Magic needs to stop hating on Lakers

What's up with Magic these days? I understand his frustration with the team getting swept by the Mavs last season. But his comments ever since have been either ripping Lakers or the team in general. He doesn't like Lamar Odom's offcourt "distractions," he doesn't think Ron Artest should've changed his name to Metta World Peace. Magic needs to just chill and count his money. I like what blogNBAsketball  recently said about the situation. Erv needs to just chill already.....

Magic Johnson is, HANDS DOWN, the Greatest Laker Of All Time.

Read this aloud:
Career highlights and awards
5× NBA Champion (1980, 1982, 1985, 1987–1988)
3× NBA Most Valuable Player (1987, 1989–1990)
12× NBA All-Star (1980, 1982–1992)
3× NBA Finals MVP (1980, 1982, 1987)
9× All-NBA First Team (1983–1991)
All-NBA Second Team (1982)
NBA All-Rookie First Team (1980)
2× NBA All-Star Game MVP (1990, 1992)
NBA’s 50th Anniversary All-Time Team
NCAA Champion (1979)

  1. Retired by Los Angeles Lakers

Magic, FIRST Multi-million dollar contract: $25mil for 25 years. Unheard of at the time.

Magic Johnson, Electried the State of Michigan, NCAA Men’s Basketball, the Lakers, Los Angeles, the NBA, the World.

Magic Johnson: Biggest Player/Entreprenaur in the history of the NBA.
Magic Johnson: Former Co-owner of his team (NBA First).

Magic Johnson, The Most Interesting Man In The World.

You, nor I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT understand at all his frustration with HIS Team.
The thousands and thousands of hours he put in helping to continue the CLASSINESS of The Lakers / The NBA. We don’t understand THAT level of success. We don’t work that hard at anything.

If Magic Johnson has something to say about the Lakers, it’s always about how the Lakers can do better, be better, right now. If he says something about the NBA or players in the NBA, it’s to continually improve the NBA.

Never use these words in the same sentence: Magic, Hating, Lakers.
Magic Johnson LOVES the Lakers With All His Heart.

The problem is a generation of folks who cheapen the language, cheapen the culture,
cheapen a standard of excellence, and generally cheapen life in general. Players making far more money than Magic Johnson ever made, have cheapen the sport. Little value. Take the league, their opportunity, and even us the fans for granted.

Magic has EARNED the right and the priviledge to say anything he wants about the Lakers and the League, whenever he feels like it. Nobody has to agree. But, please, do not dismiss Magic Johnson as someone who “has to chill”. How disrespectful. Seriously. Yes, Really.

Yeah, I agree.

If anyone can make any critiques about the Lakers, its Magic. He doesn’t mean malice by it.

You don’t see many other legends still publicly interested about the teams they played for. Lakers are lucky to have many of them.. Speaking of which………..

Saying Magic is a terrible basketball commentator or analyst doesn't mean we don't respect him

Quite the contrary — I doubt you can honestly say that you’re a Laker fan if you don’t appreciate what Magic has done for the Lakers. Doesn’t mean that he wasn’t a horrible coach because he couldn’t empathize with players who didn’t have his insane drive, or that he continues to say inane, trite, and oftentimes moronic things as a television analyst. Only time I’ve honestly found him entertaining is when he was paired with the Inside the NBA crew and could work off Chuck’s zaniness. This is almost the same thing with Kobe nowadays. We can’t get pass the radioactive mess that automatically go, “KOBE IZ GOAT. FU IF U DONT THINK SO” even against mild, justified criticism. God knows Kobe has received flak from the writers of this site for some dumb stuff he does on the court, but it’s the furthest thing from the truth to say that we don’t respect him.

language changes

culture changes, standards change, and all of those affect life differently.

I don't have a problem with him criticizing the team

i just find his commentary on them most of the time to be annoying, fickle nonsense I’ve come to expect from causal fans that call 710 ESPN. I remember back in April before the playoffs started he was on several late night shows and bragging about how great our front court depth was, how we were going to three peat, blah blah blah. Then when we got our asses handed to us by the mavs, he bitches on ABC about how the team is way too old, then was begging Jerry Buss to break it up and trade for Dwight Howard, as though that would address the glaring problems with the perimeter shooting/defense.

  1. To be fair, criticizing Lamar and Ron for those offseason distractions seems to be a legitimate thing to do. I certainly gripe about it sometimes.
  2. Magic criticizing the Lakers? Unless I’m mistaken, he isn’t the only one criticizing them. We’ve eviscerated Pau, Jim Buss, Bynum, Fisher, Mike Brown (who hasn’t even done anything yet), and so on and so on. Why are we exempt from this apparent ban on criticizing the Lakers?

Is something deeper going on?

Yeah, I agree w/ you guys…Magic can criticize all he wants, he’s earned it…but this piece on blognbasketball kinda opened my eyes a bit…sounds like there might be something else going on. Earvin hasn’t exactly been Mr. Laker the last 9 months (nor has Kareem or Jerry West for that matter). You don’t think something else might be going on behind the scenes???

Lol I don't know, I think he's entitled to say alot

I rip the Lakers constantly, it’s like having a drunk brother and you do and say what you can to get them out of it. I sometimes agree with Magic

"Hardwork beats talent when talent fails to work hard"-Norm Nixon

There are basic Fundamentals that are needed to move forward in this game. Always keep your guard up at all times to avoid being caught in a trap. Overcome the fouls that will be committed against you REBOUND AND PRESS ON. ADJUST to the Limelight: ALL-STAR PLAYERS ARE ALWAYS THE CENTER OF ATTENTION. Know what your role is and play your position. Find a game plan and execute it. REMEMBER YOU ONLY GET OUT OF THE GAME WHAT YOU PUT INTO IT.

Magic

I love Magic and think he’s the greatest Laker player ever but sometimes he goes out of his way to criticize the Lakers to appear unbiased. You know if they had reality TV back when he was playing he certainly would’ve had his own show. Lamar was “distracted” even before he got the show with Khloe.
