Around SBN: NFL Owners Vote to Change Trade Deadline

Line is set at -5.5 Lakers tonight. They covered the line in 2 of the 5 games so far.

Lakers close out games well on the road, plus they really haven't had a "dominant" road outing this series.

My guess is they cover the line tonight. Lakers by 7-10 points.

Your funny. I dont know if you know how betting works, but i bet money for The Lakers to cover the line and i won.

You obviously have some ill-will towards me because of the whole “NBA might be rigged argument i made” as a mod you need to handle your self better.

by Kevin M. on Apr 29, 2011 3:25 PM PDT up reply actions

I think you're the one who needs to handle yourself better. I have no ill-will towards you, not for any reason.

I don’t know how betting works, nor do I give a particular shit, so I just made a funny comment on your fanshot. If you don’t like those, you shouldn’t make fanshots or fanposts.

By the way, do you ever bet against the Lakers as a hedge?

I like to do that with my friends, so I get compensated when the Lakers lose and I willingly pay out when the Lakers win.

For example, I’m willing to bet my friend (who’s not a Lakers fan) that OKC will win the West; if that happens, Lakers lose but I win money, while if OKC does not win the West, likely the Lakers win and I gladly pay out the cash.

by edmondchoi on Apr 30, 2011 12:22 PM PDT reply actions

It depends on the line. If The Lakers are HEAVY favorites against a good team(which is never the case) then i might bet against em’.

Also if The Lakers are underdogs against a team i dont think they should be(which is not usually the case) they i might bet against em’.

by Kevin M. on Apr 30, 2011 12:24 PM PDT up reply actions

What's the meaning of yoru second sentence? I'm confused

“Also if The Lakers are underdogs against a team i dont think they should be(which is not usually the case) they i might bet against em’.”

by edmondchoi on Apr 30, 2011 12:25 PM PDT up reply actions

Lets say if Lakers play OKC in the WCF and its game 4(in OKC).

Lakers might be underdogs for that game, like the line might be -2.5 OKC. So in that case i might be on LA because.

Yes. I meant i would bet against the line, which made it confusing.

by Kevin M. on Apr 30, 2011 12:35 PM PDT up reply actions

Not anymore. When moneys at stake you cant let your emotions pick for you.

by Kevin M. on Apr 30, 2011 12:29 PM PDT up reply actions

That would only work if the Heat win, which TRUST ME wont be the case.

You wanna win money you bet on The Lakers to 3-Peat. Dont ask me how i know, but ive already bet a shitload of money it. More money than i would because im so confident in it. Again dont ask how i know…

by Kevin M. on Apr 30, 2011 12:36 PM PDT up reply actions

Basically, I am willing to pay someone $1000 for the Heat lose because I hate them soooo much.

I am also willing to pay someone loads of money in order for the Lakers to win. Because emotional satisfaction means so much more than money to me.

by edmondchoi on Apr 30, 2011 12:38 PM PDT up reply actions

Than go and bet on The Lakers winning.

Huh? That way, I get money when the Lakers win, but I’m saying I wouldn’t would pay money for the Lakers to win.

by edmondchoi on Apr 30, 2011 12:42 PM PDT up reply actions

If the Lakers win, I don't need money... the emotional satisfaction makes up for boatloads of money.

But if the Lakers lose, then I would need money to help get over the extremely tough loss (although a lot of money still won’t be enough to compensate).

by edmondchoi on Apr 30, 2011 12:43 PM PDT up reply actions

Again they WONT lose. So you dont need to worry about compensation.

by Kevin M. on Apr 30, 2011 12:46 PM PDT up reply actions

Darn, I wish I were so confident as you in the Lakers

The OKC Thunder and Miami Heat scare the hell out of me. This makes the Dallas series less enjoyable, knowing that extremely tough opponents lie ahead. Go Memphis and Boston!

by edmondchoi on Apr 30, 2011 12:40 PM PDT up reply actions

Trust me bro. Its almost the equivalent of insider trading. Lakers wont lose.

Im not telling you to go bet your house on it, but ive bet a shitload of money on The Lakers winning it all.

by Kevin M. on Apr 30, 2011 12:47 PM PDT up reply actions

No chance of losing at all? How about vs. the Heat?

What if the Lakers have to face the vaunted Heat, the team that annihilated the Lakers on X’mas Day and beat ’em in crunch time in May?

by edmondchoi on Apr 30, 2011 12:56 PM PDT up reply actions

Vaunted Heat? Your not serious are you?

