All-Purpose Trade Scenarios FanPost

With the Lakers being kicked out of the playoffs with the steeliest-toed boots imaginable, everyone has decided they know what the team needs to do in terms of trades, and that's perfectly fine. However, it means we are now going to get 25 fanposts a day with new trade ideas, which will fill up our sidebar. While we love having people engaged and interested on the site, the redundancy will be a bit overwhelming, so consider this your new all-purpose trade scenario fanpost.

If you have ideas for trades, please post them here. All other posts regarding trades will be removed.

Carry on!

and we ought to be able to trade other teams’ players. Send Dirk to Minnesota, then James and Wade to Olympiakos.

The Lakers should just waive Luke Walton.

There is no sense in keeping him on the roster when he’s glued to bench because he is virtually ineffective. He’s deadweight.

I mean Barnes + Steve Blake + Luke Walton for CP3 is just not going to happen.

We should focus on Ron Artest as being the go to guy. Bump up Shannon into the starting 2 position. Keep Fish where he is and leave Blake as a back up. Let’s start Caracter and Ebanks. Now all we have to do is get a bench. Bring back Sasha and Farmar and Ammo. And Luke can coach the team but suit up when we really need him. Coach/Player. I don’t think we’d lose a game

There is no reason why Pau cant post Dirk/Chandler up and work em in the post. He routinely got pushed out of good post position by Dirk and Chandler. seriously? He let those 2 players bully him? He’s a finesse player tho. So is Tim Duncan but i havent seen him get bullied to the level players do Pau. The ride is over trade him and another cpl pieces and bring Howard to L.A. What Howard/Paul to the Lakers Looks Like.

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=3bb5app

Why for the Magic? This trade almost makes sense even if Howard doesn’t want out. Bass goes to New Orleans since we have Gasol at the Forward. We get rid of the immovable object that is Gil’s contract by packaging him with Howard and get back Bynum and Gasol. The trade generally breaks down as Gasol, Bynum and Arenas Cap relief in exchange for Howard. This to me is fair value for Howard. And the Magic would have a team that would go at least as far as the one this year did- with the added benefit of cap room once these contracts go if not extended.

Why for the Hornets? The Hornets would still have a team that sells since it has Kobe Bryant in the starting lineup. They also get Blake to come in as their starting or back up pg to soften losing Paul. Blake, Bryant, Ariza, Bass, Random Defensive Center is not built to win Championships. But it is a team built to happily allow Bryant 40 shots a night while defending well. Probably around an 8th seed, where the hornets are now, but selling way more tickets.

Why for the Lakers? For starters, Kobe’s Contract is 24 million a year. Kobe has declined a ton, despite the blathering of millions including himself that say he hasn’t. At his price, I don’t see how the lakers free the cap room to build a contender. He’s simply not worth that amount of money to a team that is trying to build for a Championship. It works out as sending away the cost of Kobe Bryant, for the cost of Arenas and Okafor. This seems like a horrible Idea, but it is the absorption of these 2 contracts that allow the lakers to put Chris Paul and Dwight Howard on the same team. And they’ll be favorites the second they are, make no mistake about it.

Addtionally, their lineup would like this:

Chris Paul/Arenas

Jarret Jack/Shannon Brown

Artest/Walton/Barnes

Odom/Okafor

Howard/Okafor/Odom

I don’t consider myself an expert, but I think most people would agree that team is nearly the best defensive and offensive team in the league at the same time. Everyone in the league would once again be re-tooling to deal with the lakers, who once again are bigger than everyone else, with the best guard in the league on the wings. Time to enjoy some more rings.

No way the Lakers trade Kobe

He has a no trade clause AND they don’t want to trade him. He’s a Laker for life.

Plus you have Walton playing ahead of Barnes? That’s even less likely to happen than a Kobe trade.

LoL

Lakers got rid of Shaq at a time Shaq had done more for them than Kobe.

And Old Kobe is worth no more to the lakers than an Old Shaq. As a team they should always be trying to replace their old talent with younger better talent. Aka, Shaq out, Gasol and Bynum in.

Or in this case, Kobe out, Paul and Howard in.

