The Credits: "Invasion of the Body Snatchers"

In the Lakers' 96-98 loss to the Pacers last night, the only positive takeaway is that we found our point guard in Pau Gasol. Wait, what?

The Lakers once again lacked support from anyone not named Kobe Bryant, failed to make their freebies, and were out-rebounded by a team anchored by a guy with a broken nose. Rather than ramble on about played out story-lines, here are Mike Brown and Andrew Bynum talking postgame, and the best pass that you'll likely forget. It's only Monday, why am I so tired?

K, we'll trade him for Deron, and try to get Dwight in a sign-and-trade in the off-season...

I think trading Bynum would get us Deron

But obviously it’s an absolutely HUGE risk, and the only way we do it is if we know we can get Dwight… Which I don’t see any way we could know that…

I think the nets would go for that IF they couldn't get Dwight

Then we’d hafta find a Serviceable Center. Flip Pau to the bulls for Noah and Taj Gibson maybe

I was thinking sign-and-trade Pau for Dwight with another team other than ORL in the off-season

No way we’d get Noah for Pau, the Bulls refused to trade him for Dwight – not sure why they love him THAT much but… Also don’t know how the new CBA affects sign-and-trades exactly…

Hadn't thought of that.

But basketball-wise that’s the place for Dwight, they have the pieces to get him, and it’d definitely be a team able to crush the heat…

If it is it’s worse than players like Wade/Bosh/James scheming to play together… At least they are actually playing in the league.

Man, you love some Andrew Bynum

When he can do the normal stuff right he can have more of the ‘pie’

He disappears. Plain and simple. He was beasted by Dwight. He is not what you are trying to say he is.

Give him more of the pie? That will equal more losses.

He could stop bitching and actually contribute like he’s part of some big three… but no, he’s content playing the way he is- normal to slightly above average.

I would agree had he not stayed injured up until this point. Consistency can only b gained thru continued game action. Not by playing 30 games then missing the rest n vice versa. Sorry, I was kinda unclear with my post lol

If Drew doesn’t “break out” in the next year or so, I’m not convinced he ever will. He’s been in the league a long time, even if he is young, and he’s had a lot of time to develop. I just don’t want to rely on the 30~ year old version of Bynum to suddenly have that mindset. I’d rather deal him while people still believe in that potential.

it has been poo-ish because of Bynum getting the bigger piece of the cake

and Pau being relegated to the high post to facilitate and shoot 19footers. Im not saying he’s not effective at the high post but we need him down low; with his savvy finesse skills scoring wouldn’t be an issue but then again his will and desire to score is somewhat lacking.

Personally, I take this as an issue with Pau.

Pau can receive the ball in the high post and work his way towards the rim when his defender closes out, and take that elbow jumper if not. Starting in the high post doesn’t necessarily mean staying there, and Pau in the high post is some of the most “spacing” we have haha

yup, this too

and some teams will want to trade for Luke, just because they need expiring contracts

yes.

by next year, luke will be a nice piece to have at the trade deadline just because of his expiring 6 mill.

teams looking to cut payroll to get under the cap will really like his expiring contract.

well, given that Drew should be a better defensive presence

I can’t agree. both have had disappointing games, but if I had to choose based on regular production, I’d say Pau has been better because of his more consistent defense

With the way things are going in the standings....

It seems more and more likely that The Magic have the best shot at resigning Dwight. The Nets just suck, we are struggling with the new system/players & Dallas doesn’t have any pieces.

I think the best thing for us, if we cant get Dwight with Bynum, is to hope the Magic can get Dwight to sign an extension. Then, we can go after D-Will, since he will want out of NJ. Id be happy with a D-Will/Kobe/Bynum big 3.

Dwight can just play out his contract and go to Dallas

but yes, D-Will/Kobe/Bynum and actual decent role players sound great

or we can experiment in the D-League

Someone like Luke Babbitt or Mychel Thompson can do the work. Both are shooting 45+% from 3
