Kobe to play in London 2012 Olympics

Love the patriotism, but would much rather have Kobe rest once the season is over. No doubt that all the great players on the 2012 Olympic roster would benefit from having being able to play with Kobe, and not to mention Howard will be on the roster, so maybe Kobe can bring Howard back to L.A. if there is no trade made before then. I think it's safe to say though that a lot of you on here agree with me, and would much rather have Kobe get as much rest as he can after this wild season.....

olympics arn't as grueling as the nba though

and kobe just had a long summer off. if he doesn’t go to 2012, he’ll be 37 in 2016…

As much as I love the Lakers

I’ll sacrifice some Kobe time with them for the chance to see him get to play on Team USA again. 2008 was freaking awesome.

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.

totally agree with this.

id hate to have an injury pop up during the olympics, but i love that kobe (despite many calling him old in basketball years) wants to play for the US and will do anything to accomplish the ultimate goal of world champion. i can see him being much more of a coach on the floor & a facilitator with all the scoring options around him. plus, its not like he will be playing 30+ minutes a night.

"What we want to remember—what we will remember—is the indelible vision of Kobe, his arms outstretched, delirious with joy and disbelief, running after and grabbing hold of Lamar Odom’s floating downcourt pass, while all the purple and gold streamers in the world are raining down on the hardwood." - Brian Tung

With guys like Lebron, Durant, Dwight, and CP3....

Kobe won’t have to do much work. Score some points, make a few plays, maybe, but most of the grunt work will be handled by the other more athletic guys. Olympics shouldn’t be much of a problem for Kobe’s health.

I would love to see him play for the olympics.

Unless of course his wrist will need surgery.

Even if we don't win another title.

I would love to see Kobe in the Olympics. It is such a rare and valuable experience, and to be a multiple gold medalist is something special.

Besides, he won’t be the focal point of the team like he was in 2008.

You realize we get no Gold if there's no mamba?

It would be tougher to win the gold without Kobe, but I think that roster can get it done without him….

Pretty sure he's referring to the previous olympic team that only got bronze, without Kobe.

I think he’s talking about this years team

by dannblala on Jan 18, 2012 1:12 PM PST reply actions

He's saying this team won't win gold if Kobe doesn't play, because the last time Kobe didn't play, the Olympic team failed to win it.

Nonsense.

He’s saying that if Kobe doesn’t play, it doesn’t matter because Adam Morrison is the real key to Olympic gold. At least that’s what I got from it.

yep, I agree
and when MJ said that Kobe is the only player that deserves to be compared to him,
he really meant Morrison
we all know that