I know Kobe has a no trace clause, and this is contingent on him not using it. But he would get to be for New Orleans what Derrick Rose is for the bulls- a high volume go to scorer on a strong defensive and rebounding team. 40 shots a night would be the norm, and the record books would feel it hard if a player of his talent became a Derrick Rose type option for New Orleans- As in he’d bust it wide open. I think there is incentive enough there for Kobe that his pride doesn’t let him kill the trade. Could be wrong but there is no way to match the line-up that trade creates while keeping Kobe.

and about Walton ahead of Barnes- He’s a smart player and considering who else he’d be on the floor with, that might be all you need. He’s a guy that cna make the right decision, and hopefully keep turnovers and on court drama to a mininum.

Obviously barnes is more athletic, and a better defensive player- but I don’t think he’s the better back up than Luke unless the other team has an Elite 3 he needs to guard.

If we clean shop as you propose

That makes us the New York Knicks, losing all identity and core in order to bring in two stars. I don’t want to be them. Even if we won, there would be no lakers to identify with, they’d feel like mercenaries hired for success. As a laker fan I identify with kobe as if he is the franchise until he retires, you can’t just swap out one star for another, it doesn’t work like that.

Howard > Stoudemire
Paul > Melo

If you clean shop and end up with the best offensive and defensive team in the league, shouldn’t you clean shop?

You’re not swapping out Kobe for another star. Essentially you’re swapping out Kobe for a New Lakers that will win the west every year without having to worry about injury prone guards or big men to carry the Lakers to Finals. You get 2 young stars in their prime(in Howard’s Case entering it) on a team that would probably hold the opposing team to 50.

I get the love for Kobe, I really do, 5 rings is alot to be thankful for. But remember Kobe was on the bench when Shaq got the first 2. And what matters more than the rings he’s given, is getting even more rings.

by D to the P on May 11, 2011 12:40 AM PDT up reply actions

Kobe wasn't on the bench at all.

If anything, Shaq was. Shaq fouled out against the Pacers in the finals and a few other key playoff games. Kobe was on the bench in ’96-97 and ’97-98, the first LA championship was ’99-00, by that time, Kobe was playing 38.2 minutes a game and averaging 22 points (Then 28.5 and 25.2 for the next two years).

Those kind of numbers hardly warrant “given rings”.

In all honesty, this isn’t even a significantly possible deal. Kobe would never want to be stuck on a middling 8th seed this far into his career, and trading him is something Jerry Buss would never even remotely consider, he’s the reason any big name would come to LA. CP3 and D12 could easily find another team elsewhere to team up, Kobe would be essential in convincing either one to come to LA.

"What the fuck is wrong with you? Sit down!" -Phil Jackson (on the rest of the NBA)

by El Capitan(Presidente) on May 11, 2011 12:49 AM PDT up reply actions

The reason big names come to La is because of the size of the Market, not Kobe Bryant. otherwise Shaq wouldn’t have signed.

I put the same question to you: if trading Kobe give you a remarkably better team, shouldn’t you do it?

Do you really think sentimental stuff has that much sway over a business, over winning more rings? Cuz I don’t, and I’d be willing to bet lakers management wouldn’t either.

by D to the P on May 11, 2011 12:58 AM PDT up reply actions

Sure, but you're hinging the entire trade on Bryant being willing.

Essentially, you’re asking Kobe to go to a team that’ll become a rebuilding project. Not happening.

Lakers- Lose: Kobe Bryant, Derrick Fisher, Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum, Derek Character, Steve Blake

Kobe has zero reasons to agree to this trade

Not only is he going to New Orleans, he’s going to be playing with a shittier team than the one Paul had to play with. And with all due respect to Kobe, he doesn’t elevate the game of everyone around him like Paul does. This scenario is really detached from reality.

The only thing possible would be to bring in another team and 4 ways involving superstars generally do not occur.

That said, I still think there is some chance it may happen, regardless of how slight. Kobe gets angry all the time and requests trades, maybe this summer they call his bluff and trade him.

The idea by itself isnt all that far fetched at all. At this point in his career he’s not worth the 20-30 million he makes. I appreciate what he’s done but the Laker organization is more important to me than any single player. If trading him would allow the Lakers to set themselves up for future success and titles then im all for it. No way Kobe agrees to that for so many reasons.

