If you look closely, LeBron traveled. Also, Kobe dunked. But mostly a Miami TO.

All eyes will be on South Beach, as our Los Angeles Lakers visit the Miami Heat in the clubs' first meeting of the season. The Heat come into this game on a roll, after drubbing the Spurs in the 2nd Half on Tuesday night. The Lakers are also coming off a win, courtesy of a clutch three by Derek Fisher. Perhaps D-Fish should present his resume to LBJ. Might be kinda tough for D-Fish to squeeze that into the schedule though, what with checking up on retirement homes and all.

Dwyane Wade looks to be out for tonight's game, which is good news for us. Take some time to rest D-Wade, don't rush things. Then again, perhaps it's best for all of us if you do play. We'll have much more about Lakers-Heat in our Game Preview rolling out later today.

On a different note, some rumors about D-Will, Kareem lands something better than a statue, and Eddy Curry might debut tonight. Wait, what?!

"South Beach"

I am a second generation Lakers fan, born and raised in Miami, over 40 years ago, with relatives in California…let me explain something to you:

The Miami Heat plays in Downtown Miami NOT South Beach !!!

by cemiami on Jan 19, 2012 8:35 AM PST reply actions

Uh no.

LeBron took his talents to South Beach.

by shoang1993 on Jan 19, 2012 8:44 AM PST up reply actions

Uhhh...did you watch the decision

If so…I guess Lebron really thinks South Beach encompasses Miami (makes sense because he’s a party boy).

Meh, every time they show the Lakers on ABC, they have a shot of the Santa Monica Pier. We play nowhere near there either.

I was just thinking this about Barnes. The crazy thing is that Artest was THAT guy

in 2010. He didn’t wait for Kobe to do something. See game 7 of the Finals. I guess you have to be crazy to play with Kobe. Which reminds me of something else and I wanted to know if anyone has noticed. Kobe yells at every Laker player except two or 3 players. Fisher, Artest and Barnes.

I think that he respects those three but at the same time, Barnes, I think is more out of fear. I think if he tries to scold Barnes Kobe will get chin-checked for sure. I have never seen him say a peep to Barnes when he makes a mistake.

Yes but KObe never hesitates to make angry gestures at anyone

he does it to everyone. When Barnes makes a mistake, Kobe just turns around and doesn’t do or say shit. But I agree, Barnes hustles too much and he does more good than bad.

Kobe is angered by laziness most of all as well as a ack of hustle/passion

Barnes is a key hustle player, so even if he is making a mistake, he tried his hardest for that play.

Thats basketball..Kobe isn't afraid of competing with anyone. Thats not what I'm talking about.

but I’m talking in terms of yelling and screaming at him as a team mate. he won’t do it. I’m telling, Ive seen him do it to damn near every player. But watch the next time Barnes makes a mistake and you tell me if Kobe reacts in any way to him.

its definitely not fear lol

Think about those 3 guys, and think about what they do next to Kobe that the guys he yells at don’t. They’re aggressive off the ball and work with him instead of leaving him on am island. There isn’t a single other Lake who is consistently active when Kobe has the ball. If you’re Kobe, of course you yell at people like Pau. As much as we all love Pau there’s tons of times where he just runs to the weak side and stands there. And while he’s the best example, everybody else does it too

Agreed, completely,

it’s like that denver Playoff series in 09, when Kobe became a facilitator if im not mistaken game 3 or 4, Kobe was the primary ball handler, he’d get the double even tripple team, with slashers, and guys aware he’d pass the ball off and get guys some great opportunities, and it showed as the Lakers completely dismantled the Nuggets

Stern robbed us and the world

With Paul around to do all the ball-handling, Bryant would’ve given up the perimeter even earlier – whether his wrist was right or wrong – and focused on his attack spots closer to the rim. We would’ve seen one of the rare one-two punches in NBA history comprised of a point guard and shooting guard, plus Andrew Bynum blossoming in the middle.

In one of the articles from TrueHoop on

the type of defensive play over the last ten years…

“If you go back to — not to disparage them — but Pat Riley’s Knicks. Their defense was predicated on giving that quick shot with the hand,” says Jackson. “You remember a player like Derek Harper. He’d steel arm you, you know? As you started your move toward the basket, he’d give you that little jolt, to allow him to recover and get between the offensive player and the basket.”

The game, Jackson says, had “grinded to a halt” and referees were instructed to free it up by calling things by the book that had been permitted. That, in turn, forced new defensive strategies which involve all kinds of switching and movement. The idea was to have 10 players moving, and it worked.

“There is no question,” says player trainer and ESPN analyst David Thorpe, who watched the changes unfold. “Being an NBA player is far more work now. Tom Thibodeau is the guy who figured out how to take advantage of the new rules. And watch his teams. The minutes now are so much more intense. There is movement all the time, unless you’re guarding isolation, which is rare. And it’s movement towards action. There’s more contact. There’s more mental fatigue. There’s more to do. Ask coaches who were in the league before and after, like Rick Adelman or Pat Riley. They’ll tell you. There’s just so much more to defense these days.”

the quote is true.

The game evolves a ton. The pace difference and efficiency difference between the 80s and 90s is staggering. The defenses figured out what the offenses were doing and adjusted, by constantly hand checking. When they took that away defenses adjusted again, with zone defenses and tons of switching and a lot more help defense. Focusing on one and forgetting the other is biased, which is what all the “mj would average 50” people are.

I love that SOB but only difference is that I don’t give a fuck about talking shit about him when he deserves it. ON 60 mins MJ was asked if he thought he was perfect and he said he wasn’t a perfect human being but that he was a perfect basketball player because even when he made mistakes he corrected them. I loved that response.

Kobe isn’t a perfect human being. But he is a perfect basketball player in every which way. Especially because he wants to perfect his game and he has constantly searched for that perfection.

@rehforlife: how active do u see lakers being around trade deadline?
I think they’re very active. DH-12 situation is still unresolved,..they have the LO trade exception, and they have needs to address.

RT @whatucantsay: What do you think the percentage chances are that the Lakers land DH-12?

The problem is, the way I analyze the situation is apparently different than the way the Magic do. From what I hear of the Magic’s thinking, chances are low.

RT @eLonePB: can you explain what you mean by "Magic’s thinking"?

Not so high on Bynum and not so high on sending another franchise C to LA.
