Video: Lakers Nation with Mike Brown and Dwight Howard at Monday's Practice

Gary A. Vasquez-US PRESSWIRE

A day removed from their first win, both Mike Brown and Dwight Howard talk to reporters during Monday's practice. Most important, Brown discusses why he felt the need to bring the starters back in to close the game out.

Even with a much needed win the Los Angeles Lakers left fans and analysts alike scratching their heads. With the bench struggling to maintain a 20-point lead, Mike Brown inserted the starters back into the game to close it out. Clearly Brown wanted this win, but at the risk of injuring an already wounded starting unit? With Kobe Bryant just a few days ago saying it felt like his foot was about to fall off? Come on. Here's Brown's explanation on why he did it.

And it's not just Kobe Bryant. Dwight Howard discussed his health Monday and admitted he's still "a couple steps behind" from 100%. As soon as he heard the notion that Mike Brown said he looked "close to 100%" he vehemently shook his head, dismissing it entirely. Anybody watching can see Dwight is still trying to get into game shape, but it's getting closer. Game by game. Little by little.