The biggest being that the Hornets will never compete for a title in the remaining span of Kobe’s career. They have neither the financial means or personnel in place to do it. Kobe won’t go to a rebuilding project. The whole premise doesn’t fit Kobe at all. You’re dangling him out there under the assumption he will be fine as a draw for potential buyers as long as he gets to pad career numbers. Wrong.

Your examples:

And Old Kobe is worth no more to the lakers than an Old Shaq. As a team they should always be trying to replace their old talent with younger better talent. Aka, Shaq out, Gasol and Bynum in.

are suggesting that these guys are or were at the door of retirement. This definition of old is about three seasons too early and comparing Kobe now to Shaq when he left the Lakers is apples and oranges. Overweight, sour oranges at that.

Not forgetting, I know its a long shot. But If Chris Paul and Howard end up on the lakers, thats what the trade will be.

The why for Kobe is simple, would he want a Lakers franchise that doesn’t want him? Does having an even bigger impact in the record books by throwing up 40 shots a night for a franchise that wouldn’t mind it appeal to him?

I can’t say with certainty, neither can you. This is a shoot the moon trade, not saying its likely just fun to think about.

I think it's possible for the Lakers to get CP3

since the NBA basically own the Hornets. Trading CP3 to the Lakers would mean a possibility for the Lakers to reach the finals, and if that happens then the NBA is going to be happy. If the Lakers reaches the finals then that would mean one thing, higher ratings for the NBA. It’s a win-win situation for everyone involved, except the Hornets and it’s fans lol. Release the Hawks!

Bynum for Jeff Teague, Zaza Pachulia and Marvin Williams.

The Hawks would have to take that simply because they got this far into the postseason (second round) without Teague. Adding Bynum would push Horford into his natural power forward position and the team would have a decent shot at breaking the league record for team blocks with Josh Smith thrown in.

The Lakers would get the young, speedy, talented point guard they haven’t had for 20 years (seriously, are any of you watching what he’s doing to the MVP stud in, albeit, flashes of this series) and an amusing bench center for Gasol who tends to spark the Hawks bench in the playoffs.

Disclaimer: I had to throw in Marvin Williams out of salary cap necessity. Cut him, trade him back to ATL, I don’t care. The Hawks are pretty tired of him at this point and he forever remains their draft bust. Think of it as our Kwame-like homecoming.

Another disclaimer: To all you crazy, spoiled people going for CP3 — I like our roster fine as is and will defend that bench more than most fans. That’s why I make the simple change and only subtract one. Besides, we’re already getting a new coach. To get CP3, we’d have to blow up our roster and I just can’t. There are so, so many young, talented PGs out there. And they’re cheap! Why strive for only the $uper$tars who leave us maxed out and identity-less? Let’s get Teague!

The reason Bynum leaving is a distant possibility is that even Lakers haters have to admit the team is pretty damn loyal (look at Derek Fisher, for god’s sake…how many quality franchises would have permitted his demise in the starting rotation?) and that would be royally screwing over Bynum. They over-groomed him into his position and he’s had to eat humble pie on the bench under Phil’s watch for years in the closing minutes.

To trade him now would be like a child happily destroying the giant Lego tower they’ve been building for months in their room. Kupchak is more the quiet, methodical kid. Bynum would have been awkwardly rushed into his prominence by every other team in the league and would have even worse discipline than he has now. Committing the same stupid fouls Howard does. (Talking about the consistent game fouls not those five-game suspenders he only occasionally throws out like CA mentioned.) Perhaps he’d be a better center at this point in his career on another team but not a potential legend he could become for the Lakers.

With all that written, I’d take this trade in a heartbeat.

Horford and Smith

Horford and Teague would be really tremendous but I think this thread tends to overrate Bynum’s trade value. He’s been so injury prone throughout his career that you would be insane to think we could do a Bynum for CP3 trade straight-up. No way is New Orleans that stupid.

Anyway, I just think my proposal is more realistic to Bynum’s trade value. If you think it undervalues Bynum, hell, throw in some first round picks from ATL, I don’t care. We need speed and if we can get cheap speed, let’s go for it this offseason.

