Yesterday y'all did a romping, stomping great job breaking down the Western Conference race among teams not named the Lakers. In assessing who presents the greatest threat to the purple and gold this year, the Oklahoma City Thunder were the runaway winner with well over half the vote. Today we look at the East - or as I prefer to think of it, the conference to which Amare Stoudemire fled in shame after Pau Gasol humiliated him in the Western Finals to the point he started crying like a little baby right there on the court.*
(* = not at all an embellishment. This actually happened.)
There aren't too many plausible options when it comes to the East in 2010-11. The Boston Celtics, Miami Heat and Orlando Magic are three superpowers with ICBMs pointed at each other. The Chicago Bulls lurk as a thorn-in-the-side insurgent force. Beyond that, there's... what? The Atlanta Hawks? The Milwaukee Bucks? The New York Knicks and little crybaby Amare Stoudemire, who likes to cry on the court? Sorry, bromigos. I don't think so.
Personally, I've not yet picked a horse in the Eastern Conference race. I'm leaning toward the Heat, but not with any high degree of certitude. So please do give me and your fellow sexy readers the benefit of your intellect by voting in the poll and articulating your rationale in the comments.

I have a feeling that the Heat will be the new Cavs of the Eastern conference. They will be really good in the regular season. They will win alot of games, and will end up having the best record in the East (I think the Lakers can still one up them in the win column, barring any injuries).
However, I feel like they will fold in the playoffs just like the Cavs did the last few years. Teams will be able to focus on their big 3, and they wont have enough help around them to make it past the Celtics, Magic or possibly even the Bulls. I still think we could have another Celtics, Lakers Finals this year. They got older, but still have some gas in the tank (especially in the playoffs).

As much as I hate the Celtics, they know how to get their act together when necessary. Lakers will really stomp on a one year older C’s team in the 2011 NBA Finals. That would be sweet. Miami will be a force down the line with a couple of MLE signings in the next few years and once they figure things out. They won’t be winning this first year. Crybaby Amare may have gone to the East but so did perennial underachiever Carlos Boozer. I’m not sold on the Bulls. And the Magic will find a way to blow things unless they find some chumps to trade Vin-sanity to.

Wade with talent is a winner. Celtics are still over the hill, last season’s finals was their last gasp. Orlando has chemistry problems and Chicago needs winners. nobody else in the East is a contender.

orlando is declining, boston just got older (even though everybody doubted them once before) and miami is a joke.

They lost Lee and added Amare, but Amare doesnt have a Nash to pass him the ball 3 feet from the basket.

Well, Amar'e won roy w/o nash and was able to contribute 20 and 9 without him in his second season. Being able to pass means nothing if you dont have a player that can finish.
Amar’e became reliant on Nash, but in all honesty, if he tried harder he wouldn’t have needed perfectly placed passes to score.

I think the Heat
Sorry, I just don’t see them losing this year. Wade was good enough by himself to get that team into the playoffs last year. Now he’s got the help of the second best player in the league and one of the best big men in the league as well. Plus, an improved Mario Chalmers. The only area where I think they’ve weakened is in the 5 slot, and as long as they have a big man who can play a little bit of D and cause some havoc it won’t be too much of an issue.
I think the Heat will definitely dominate the regular season, but it’s gonna be tough for them to lose in the playoffs. Minutes go up for all starters in the playoffs and with LeBron, Wade, and Bosh playing 40+ minutes each, thats gonna be tough to beat. The Lakers can do it, I’m not sure any team in the East will be able too. But we’ll see.
Of course, there is one X factor. If ANY of the other Eastern contenders sign AMMO, then their chances will go WAY up! Just sayin.

Very hard to say in my opinion
but I’m going to pick the Heat.
It’s up in the air because the Heat have the best overall talent, yet teams like Boston, Orlando, and even Chicago to an extent are strong where the Heat are not. I hope everyone in the East stays healthy and we get some entertaining series this year.
