How Magic Johnson Became A Laker

On Wednesday I mentioned how a weird trade two years earlier led to the Lakers' selection of James Worthy in the 1982 draft. Now the new site NBATradetracker.net has a video breakdown of how various little trades, twists and turns led to the Lakers' pick of Magic Johnson in 1979. It's just awesome and if you don't watch it right this second, I don't know if we can hang anymore.

I liked the ending of it

There was also a rumor that Magic didn’t want to play in Chicago and wanted a trade. I also wonder if they did draft Magic would they get Jordan.

"Chris was simply the best I have ever seen. He would stay in the gym for hours, launching threes from everywhere inside halfcourt, in repetitions that spoke more of obsession than dedication. Chris practiced with fear, with a sort of cold sweated abandon, like he had been let out of hell to play ball one last time." -MATTHEW PIERCE

I never think that there's something I can't do, whether it's beating my opponent one on one or practicing another hour because something about my game is just not right. - Magic

This is awesome, but I can't but ask the following.....

As basketball fans, would it be better to claim that your team has had the best player ever (MJ) and six titles OR be proud of the winning tradition that the Lakers have had? Personally, I would chose the Lakers.

"Hate me or love me. Its one or the other; always has been. Hate my game, my swagger. Hate my fadeaway, my hunger. Hate that I'm a veteran. A champion. Hate that. Hate it with all your heart. And hate that I'm loved for the exact same reasons." - Kobe Jelly Bean Bryant

It is awesome to me how the Lakers have made dynasties from

drafting and getting players that everyone else thought impossible.

Great little history lesson.

It’s pretty crazy how all those trades by the Jazz led to Kirilenko, and likewise for the Lakers to Johnson.
