LA Times: Byron Scott, Kurt Rambis Out Of The Running
From an update on the Lakers' coaching search posted tonight:
The Lakers are adamantly opposed to offering other teams compensation via draft picks or cash to lure their coaches away, effectively ending any chance of hiring Portland's Nate McMillan, Cleveland's Byron Scott or Minnesota's Kurt Rambis, The Times has learned.
Phew. I would've thought that goes without saying, but good to have it confirmed. Sending draft picks, say, to San Antonio to hire away Pop is one thing, but can you imagine compensating Minnesota for Kurt Rambis? SS&R would explode, literally. You'd log on and there'd be flames and shrapnel spewing from your iPad screen.

Probably more.

Really?
He’s like barely one notch lower than Phil in my book, and he’s probably the best Xs and Os technician in the league. Hell, Phil only really wins out because I think he’s a better motivator and manager, and even then, it’s by a hair’s breadth.

Ugh, really dislike him
Runs a super slow-paced, one-dimensional isolation offense and was never much of a defensive coach.

Former Cleveland coach Mike Brown is considered the front-runner for the Golden State coaching job, though the Lakers are mildly interested in him too.
Emphasis added. Let’s hope that “mild interest” was the result of some joke made during a drunken binge or whatnot.

The rapture...
If I had read this morning that either Byron Scott or Kurt Rambis were coming to coach the Lakers, then I would have been sure that the end-of-the-world rapture had actually begun. Thankfully, life goes on.
