Does passing off the backboard to yourself count as a FG attempt?

Just because you throw someone a pass, and they score, it doesn't mean you made them a better player.

i think it's the same as when an airball ends up being a put-back

like game 5 against phoenix, kobe airballed the shot, it ended up in ron’s hands, he puts it back in and lakers win. i don’t think kobe gets that “assist”. it would be different if kobe was in the air, saw ron cutting and passed him the ball underneath the basket because that would clearly be an assist. so, it has to do with intention. if someone misses a shot really badly (hitting the backboard), grabs it and puts it back it should be 2 FGA’s. but i’m pretty sure kobe knew he was essentially passing to himself, so it should 1 FGA.

… looong explanation is looong.

Ah, so there's no official ruling on it...

It’s just all about intention.

well, we don't know if it was ruled 1 or 2 FGA's.

unless we watch the entire game, count how many FGA kobe takes, and then look at the box score to compare. but i’d assume it would be just 1.

Its one of those things

where it leaves a little room for interpretation for the scorekeeper.

These things happened. They were glorious and they changed the world... and then we fucked up the end game. - Charlie Wilson

I just realized number 10

is the same play that we ran against Boston with Pau instead of Artest throwing the pass.

Long before there was LBJ, there was another physically talented power forward prowling the hardwood.

This is a great video of one of my favorite players, Chuck, King Charles, Turrible, however you know him, meet him again here. He loved the game, and was AWESOME!