Josh Smith: Really? I mean when he’s on, he’s on. But he’s definitely a flaky player with maturity issues. He would give us a lot of headaches.

over 300 blocked shot for his career, i wouldnt care, if he didnt score at all for the lakers, i bet you anything, say the lakers did grab josh, dirk wouldnt be getting those shots off! but like you said, when josh is on? he’s a freakin animal in the paint, blocking shots, and rebounding/starting the fast break so he can break the rim on the other end. but he kind of aloof at times. dont know how he would handle the nightlife in L.A. but i wouldnt mind seeing him in the purple and gold.

That’s an awful lot of value. Sure, not Paul value, as I doubt NO would take Kobe for Paul straight-up, but much, much more than that crap package above. There’s no reason to trade Bynum if all we’re getting is scraps like the proposal above; the Lakers easily could get a borderline All-Star wing like Granger or Iggy along with some pieces and picks if they wanted to simply dump Drew.

Bynum/Odom for Howard/Anderson

Why Orlando will do it.
Instead of letting Dwight walk, they get value in return in a similar top-tier Big Man.
Also, they add versatility to their offense with Odom. This diversifies what used to be a Dwight+3pt shooting offense.

Why LA will do it.
Dwight vs. Bynum? I think this part is a no brainer.
Anderson spread the floor, is a good outside shooter, and provides a solid backup option for Gasol.

Why it won’t happen.
Odom is getting older, and Orlando will take on salary.
LA also loses a clubhouse leader at the same time it loses Phil Jackson.

I honestly think we should be going after CP3 or DWILL

Simply because we can all pretty much agree that, when healthy, Bynum is one of the best centers in the league. So what we are essentially trading for is health. While that is valuable, I think we can improve this team better if we get a good PG.

It also depends on the coach we end up having. If we have Shaw and keep the triangle then we don’t necessarily need an all-star PG. If we make Shaw our head coach I actually wouldn’t mind leaving the core the way it is, and adding some shooters.

A lot depends on the next coach. That is the only clear, glaring hole we have right now, and as such should be the first order of business. Besides, the labor dispute might not allow for player moves.

That being said, TRADE FOR RYAN ANDERSON!!!!!!!! GO BEARS!!!!!!!! GO LAKERS!!!!!!!!

Honestly, regardless of what we do, unless Mitch does something nuts, next season should be quite interesting and something to watch. Whether it is a new look team, or the same team.

Well the Lakers are always something to watch, but even more now LOL

Not sure the clubhouse leader thing is all that important

Yea, LO is important in that role, but they’ll still have Fisher who may be the best clubhouse leader in the entire league, and also Kobe Bryant. I wouldn’t worry too much about clubhouse leadership with those two guys as captains of this team.

But Orlando isn’t going to want to take on Odom’s salary at his age- that is definitely true.

Develop Trey Johnson
Trade Ron Artest for Danilo Gallinari and Chris Andersen
Play Matt Barnes more minutes
Sign Shawne Williams, a good outside shooter
Play Devin Ebanks
Trade Blake for Ronny Turiaf
Hire Rick Adelman as the coach
Trade Andrew Bynum for Dwight Howard
Start Odom at Power Forward
Trade Gasol for Chris Paul
and we get:
Center – Dwight Howard, Chris Andersen
Power Forward – Lamar, Turiaf, Caracter
Small Forward – Barnes, Ebanks, Williams, Walton
Shooting Guard – Kobe, Gallinari, TJ
Point Guard – Chris Paul, Derek Fisher

Yes I know this will never happen, lol

Wouldn't call Iggy ball dominant

It’s more that he’s misplaced as a primary option in Philly when he should be an ideal third option on a good team. Pretty much an excellent complementary player in all phases and an elite defender.

Mitch seemed pretty firm on standing pat

I don’t expect any major moves.

The bench will get a makeover but it will probably be cosmetic. Unless Brown opts out, there may not be any change at all in rotation players, since Barnes is probably going to pick up his option.

From there, we know Luke is here to stay. Joe Smith is probably gone. I hear Theo Ratliff wants to come back and really he doesn’t cost the Lakers anything to keep on. Ebanks will be back. Lakers have a team option on Caracter that they are probably going to exercise. There is conflicting information on the salary sites but apparently the Lakers have an option on Trey Johnson (not sure if they’re going to take it or not).

