, but more injury prone in a lockout-shortened season that is even more wear on the knees and body in general.
"These things happened. They were glorious and they changed the world... and then we fucked up the end game." - Charlie Wilson
"I think that all the silence is worse than all the violence." -Lupe Fiasco
What younger parts have produced?
Where are the reports about the Lakers working out young bigs? I havent seen any. If you can find some youngsters the Lakers are looking at bringing in comparable to KMart let us all know…
Even tho i doubt its gonna happen but should we get Dwight for Drew/Pau KMart starting over McRoberts is BETTER. I would rather have young guys but thas not happening, so give me an old guy who can contribute.
Me calling for Arenas was what 4-5 games ago..before glock started ballin…Day late and a dollar short in that argument, Even tho he would give us more than Kapono. Given a choice between Gil and Milsap id rather have Milsap but i guess you missed those posts.

No, I didn't
and it wasn’t meant exclusively for you, hence the fact that i added others. Kenyon Martin is a bad addition regardless of frontcourt. No. 1, he’s coming off of knee surgery season, again. No. 2, he was a starter in 48/48 games last year and was meh. McRoberts off the bench this year with inconsistent rotations, less practice, and everything that is involved with this season is approximating his production per 36 minutes and was actually even better than Martin last year. So, no it’s not better. Kenyon isn’t 29 and he’s not on good knees anymore. Add in attitude and just no.
It wasn’t 4-5 games ago. The was a recent report 2 games ago of Lakers working him out and you called it a good decision, that was after G-Lock’s first game of ballin. No day late or dollar short there, cuz you still want anyone over Kapono because he’s such garbage, right?

Yes. Glock over Kapono? Yes. Milsap over Kapono? Yes. Morris over Kapono? Yes. Injured Blake over Kapono? Yes. Metta Barnes Ebanks and Fisher over Kapono? Yes. Insert DLeague sg name here over Kapono. Yep.
I would change my opinion on Martin if the Lakers were thinking of calling DC up. Havent heard any news on it so im sticking with KMart.

I'm happy that Goudelock (Mini Mamba) is doing so well :)..
I love that he’s helping LAL win, and I love that I was right about him, lol. On draft night, I had my fingers crossed that the Lakers would take him, and it’s nice to be proven right, even if it’s only been 4 games :)
LA dominating the Western All-Star team....
starters are looking like:
Bynum (LAL)
Griffin (LAC)
Durant (OKC)
Bryant (LAL)
Paul (LAC)
not to mention Pau will probably get a spot on the roster too. Probably as the backup C.
