As a big referee complainer myself, I’m letting out a little frustration right now, if you haven’t heard or read, the NBA is cracking down on players reaction after bad calls and complaining after bad calls. Here the link: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5609817
"The proper mindset, in every player's mind, is abstinence. That is: to not complain," NBA executive vice president of basketball operations Stu Jackson said. "The focus here is to just play the game. We have a great game. We have great players. We have a great product. Let's focus on executing offense and defense and being highly competitive. Complaining doesn't have a part in our game, and complaining has never changed a non-call to a call, or a call to a non-call."
Now if I was any coach of any NBA team, I would tell all my players to start complaining, that’s how dumb this new ban is because without the players, you have no NBA product and the referees have no one to T up. When is STU gonna say well let’s fix the problem of referees getting the call wrong in the first damn place so players won’t complain at all. How about that STU?? How about letting the players play? How about getting rid of the referees all together? How about expanding the use of instant replay? How about actually taking a public survey and truly finding out what is killing the league and the air over the referees?? It has nothing to do with complaining but it has everything to do with stupid calls, make up calls and non calls. After reading such nonsense I feel bad about watching the upcoming season, I feel bad for the players, I can see it already getting out of hand, I can see me throwing extra items at my TV screen now. Just think about it, T’s just for pumping your fist anywhere on the court, the last thing a player is thinking about when playing basketball is the refs, now the players MUST think about the refs or atleast be mindful, act like they are 9 months old and can’t talk. That is ridiculous, in the heat of the moment you think a player is gonna stop there already in-motion body to think oh I better not throw my hands up the ref might T me up, I better calm myself down and walk peacefully to the other end of the floor…BULLSHIT. I think this rule sucks the life out of the NBA, the referees already suck now they get permission to suck even MORE and get away with it, I really like players jumping on refs after a bad call is made because how are refs gonna know they are wrong if no one corrects them, it sure ain’t coming from the people in the office and STU makes it seem like these referee dudes are prefect, can’t miss a call. We all know that ain’t the case at all, they miss a ton and in my opinion all calls are costly especially when it cost your team a possession and gives the other team an extra one. So instead of trying to correct miss call behavior they to me are endorsing it, allowing it, showing they don’t give a damn and giving the referees more power then they need. Now don’t let me coach professionally because by halftime my whole squad would be disqualified on national TV, let’s see how the league likes that, take that STU, I can honestly see Phil pulling a stunt like that. It would be nice if the whole league took a stand on this damn rule because this is beyond ridiculous. Together we stand, divided we fall but if the coaches and NBA players decide they want to put up with this rule then power to them but they might lose me in the process because this now sounds unwatchable. My excitement for this new season went from a 10 to a 5.
By the way forget Henry Abbott and his thoughts: http://espn.go.com/blog/TrueHoop/post/_/id/20021/seven-technical-thoughts
But what’s your thoughts on the new rule, yay or nay?? I say NAY, NAY and NAY some freaking more, the NBA and its policies stink, oh and the referees to.
NBA Players should be able _______ **Make sure you either have played basketball, asked a basketball player or coach basketball before you answer this question. Thanks.