The Lakers will surely add someone in the offseason with the MLE

So, at worst the Lakers will have 4 roster spots open, but only 2 of those will make the active roster.

The Lakers have 3 second round draft picks, and the talent that will be available in the second round this year is not all that impressive. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Lakers package those picks together for a role player who will take the role Sasha used to have. But I think examining the roster this is probably the only trade that actually happens.

Assume Dwight won't happen

Don’t see Orlando caving to the Lakers on this.

In light of Minny and Gasol (combine Gasol and Rubio from Spanish team and maybe they get Calderon to play with them too…)

Minny: PGasol, DEbanks
LAL: RFelton, #2 pick (Williams), MBeasley, JFlynn, TMosgov, ATolliver
DEN: RArtest, SBlake, NPekovic

PG: RFelton, JFlynn, DFisher
SG: Kobe, SBrown
SF: DWilliams, MBarnes, LWalton
PF: LOdom, MBeasley, DCaracter
C: Bynum, TMosgov, ATolliver

Get a solid 27yr old PG who wants out of Denver (who plays very solid D and decent O), a potential bust/player in Flynn, a possible future stud in Williams, Beasley can back up Odom and either grows up and becomes the future PF or he expires (2012 final contract yr), and finally some young solid depth behind Bynum (that isn’t 40yrs old! or broken!)

Can send a few of our 2nd round picks as well.

The following is a trade idea from MitchRich23:
My trade to make the Lakers the favorites for next year’s title involves:

Lakers getting: Dwight Howard, Hedo Turkoglu, Martell Webster, Darko or Pekovic, Kevin Love & Johnny Flynn (who turned out to be a terrible pick & they dont need him w/ Rubio coming over & Ridnour there). Ideally the Twolves would throw in #2 pick in exchange for Lakers 3 2nd rounders but that’s highly unlikely.

Twolves get: Pau Gasol, Matt Barnes, Derrick Caracter

Magic get: Andrew Bynum, Lamar Odom, Devin Ebanks, Lakers 2012 #1 pick.

Ideal lineup: Howard, Love, Artest, Bryant, Fisher w/ Flynn, Shannon Brown (resigned), Webster, Hedo & Darko off the bench. Even more staggering would be if the Twolves gave up the #2 pick for the Lakers to draft Derrick Williams to take minutes away from Artest at 3 and Love can slide over to the 5 if neccessary. The new rotation would look like this: PG- Fisher, Flynn SG- Kobe, Webster, SF- Artest, Williams PF- Love, Hedo C- Howard, Darko. I would still like to see the Lakers get rid of Luke Walton’s contract and either Blake, DFish or Flynn in exchange for an expiring contract or decent starting PG but that’s prolly pipe dreams. Or to make a drastic trade to sweeten the deal for the Magic trade Walton, Blake & Flynn for Arenas’ huge contract. This all assumes that the cap doesn’t get drastically reduced b/c the Lakers would have a ton of players making big $. But that team would be DYNAMITE! I would even move Kobe to the 1 b/c I don’t like Blake, Flynn or DFish to be honest and then play big w/ Kobe, Artest, Williams, Love & Howard down the stretch. Most importantly, this team would have serious depth so Kobe’s minutes could be cut to around 30 a night and the tempo should be increased to get everyone more shots. This team would be great on offense & defense w/ no noticeable holes but have a HUGE, YANKEESQUE PAYROLL!

LIke I said on his thread

The Wolves would be absolutely stupid to even think about doing this trade. I love the idea for the Lakers, and the Magic actually get a decent deal out of it. But the Wolves’ roster would get destroyed.

nah I think AMMO would thrive without anyone else on the court

Any teams starting five, VS Adam Morrison, by himself. Morrison’s unprecedented skills would leave opponents crying at the end of games while the Lakers (or I suppose “Laker”) would be on their way to an 82-0 season.

hello evan, great thing you did here in the spirit of this all-out thread. some thoughts but just mine