Two-time defending champs dont fear anyone, ts the other way around. We got swept by Orlando in the regular season in 09’ and wiped the floor with them in The Finals with Drew on one leg and a terrible supporting cast.

Your over-rating Miami because of the big-3 goons. How are they going to guard Pau/Drew/Lamar?

We have Ron-Kobe-Barnes to throw at Wade/Bron who the fuck do they have to guards our bigs? No one.

by Kevin M. on Apr 30, 2011 1:00 PM PDT up reply actions

Plus they might be the only team in the Playoffs that doesnt have a PG advantage against us.

by Kevin M. on Apr 30, 2011 1:01 PM PDT up reply actions

The Lakers' size advantage is huge, theoretically

But it was the complete opposite in the regular season… the Lakers bigs did nothing against the Heat, got totally outrebounded, and their Big 3 dominated. Those losses were the most painful losses of the year, by far. And the X’Mas Day loss was the most embarrassing loss for the Lakers in the past 10 years.

by edmondchoi on Apr 30, 2011 1:07 PM PDT up reply actions

At this point in your Laker fan-hood you should now that what Lakers do in the regular season means NOTHING. Nada. Zip.

This regular season we got owned by teams like Memphis(2), Utah(without Deron), Indy, Clippers, Denver(at home without Melo), Charlotte(again), Cleveland.

Last year we lost to Cleveland twice, lost to orlando, lost to boston.

My point is that they just dont bring it for regular season games, not even for the “statemnt” games. They just dont give a fuck, it sucks, but thats how they are.

In The Finals, with days off between games, longer time-out breaks, time for Phil Jackson to gameplan they cant be beat.

by Kevin M. on Apr 30, 2011 1:11 PM PDT up reply actions

Plus the problem is not beat the Lakers. Its beating them 4 out 7 games thats hard, or should i say impossible because no ones done it in 2+ years.

by Kevin M. on Apr 30, 2011 1:12 PM PDT up reply actions

But nothing is guaranteed.

What if Derek Fisher doesn’t hit that 3-pointer with 6 minutes to go in Game 7? What is Sasha bricks those FTs and Ray Allen goes back down to hit a 3?

by edmondchoi on Apr 30, 2011 1:24 PM PDT up reply actions

Fisher DID hot that 3. Sasha DID make those free-throws.

Too many scenarios to think about what-ifs. What if we had Drew/Trevor in 08’? What if Rondo doesnt hit that 3 at the emd of game 7, what if Sheed doesnt hit that 3 at the end of game 7, what if Kobe played team ball all 7 games, what if Ron-Ron doesn’t completely man-handle pierce every game, what if Ron-Ron doesnt hit that 3….

by Kevin M. on Apr 30, 2011 1:28 PM PDT up reply actions

There are so many possible scenarios and only one scenario is reality.

But if an alternate scenario occurred, then the result may have been different.

It’s not true that the Lakers will win with 100% probability. You can only say that in hindsight, say on July 17, 2011, after the Lakers complete the three-peat.

by edmondchoi on Apr 30, 2011 1:35 PM PDT up reply actions

Lakers win with 100% probability means that it will happen

with the same probability the the sun will rise tomorrow!

by edmondchoi on Apr 30, 2011 1:36 PM PDT up reply actions

It’s not true that the Lakers will win with 100% probability.

To me it is. Im not even exaggerating.

by Kevin M. on Apr 30, 2011 1:38 PM PDT up reply actions

Going back in time

What would say were the Lakers’ chances of beating the Celtics in 2008? Say 60%?

Lakers’ chances of beating Detroit in 2004? Wouldn’t say it was 100% back then?

by edmondchoi on Apr 30, 2011 1:48 PM PDT up reply actions

Lakers in 08’ depends. If we had Drew(like we thought we would), and we had 100% healthy Trevor then id say our chances are like 70-75%.

But we didnt. We had a Vladdy getting serious minutes, Luke guarding PP, and Pau in botch mode.

Even with all that we wouldve had game 2, if it wasnt for that SOB Pierce faking that injury. I lost the little tiny bit of respect i had for him after that, so did a lot of players in the league.

by Kevin M. on Apr 30, 2011 1:51 PM PDT up reply actions

In 04’ i was confident but when Malone went down with that ankle injury it really put a dent in my confidence.

Plus Kobe was absolutely awful that series. He broke the offense consistently, took terrible shots, and im sure he wasnt too great a teammate back then.

by Kevin M. on Apr 30, 2011 1:53 PM PDT up reply actions

It is so frustrating to lose all of these prime-time games. Why in the world don't they care?

