You tell 'em Ronny!
Just because you throw someone a pass, and they score, it doesn't mean you made them a better player.
One suggestion: make all the links open in a separate window. Clicking back is a bitch.

Was Shaq’s trade really that painful? Does it really deserves a spot?

yeah
but I was really disappointed not because Shaq left, but because they just blew up the team that went to 4 Finals during the past 5 years, and won three of them in a row.
much better explanation...
my sentiments back then…
but we know we can’t keep both kobe and shaq back then… it’s either kobe or shaq… so when the lakers pick kobe, it was really not that big deal…

Not a big deal...
LOL, it was a huge deal!
Just because you throw someone a pass, and they score, it doesn't mean you made them a better player.
well, would you rather have shaq instead of kobe?
yeah, losing shaq was probably a big deal since it symbolizes an end of an era (but only in that sense. besides, 2004 Finals also symbolized that already, so no need to add shaq’s leaving to the list. maybe just make it a “postscript” in that 2004 Finals part. if this is so, another item for shaq’s leaving is redundant)… but it was a matter of choosing kobe or shaq. it doesn’t mean i want shaq to go, but we don’t have a choice anymore. it’s either shaq or kobe. i rather have kobe. and i was satisfied that the lakers chose him. so, i was not really that affected when shaq left. not really a heartbreak…

it's easy to say that in hindsight
obviously, kobe was the better choice. but it for most laker fans, shaq leaving was huge. i loved shaq back in the day, him leaving was heartbreaking. at least for me, maybe i’m lame…
3 Heat can't stop the 3peat.
well, we all have different feelings about it...
i got mine… you got yours… i was just wondering what the majority feels about “shaq leaving” on that list…

You said it was no big deal... this isn't about picking Shaq or Kobe..
its about Shaq leaving, and that was a huge deal back then. You’re making it seem like it was just an ordinary trade or something, when it was the largest superstar in the game back then changing teams, and the balance of the NBA, bringing a title to Miami.
Just because you throw someone a pass, and they score, it doesn't mean you made them a better player.
again...
i said that if one sees shaq’s leaving as the symbol of the era, it is definitely a big deal… but the loss on Detroit already established that… then there’s one with phil (phil i can understand)…
besides, shaq was already acting douchey back then, and i tended to side with kobe when the conflict started. i really like the kobe-shaq duo to win again, but the ego war is just too distracting. it was not working anymore. one has to go. maybe i was a numbed of shaq’s leaving because of the relief that i felt back then when i learned it was kobe that was being kept. i was just being practical.
so, i see that a lot indeed got hurt by shaq’s departure to miami..

I felt I got robbed when Shaq left.
2003-04 was the first season I followed the Lakers diligently, I always checked the net for news and read Steve Kerr’s Y! column every chance I got, and thank God for us finally having the NBA on TV via cable. Then Deeeettrrriottttt Basssskeettttbaaalllll happened. For me, that series even worse than the 2008 Finals because LA was heavily favored that year and nobody gave the Pistons a chance, I didn’t even know back then that they were a great team. Then Shaq was gone. Enter the dark era of Lakers basketball. It was really a huge deal, man.

i love that the dark era for the Laker organization
is making the playoffs as a 7th and 8th seed. while any other organization would just be happy to make the playoffs. its finals or bust for the lakers.

that article kinda ruined my day
and yes, shaq leaving was that painful! it deserves to be ranked even higher. it turned out to be a blessing in disguise looking back, but back then it was horrible.
3 Heat can't stop the 3peat.
I. Love. Artest. and the Nike Kobe Vs
Also the article about Kobe’s kicks are pretty nice. Left out some nice ones though (bruce lees, dark knights!) I would probably sacrifice one of these kittens you guys like so much for a pair of those Jordan III Kobe player exclusives
So, when Jordan returned to the Chicago Bulls late in the 94-95 season—at 32—he’d played only 778 NBA regular season and playoff games. By comparison, Kobe Bryant has already played a whopping 1,219 games, 57% more than Jordan at the same age. Kobe is clearly the NBA version of a Ferrari with high mileage.
Wow. I never knew Kobe had played THAT many games. Shit.
Billy Mac: "Lamar, can you see yourself actually getting in the (boxing) ring"?
Lamar Odom: "No. My face is too pretty."
he is really getting up there
it’s crazy how good he is after so many games played.
3 Heat can't stop the 3peat.
well, Bruce Wayne had been Batman even when he was 50
and since Kobe is the Batman of the NBA… hopefully, he’ll be okay

Well, something to think about, Kobe wasn't a starter right away.
1996-1997: Games played 71, Games started 6, Minutes Per Game: 15.5
1997-1998: Games played 79, Games started 1, Minutes Per Game: 26.0
That’s 150 games in the first two years where he played in a very limited roll.
1998-1999: Games played 50, Games Started 50, Minutes Per Game: 37.9
Shortened season, but we go to 200 games in the first 3 seasons averaging 26.4 minutes per game. Add in the playoffs for those three years at 28 total games played with an average of 23.8 minutes played. We’re looking at 228 games in the first 3 years.
Point of the post?
The point is Kobe has put in quite a few more games than Jordan, 441 in fact. But he played 51% of those games before he was 21 years old. The other games? Chalk them up to getting to the finals more than Jordan, playing longer series than Jordan (no more 5 game series), and not taking breaks.
Yes, Kobe has put the miles on, but… he’s in great shape, and has many more to go.

about kevin garnett
I still know that he’s the best all-around player of his generation. Better than Duncan, better than Kobe, better than Shaq. In the era after Bird and before LeBron, nobody put it all together like K.G.
Enjoy him, please, in 2010-11.