1. i don’t see how portland does this with lma there. pau at center? offensive nightmare combo but thin on D. i like what this does for LA but we’d have to dump artest in a heartbeat for a shooter. marginal improvement, if any.
2. unless harris becomes the force he was in dallas plus a deadly 3 and al jeff learns to shoot and play pick and roll…no way.
3. a big NO from LA. i may be undervaluing sessions though.
4. i thought this would be completely nuts for the bucks to do. then they win by 2 more? stats really mislead. if MIL agrees, i don’t see how we use bogut. power forward?
5. i’d do this at the tail end of 2 blockbuster trades (like ORL or PHILLY plus MIN) as icing.
6. den won’t do this. there are more offers out there with more value. but if they do, I say YES!
7. will golden state offer so much for gasol (i clearly am undervaluing pau if that be the case)? i would consider but not something i’d jump the gun on.
8. oh well, okay.
9. this intrigues me. bynum will be the focal point of this offense. (though mike brown said he’d play twin tower ball) if we wanted spacing, bargnani might do the trick. defense will dip for sure. we get calderon too, slick offensive threat, great dip in defense (as if we had lots of it at the pg slot). derozan being in this trade entices me. he has struck me as a competitor and impact player - my poor man’s jr smith (who’d i think is the best available backup and student to kobe, gulps.) might do this. but then am not mitch.
10. the best one here imo. i’d do this. let’s do this! dwill’s desire to leave for a winning team will clinch this (or not). i recall people wanting to ship drew for lopez (and harris) last year. now we dump luke, blake, lose pau (and even give them a pick or two) for lopez, dwill, outlaw and graham? next move for me is to move artest (sorry ronron) for a shooter. dwill-kobe-outlaw-lopez-bynum??? dfish, brown, graham, barnes, LO, nazr and some picks on the bench plus the mle surprise am sure mitch can deliver… wow! but NJ won’t do this =(

so many of us were saying trade bynum for d12 or cp3 straight up, but for 1-2 picks and pau, we might as well get cp3 straight up (of sorts) and get d12 by luring 2 other picks with bynum

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ygod9k8

fanboydom i know but tis not that farfetched. cp3-kobe-artest-odom-howard…that’d be a monster on defense just the way brown likes it. i trust mitch will land us a new 6th man via mle (i hope they keep this), some veterans and a shooter too to keep us competitive.

by bypasser on Jun 11, 2011 9:13 AM PDT reply actions

IMO, I keep barnes and artest for defense reason. Hoever, artest should lose his starting job and be replaced with a shooter.

here, the two sunsetting giants try to rejuvenate each other with some shakeup. we need to give one (two to clinch) of our picks which no doubt san antonio will put to good use.

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=3tqugk2

pop can have his twin towers back with duncan-pau and let his young guns get their due time…which i think could be a bad idea for us.

duncan-pau-ebanks-ginobili-hill with a youth movement plus barnes, bonner on the bench.

for us which on paper, i really like:

C- bynum/nazr
PF- odom/blair/2nd rounder
SF artest/jefferson/walton
SG – kobe/mle shooter (like jr smith)
PG
parker-blake-fisher-2nd rounder … built to win now with arguably the best bench in the league and a competitive starting 5. we’d be like a swiss army knife on offense-defense.

one thing that’d stop this, SA not getting enough (we might as well add blake for their peanuts to make this work)

and perhaps another CHEMISTRY. popp might as well shoot me now.

how do you include the trade exception in the trade machine? anyhow, some thoughts

1. i like this a lot. i think augustin could be that pg we need. but are we overvaluing caracter?
2. NO
3. tempting. actually i’d say yes as horford IS a pf. hinrich is craved after by some of us here. but would ATL do this? let’s see what they think after we throw pics.
4. i think SA is high on neal…why not?

by bypasser on Jun 11, 2011 9:56 AM PDT up reply actions

and lastly, as i am so bored right now, i shook up charlotte while doing only as bad as half-shaking the lakers

Charlotte gets: pau-artest-barnes-blake-caracter-ebanks-a 1st round pick (which we could do via trade in the draft for 2 2nd rounders and 2 2nd round picks, heck let’s give all 4 picks for minnesota’s 2nd pick overall KAHN) and a fast talker so MJ couldn’t think twice