It should be different in the playoffs, as I think L.A. could beat Miami but that would be the toughest series imaginable. And OKC could sure stretch the Lakers to 7 games.

by edmondchoi on Apr 30, 2011 1:14 PM PDT up reply actions

I hate it too man. Its so annoying that one has to wonder whether its worth it to go 7-8 months of terrible basketball, suffering(as a fan) then enjoy 1 month of great basketball in The Playoffs to win it all.

Its worth it, but i wish theyd do both.

by Kevin M. on Apr 30, 2011 1:17 PM PDT up reply actions

Im with you. Even Jerry Buss said before the season started this could be the best Laker team of all-time(BOLD STATEMENT).

They werent even close, this regular season was one of the worst to watch season from a contending team ive seen in awhile.

by Kevin M. on Apr 30, 2011 1:22 PM PDT up reply actions

The consensus among Lakers fans (and everyone in the media) is that Miami is the Lakers' toughest competition

followed by OKC, based on their quickness and athleticism. (Plus, OKC has the size to match up.) How come you think otherwise? Who is the Lakers’ biggest threat?

by edmondchoi on Apr 30, 2011 1:10 PM PDT up reply actions

OKC is too inexperienced. Miami doesnt have the size.

OKC might have size, but they dont have the talent to go along with that size. Perk might be able to hold his own on the defensive end, but he cant work Pau/Drew on the other end to wear em out. Nazr Mohammed is mediocre at best, Ibaka doesnt have enough bulk, and is more of a help defender.

by Kevin M. on Apr 30, 2011 1:15 PM PDT up reply actions

In The Playoffs its ALL about match-ups. Thats why San Antonio lost to a lesser Memphis team, not because they arent as good as them(they are) but because they dont match-up well with em’.

by Kevin M. on Apr 30, 2011 1:16 PM PDT up reply actions

Speaking of S.A., they would have had a shot against OKC.

Now, OKC will destroy Memphis in 5 games and coast to the WCF. So, the inevitable Lakers-Thunder WCF is two weeks ago. (Ipicked this series last summer; did you too? That seemed to be the consensus.

by edmondchoi on Apr 30, 2011 1:18 PM PDT up reply actions

San Antonio couldve definitely beaten OKC. But i wouldve taken OKC in 7 against the Spurs. Now ill take OKC in 6(maybe 5) against Memphis.

Yea LA-OKC was my choice too, but also thought it couldve been LA-Dallas.

by Kevin M. on Apr 30, 2011 1:21 PM PDT up reply actions

"Two-time defending champs dont fear anyone"?

The Rockets sure feared the dominant Bulls in 1996.
The Lakers (at least the fans) sure feared the Kings in 2002, and that took an Horry miracle for the Lakers to win.

by edmondchoi on Apr 30, 2011 1:11 PM PDT up reply actions

These Lakers are different. They know they’re so good that they what the other team does is irrelevant. If they play their “A” game, no one can beat em in a best of 7 series.

And their right.

by Kevin M. on Apr 30, 2011 1:13 PM PDT up reply actions

What's your exact pick on Lakers-Mavs?

I say Lakers in 5, in the typical fashion W W L W W.

by edmondchoi on Apr 30, 2011 1:16 PM PDT up reply actions

Yea i say Lakers in 5. W, W, L, W, W. But i could also see it going W, W, W, L, W.

Honestly i wouldn’t be surprised if we sweep em. Lakers HATE Dallas, Phil HATES Cuban. When Lakers dislike an opponent its not good news for the other team.

by Kevin M. on Apr 30, 2011 1:19 PM PDT up reply actions

I'm absolutely sure that Kobe hates LeBron privately!

but he has not said that publicly (or he has through his agent).
So, perhaps that’s a good sign. Hopefully, he doesn’t do too much to hurt the team, like in March. (Damn Pau Gasol choked with the free throws, Ron Artest couldn’t hit a freakin layup in the last minute. Damn the Miami Heat).

by edmondchoi on Apr 30, 2011 1:22 PM PDT up reply actions

I’m absolutely sure that Kobe hates LeBron privately!

I think everyone outside of Miami hates him lol.

Yea Miami had there fun beating LA in the regular season. But when it counts they wont. They dont have the size, the strength, he experience, the will power, the coaching, the depth…

Oh and Miami’s crowd be be the only crowd WORSE than LA’s. Seriously they dont even sell out Playoff games.

by Kevin M. on Apr 30, 2011 1:25 PM PDT up reply actions

Good to hear your confidence

I’m still shaken by the regular season games against the Heat. As for the Lakers beating the Heat, I am one of those who need to see it to believe it. The Lakers have really struggled against LeBron’s teams (4 straight losses).

