Report: Lakers About To Go Ham
Marc Spears of Yahoo! is reporting that the Lakers are close to adding another assistant coach to Mike Brown's staff. Darvin Ham, who's been coaching the Albuquerque Thunderbirds of the NBDL, is the guy. Ham was an eight-year journeyman in the NBA after playing his college ball at Texas Tech, for whom he did this in the 1996 NCAA tournament:
That got him on the cover of Sports Illustrated back when being on the SI cover was still a big deal. Welcome to the Laker family, Darvin!

A coach to not coach
seeing as there might be no season

Looks like a developmental guy
Who is mostly a supplemental coach more than anything. Brown already has Person to handle the defense, Kuester and Messina for the offense, and Snyder for general stuff, and Ham looks like the least experienced and distinguished of the bunch. Granted, we don’t have a whole lot to judge him on and he could be solid for all we know, but that’s probably going to be his role.

And by developmental, I mean as a player developmental coach
Who works one-on-one with players on skill stuff, which is what Snyder did last year with Philly, although it sounds like Brown will have him handle more responsibility than that. So will Ham mind you, but probably not as much as the other coaches.