Lakers gets: jackson-thomas-diop-carroll-augustin and henderson

their new lineup would be: pau-d.williams-diaw-they can lure j.rich or another up and coming guard to pair with d.williams as i understand they are now going under the cap (only the cba can kill this)-blake with a bench of kwame-dj white/caracter-najera/ebanks-temple/some mle guy-livingston and for all i care they can do some trades of their own.

as am beginning to feel bad as i can’t really plug in names for their bench, let’s award them shanwow too.

our new lineup would be:
C- bynum/diop
PF- odom/t.thomas/veteran player x
SF- kobe/carroll/walton (darn it!)
SG- jackson/henderson/mle guy (i really am being possessed here, let’s take jr smith or steal andrei miller for our point guard)
PG- augustin/fisher/veteran player (let’s steal andre miller)
PG- miller/augustin/fisher

13 players, steady dose of offense-defense

AND FINALLY, thank heavens am not the GM!

trade w/ philly

what about Pau, Artest, Walton, Caracter for Brand, Iguodala & Speights. Starting lineup of Bynum, Brand, Iggy, Kobe, Dfish w/ Speights, Odom, Barnes, Shannon Brown (resigned), & Blake off the bench. Ideally you could trade Blake & Dfish to get a decent PG but I think this would really help b/c Iggy is a superior player to Artest in everything but spot up 3 point shooting (which he can learn) and guarding pfs but is a superior passer, ball handler, rebounder and perimeter defender b/c of his athleticism. Speights is also a decent backup b/c Brand & Bynum will probably only average 30 min a night leaving Odom & Speights to back them up. Or u could package Odom, Blake, Ebanks & pick for Monte Ellis & Udoh which would form a very potent lineup!

by MitchRich23 on Jun 11, 2011 11:12 PM PDT reply actions

I think it is much more importantt to get chris paul than it is dwight

you could do something like pau plus a couple first round picks for him probably

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ygod9k8

The reason why i think that we shouldn’t trade bynum plus whatever for dwight is because we would only be upgrading a little at center whereas when you trade pau for paul the pg posistion becomes almost infinitly better (sorry fish) and odom can step up and do a better job than pau did at power forward plus hopefully bynum continues to improve and stay healthy

If he doesn't sign an extension....

Then you have a Melo situation.

The two teams likely to fall into the trap Denver fell for are Orlando and New Orleans. They are scared about being a small market and losing their only superstar talent.

The Nets, on the other hand, IMO, will gamble on going into the offseason w/o an extension signed by Deron Williams, and will likely try to place their eggs in the Sign and Trade basket. Just a gut feeling.

There is no guarantees that any of these players leave their teams, of course. All 3 could decide to sign the extension before the lockout, or all 3 could decide to say screw it and see what happens.

The franchise tag is unlikely to happen, because that will only continue to elevate salaries, in a league with only 360 players, compared to the 1,500 in the NFL. Also, if a hard cap is initiated by the NBA, it likely won’t take effect for 3-5 years, because teams out there have players signed for those periods of time and may not be able to get under this hard cap, w/o releasing players. Releasing players in today’s current CBA requires the team to keep the cap hold, and the player is still owed the money, via the guaranteed contract aspect. To help teams be able to release players, the new CBA will have to eliminate guaranteed contracts, which is a legal battle all in it’s own, since those contracts were signed under an older CBA.

The whole situation is a mess, and trying to figure out who will have what to do whatever with in 2012 and beyond is impossible to even guess ATM. The only reliable way to add talent currently is via trades.

Don’t care who they bring in. Any trade is a good trade in my book. Time to get rid of those who don’t take their jobs serious. just to spark some redundant talk here. cmon, let's not wait for that cba as all teams do.