Lakers-Heat in the Finals would be the most anticipated NBA Finals in league history. Biggest viewership, ever eh? The Lakers need to steal Game 1, take two out of three at home, and then close out in Miami in Game 6. Lakers beating the Heat would validate Kobe’s place in history, as being better than LeBron even if the Heat win 5 championships, eh?

by edmondchoi on Apr 30, 2011 1:30 PM PDT up reply actions

Because if the Heat beat the Lakers in the Finals...

the media (ESPN) will jump all over LeBron and crown him as the best in this generation. Kobe needs to beat LeBron’s Heat in the Finals (not just beat the Celtics or Bulls) to stop this talk forever.

by edmondchoi on Apr 30, 2011 1:32 PM PDT up reply actions

Like i said no matter how many rings Bron wins(wont be more than 3, if that) he wont be ranked higher than Kobe.

He gave up that GOAT take when he fled to Miami. You cant be considered the GOAT when you LEAVE a team, and go join to other-superstars(even though i dont think Bosh is a superstar).

by Kevin M. on Apr 30, 2011 1:37 PM PDT up reply actions

I’m still shaken by the regular season games against the Heat.

You shouldnt be. Im 100% sure Lakers didnt do things they usually would against them just in case they meet em’ in The Finals(possible). Plus like i said, this regular season Lakers played absolutely garbage, nothing they did should be taken into consideration.

The Lakers need to steal Game 1, take two out of three at home, and then close out in Miami in Game 6. Lakers beating the Heat would validate Kobe’s place in history, as being better than LeBron even if the Heat win 5 championships, eh?

Hmm. They would need to take on of the 2 in Miami(my guess is game 1). Then like you said take 2 of 3 at home(they wont be winning it on our home-floor) and take it in 6.

Yea it would be great for the league if it was Lakers-Heat. Kobe is always going to be ranked higher than LeBron. LeBron gave up his place in the GOAT when he ran to Miami basically saying “i cant do this myself, i need help”.

by Kevin M. on Apr 30, 2011 1:35 PM PDT up reply actions

Do you think it will be a letdown for the league if LeBron and Kobe never face off in the Finals?

2009: Kobe-LeBron cookie commercials, Magic-Bird comparisons, etc.
2010: More hype (any commericals?)
2011: More hype than ever for this matchup

I think both players would be disappointed to never have the chance to beat their rivals.

by edmondchoi on Apr 30, 2011 1:43 PM PDT up reply actions

Im sure in some way yea it would be a let-down for the league.

But Lakers-Boston is never a bad fall-back(rating last year were through the roof, highest in like 10 years). Plus Lakers-Bulls would be pretty intriguing, Phil going to his 4th 3-Peat against Chicago, his last Finals against the team that he started it all.

Plus Chicago and Boston are bigger market teams than Miami.

by Kevin M. on Apr 30, 2011 1:47 PM PDT up reply actions

Lakers-Bulls would awesome

1991: Bulls over Lakers, Jordan over Magic, Phil wins his first
2011: Lakers over Bulls, Kobe over Rose, Phil wins his last

by edmondchoi on Apr 30, 2011 1:51 PM PDT up reply actions

Yea it would be almost storybook. But i dont know if Chicago has enough offense to get by Miami/Boston.

It would also be GREAT to put an end to Chicago undefeated in The Finals thing they have going.

I'm not really worried about Boston after the Perkins trade

Their size has diminished, although Shaq could be a big X-Factor. Another great storyline would be Shaq going back to L.A. Lakers trying to tie the Celtics with 17 titles.

by edmondchoi on Apr 30, 2011 2:00 PM PDT up reply actions

Boston’s definitely worse off after the Perkins trade. But Shaq(if he ever plays again) would be a very good defender to throw at Drew because Drew wouldnt be able to post him up(no one can).

But Shaq cant play extended minutes, and hes a liability on the other end.

Great storyline though, your right. Hed get a lot of Boo’s at Staples.

by Kevin M. on Apr 30, 2011 2:03 PM PDT up reply actions

I think this may be the last chance

Given the lock out, the rise of the Bulls and the Thunder, Kobe’s age, etc.

Damn, it should have already happened in 2009, if not for the beast Dwight Howard.

Pacquiao-Mayweather is for different reasons, Mayweathers scared shitless.

I used support Mayweather, but after Manny agreed to take a blood test and MoneyMay still didnt fight him that proves hes just scared to lose that un-beaten record.
