Around SBN: Shaq As Orlando Magic General Manager? Don't Bet On It

The Credits: "Bandits"

Going into last night's game, the Lakers were a mighty 1-7 away from the cozy confines of Staples Center. The LakeShow somehow managed to give up 24 (24!!!!) ORebs which led to 32 (32!!!!) 2nd-chance points for the Timberwolves. How the Lakers managed to leave the Target Center with a 106-101 victory and secure their 2nd road win of the season, is a mystery. In a game that feels very much like a loss, the Lakers somehow managed to pull through, and snatched the Win right out of the Wolves' paws.

Ron Arte- err, Metta World Peace was given the starting nod and thanked Mike Brown by contributing nothing except a couple of assists and rebounds. Asked about this thoughts regarding the starting posish, MWP said:

"I really don't have a real comment on it but, I mean, it's kind of normal, it's not really... the main thing is that we won it. I think that was the main thing, just that consistency, whatever it's going to be. Just consistent so we can move forward and we can start winning games."

Kobe continued his throwback season with a line of 35pts and 14rebs, including 5-9 from long-range. Asked about the importance of the road win, he replied:

"I have no idea, I would assume so. We needed to get a win on the road."

A win is a win, and at this point in the Lakers' season, I think we'll all take it. No matter how ugly it may be.

What to comment on?

That dunk by LBJ? Nah, I can’t give him props.

How about JR Smith’s crazy family/girlfriend? Nah, too easy.

I know! Hey Kobe grats on passing Kareem as the Laker’s all time FG leader!

I blame my Mexican/Guatemalan heritage for not allowing to grow a full beard. Whenever I try, all that comes out are these sporadic patches of fuzz sparsely strewn about my grill.

So,

Do we have anything to offer Toronto for Calderon?

We could prob swap Blake, but the salaries don’t add up?

Anybody know how TPE’s work? If we traded them Blake & someone like Morris or a pick for Calderon, could they just receive a 5.3 million (difference between Blake+Morris & Calderons contract) trade exception?

Im sure the lakers would like to unload some salary, but i doubt toronto wants to take MWP, Luke or Barnes.

Turnover Differfential and Point Differential

Lakers are second worst in the league in turnover differnetial at 2.6 per game. If you figure teams score about 1 point per possession, and turnover possessions yield points at a higher rate, say 1.2, this costs the Lakers 3.1 points per game. Since their point differential is 1.5 a game, a breakeven TO differential could move their point differential to 4.6. This would rank them 8th in the league, up from 14th. One might think their record would improve as well.

by celticandlakerfanreally on Jan 30, 2012 10:28 AM PST reply actions

Its probably better for the team to play defense the way they are currently doing it.

Going for steals will probably put them in a scramble as they try to recover, something that they do not want because they are too slow sometimes to recover. Steals will come when the Lakers get some younger and better players

Really?

But, from the L2DK highlights:

- Kobe-Bynum at 0:34 (alley-oop)
- Kobe-Bynum at 1:17 (alley-oop)
- Kobe-Barnes at 1:36 (pass to cutting Barnes, no dribble)
- Kobe-Fisher at 1:40 (Fisher catch and shoot three, no dribble)
- Kobe-Barnes at 2:11 (Barnes cutting for the dunk, arguably an assist, any superstar point guard would’ve had it)
- Kobe-Goudelock 2:27 (Goudelock catch and shoot three, no dribble)

No way the guy only had two assists.

Boozer may have really hit the old man wall...

he did not post up much or try to get to the rim off the midrange jumper and looked like he lost a step. Last year he did do those things well and he is still the best offensive post player for the Bulls.

Maybe he has some lingering injuries and he will get get better as the season goes on but he looked old yesterday.

We could get Calderon in a multi-team trade assuming we can get Dwight

In short, we would get Dwight, Scola, Calderon, and Turk in this trade, which would be our entire starting line-up plus Kobe. This would put us instantly back in contention, assuming Houston is still open to the Gasol trade (which we aren’t sure about)

ESPN Trade Machine Possibility to transform the Lakers
The trade machine said “failed,” but it would work financially if we use our tpe on Scola (ESPN trade machine doesn’t account for the tpe we already have, if you don’t believe me, try to add a 5 mil player to the Lakers, and it would say failed)