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=3r7sv6r

please add that the lakers have to throw in their 1st rounder next year (do they have this?) and even their 2nd rounder from DEN. they could also add caracter instead of the 2nd rounder.

and don’t tell ORL about the ridiculous change in wins using hollinger’s business of stats.

why? the league would not want the lakers to win again…not in the next 5 years at least.
another bad exit in the playoffs might skyrocket the worth of our big men down. not to mention there are too many distractions and not enough results.

both team’s centers sending mixed messages with unclear future signing (howard) and plain old manning up or simply throwing tantrums (bynum). bynum has been the best trade offer for d12 and i believe no other team can match up bynum + others for d12. we simply cannot throw bynum straight up. ORL will simply hang the phone and deliver a line mitch uses nowadays: "not true.‘’ on the other hand, both teams need to dump certain players. i believe blake (and to an extent odom) has become expendable with our pg prospects and so is turkoglu without d12 and nelson’s big contract. so here we find ourselves with this:

ORL lineup: bynum, odom, artest, arenas, duhon. bench: liggins, orton, caracter, r.anderson, harper, mle sf (butler, t.young or chandler could be had) walton, q. richardson, redick, blake. + 2 1st rounders next year

ORL has to face the music. their project last year simply went bad. they are cash strapped to add talent and trade partners for guys like turk and arenas are hard to find. so ORL might as well unleash arenas as the 2nd option and see where it goes. this new lineup remains a playoff starting 5 imo. they have bynum moving forward with a reasonable contract instead of nothing. odom’s contract gives flexibility. bynum and odom can be devastating on both ends. peace should anchor their perimeter D and maybe squeeze the D out of arenas (not too bad in his day) and duhon. walton will eventually expire. the starting 5 will not worry about chemistry as much.

LAL lineup: howard, gasol, turkoglu, kobe, nelson. bench: mohammed (vet), bass, t.murphy (vet), barnes, ebanks, n.young/jr smith (one of these guys can be had if mle exists i hope), goudelock, morris, fisher

that’s 14 players and some issues solved. gasol and howard can be a lethal defensive frontline. brown also wants some twin towers so hard to see us not having 2 seven footers together. pau simply has to step up and use that length. turk ain’t stopping lebron but ron wouldn’t be a great leap forward either. it has to be brown’s system. turk’s got length, will stretch the floor (i’ve been wanting a trade for pau to land granger or gay plus solid PG and somehow turn bynum to d12). nelson doesn’t seem to be the fit we need but just how many PGs are out there who can contribute already? he can shoot, slash and needs some work on D. with vets and mle guy plus rooks and bass, we could have the deepest bench to counter dallas et. al.

again, this is just me doing some random plug-ins. if you have some of your own, let’s make mitch do it!

by bypasser on Jun 26, 2011 2:48 AM PDT reply actions

the gasol reunification trade

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=3gj2tvt

i see us adding caracter and a some picks, maybe a 1st rounder.

why? reuniting the gasols in memphis is indeed an interesting proposition. including randolph in that rotation makes it even more devastating. memphis seems to be on the side of moving gay after that expensive extension and the rise of their bench players. conley and the failing prospect that is oj mayo as well seem to have been expendable after a good showing by vasquez and others in the playoffs. the lakers command this trade unlike the one in 08. we need shooting, athleticism and youth. this trade gives us all three and then some. as we have the superstar here (gay is not at pau’s level comparably plus he did suffer an injury), we get to ask for some extras. in this case, it’s conley, mayo and arthur. we also dump meta peace for peace’s sakes.

mem lineup: p.gasol, m.gasol, FA sf like caron butler or thaddeus young, tony allen, vasquez. bench: veteran C, randolph, caracter, artest, selby, FA sg like n.young or jr smith, i.smith and some other signings. they have a gasol frontline. for those saying don’t fix what ain’t broken, imagine pau gasol and zbo and marc rotating. mem dumps a redundant player, a failing prospect and only lose d.arthur. they also get cash and a pick.

lal lineup: bynum (who we can convert via orl trade), odom, gay, kobe, conley. bench: mohammed, t.murphy, arthur, barnes, ebanks, walton, mayo, goudelock, morris, blake (who i really like to move) and fisher. that’s 16 (we have to add one to that trade. i see ebanks) players and a hell of a lineup. we have a bomber and scorer in our frontline. we can explore the bynum-lamar combo (not too far from twin towers) and a decent pg with some upside. we also have mayo to find his touch and himself on our bench with an athletic arthur and a new killer bench.

if i combined this with trade above, we have:

C: howard, (mohammed)
PF: bass, arthur, (t.murphy)
SF: gay, turkoglu, barnes
SG: kobe, mayo, goudelock
PG: nelson, conley, morris, fisher

this assumes we buyout walton or get amnesty.

championship fellas!
