Pau Gasol is number one, because of Kobe Bryant.

So much for those haters claiming “Kobe doesn’t make his teammates better.”

Just because you throw someone a pass, and they score, it doesn't mean you made them a better player.

by LakerUNLTD on Aug 26, 2010 9:32 AM PDT reply actions

I think KD made Pau Gasol no. 1 because of Kobe Bryant...

Because, the nature of KD is to down Kobe as much chance as he can without appearing to be (too much) biased (though, he fails a lot to pretend not to be biased). Thus, by making Gasol number one, by KD’s psyche, he is actually indirectly saying that Pau is the better Laker and any success of the Lakers is more because of Gasol. Sure, he can see that Pau is awesome but his motivation here is to have another chance of downing Kobe. (Remember his list of best players of the playoffs? Pau is number one. It’s not completely a compliment to Pau but another chance to discount Kobe)

Right now Pau is better than Duncan but I dont know if Pau

will ever be as good as Duncan was when he was performing at his best. Even now if the Lakers had Duncan instead of Pau they wouldn’t play much different and dare I say maybe even better.

" Kobe on Shaq being a leader

by Jelly Bean on Aug 26, 2010 9:55 AM PDT reply actions

Well, Duncan from '99-'07 is arguably the best four to ever play the game

If you put Kobe and Duncan in his prime together, that team would be practically unstoppable. Sure, Gasol is definitely up there in the pantheon of great fours, but Duncan was an absolute monster on both ends in his prime. As of right now, I’d say they’re roughly about equal, with Gasol’s greater mobility on defense countered by Duncan’s superior post defense. I’d definitely take Gasol right now though — Duncan is only going to slip in the coming years while Gasol has quite a few years of high production ahead of him.

I agree and what is most surprising in regards to your comment that...
As of right now, I’d say they’re roughly about equal,

is that Duncan is 5 years older and has more mileage.

I don't think Pau will ever be as good as Duncan was

But we are definitely better with Pau now. A Bynum-Duncan frontcourt would be good if healthy but that a monumental if. Duncan’s knees could compete with Bynum’s for most likely to fail at this point of his career.

those 3 are very hard to compete with. even with a healthy bynum, pau gasol and ron artest – u are still a ways off.

As a Filipino, I find Manila Bulletin badly edited

I mean, I picked up an issue of that paper years ago, and found several typos in it. I mean I can forgive one typo in an issue, but SEVERAL in one issue is just very poor proofreading.

so, no wonder they also got facts wrong, when they can’t even correct spellings.

The Philippine Star, on the other hand, is probably the best newspaper in our country. And, oh, the country’s best sports analyst (he also used to blog for NBA.com) writes in it.

Yea Pau

although, to be honest, I’m not taking anything KD writes any seriously. The guy is so unbelievably biassed against the Lakers. He tries to make arguments that Kobe isn’t even the best player at his position, let alone the league. D-Fish didn’t even crack the top 30 in his PG list. So I don’t care much for these lists.

Although I agree that Gasol is one of the best PFs in the league. I’d probably put Dirk ahead of him, but thats all.

It’s a fair prediction. I wouldn’t bet against Durant in the next ten years, but Wall’s insane athletic ability and solid floor vision make a solid case. The hype exists for a reason — he’s probably one of the best prospects of the past decade and to speculate that he’ll be great in the next ten years isn’t that big of a leap of faith.

Sure, he could flame out and be a huge bust

That’s certainly possible. It’s also possible that he’ll be really, really good, so the two voters that deigned to say he’ll be the best player of the next decade have a case behind them. Their argument isn’t entirely “hype” — it’s a valid one. I don’t agree with it, but I’ll give credit to their line of thought.

To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.

Michael Beasley?

I don’t see it. Miami is on crack for giving him up, and the fact that teams weren’t clammoring to trade for him is apalling, especially the Phoenix Suns. Hardly a bust. Not even close. Weed or no weed, Beasley has been productive, though he should be a better rebounder.

Well, Beasley was the difference

Between them having two max stars or three, so he was expendable from that point of view. That said, you’re right that more teams should have been interested in him. He would have been especially good in Phoenix’s offense.

atleast they are talkign about someone besides "he-who-shall-not-be-named"

he-who-shall-not-be-named still got most of the votes though

i say kobe wins a couple more, then durant takes the throne. OKC vs. Chicago finals sometime in the future.

Long before there was LBJ, there was another physically talented power forward prowling the hardwood.

This is a great video of one of my favorite players, Chuck, King Charles, Turrible, however you know him, meet him again here. He loved the game, and was AWESOME!
