Rough Cut: Getting to know your fellow SSR-ers
[Sorry if this comes across as unoriginal, Ive been meaning to make a fanpost on something, but I have been dry on ideas.]
I am sure this has been done before in the past but since this blog has grown so much since I came here last May, I and Bernel (thanks Bernel for the idea) thought we should try it again. Basically, you talk a little bit about yourself/ how you became a Laker fan, and etc. I think its a great idea that will help you get to know a little about your fellow posters as well as their unique backgrounds. It doesn't have to be super lengthy, though detail is appreciated.
Below is what the format looks like and if you want to see an example, click here.

There are basic Fundamentals that are needed to move forward in this game. Always keep your guard up at all times to avoid being caught in a trap. Overcome the fouls that will be committed against you REBOUND AND PRESS ON. ADJUST to the Limelight: ALL-STAR PLAYERS ARE ALWAYS THE CENTER OF ATTENTION. Know what your role is and play your position. Find a game plan and execute it. REMEMBER YOU ONLY GET OUT OF THE GAME WHAT YOU PUT INTO IT.
Fuck it if he can't hang with the big boys and girls.

Screen name: LakersFoEva
Real name (optional): People call me several things, none of which I care to repeat.
Occupation: Currently reading every commment on SS&R for free. Trying to work out a deal with CA Clark or Dexter Fishmore to earn some of their million dollar salary this way.
Age: 25.
Gender: Male. Even though the name Eva is in my profile name.
Hometown: Harbor City, California.
Story behind your screen name: Depending on which story you like better, it can either be LakersFoEva = Lakers for ever which basicaly means Lakers fan for life or it can mean LakersFo Eva = Lakers for Eva. I have no idea who Eva is, but if you like that story, stick with it. To me, Eva is the lady who boss hogs all the cookies that BXF teases SCG with.
How you became a Lakers fan: Born into it. Literally. I was deliverd on the Great Western Forum floor by the man, the myth, the legend, Mitch Kupchak himself. The entire 1984 roster was there to witness my birth. My mom was a personal assistant to Magic Johnson at the time and happened to be on the court when her water broke. I came into this world at center court. Funny thing is, im now 6’6" and pretty dark skinned for having two white parents, and my dad is 5’7". My mom says I stole all of his good genes.
Favorite Lakers memory of all time and of the 2009-2010 season: Sitting courtside for game 7 of the 1988 Finals. Now that I think about it, I dont know how my parents could afford those tickets. I mean, my dad didnt go to save money, but two courtside tickets would have still been alot of money. Sitting next to Jack was a once in a lifetime experience though.
This season’s favorite memory would have had to of been when Adam Morrison stole a high five from Tim Thomas, intended for Kris Humphries, during the Lakers bashing of the Mavs. The all-seeing and all-knowing Ammo was able to pull off a stunt nobody else in the NBA has ever attempted. People were in awe and that play was talked about for many weeks at SS&R.
Most heartbreaking Lakers experience: The day my fath, uummmm……. i mean Magic Johnson retired. Sad day for the NBA. my mom was crying hysterically, while my dad was punching holes into walls all day. My house was in shambles that day.
Favorite Lakers player: My mom has always bought me Magic Johnson posters and stuff, but my favorite Laker of all time was Dennis Rodman, even though he only played with the Lakers for 1 season. Currently, my favorite Laker is Derek Fisher. Maybe that just because I have an authentic, signed Derek Fisher jersey hanging up in my closet. I have a couple Magic Johnson ones as well, but my dad has those store away in the attic for safe keeping…………
Greatest all-time Laker: Kobe Bryant. Without a doubt. My mom and I get into this argument all the time, but i keep telling her Kobe is better than Magic. I keep telling her that if Magic hadnt of gotten aids and retired, he could of done more things for the Lakers and I might consider him the greatest, but he isnt in my mind. She always gets upset when i say this, and starts to cry while leaving the room. I just dont get it.
Last time you went to a game at Staples Center and/or at the Forum: I get to go all the time. Because of what happened during my birth and the fact that my mom was forced to deliver me on the Forum floor, we got lifetime tickets to Lakers games. Its totally awesome. We have really good seats. We even get to sit next to Magic Johnson when he comes to the games. His season seats are right next to ours!!!!!! He even buys us food and souvenirs most of the time. It must be nice to be that wealthy.
Opposing team, player you dislike the most: Anybody in a Celtic jersey. That now includes you Shaq.
Interactions with Lakers players: As I said in my previous posts, i get to go to alot of games and sit next to Magic Johnson. My mom and I go all the time. My dad doesnt go as he says he has to work, but I still have fun, even though my dad isnt there……….
Most cherished piece of Lakers memorabilia you have: All my Magic Johnson signed memorabilia that my dad has stuffed into boxes and put up into the corner of the attic. He says he doesnt like to look at it because it reminds him of Magic’s retirement and the championships we missed out on because of his retirement.

but seriously, that is awesome.
Adam Morrison has more rings than Lebron, Bosh, and Wade combined?
i guess it didnt come across very well (AT ALL), but the whole thing was a joke.
the only thing that was the truth was my age and my hometown, lol.
during the whole posting, im trying to hint that my dad is secretly magic johnson, instead of my real dad, but i guess i failed at humor.

but now that you mention it, he does come into my house and shit on my carpet 30 to 40 fucking times and manages to piss 8 times a night… and this one time he went to shit, failed and only farted but the big crazy ass neighbor cat ran right up behind him and dropped a turd right where he was aiming…true story. now I have to get a dog named Raja.

ah, i see. my bad.
it’s my first time to hear of “cum laude” being used in high school. so, it’s possible in the US, eh?
in my country, there are no schools that give “cum laude” honors to high school graduates. one can’t graduate with honors in high school by means of a required academic average. so, we don’t have graduating “cum laude” in high school. Only, the top ten of the batch are given honors (valedictorian, salutatorian, and academic distinctions to the rest of the ten) in a high school graduation.

How you became a Lakers fan: I grew up in the 80’s with Prime Ticket on the cable…Showtime baby!
Favorite Lakers memory of all time and of the 2009-2010 season: This season had to be the best, winning it all in game 7 against the Celtics at home to repeat. Amazing. The moment had to be Kobe running down the ball at the end, so much joy in that smile.
Most heartbreaking Lakers experience: Magic’s Announcement, probably will be my worst sports moment ever, as this had to do with the life of my idol growing up. Thank you God he’s thrived.
Favorite Lakers player: Kobe
Greatest all-time Laker: Magic, the guy really did it all.
Last time you went to a game at Staples Center and/or at the Forum: Only was able to see an L.A. Kings game 8 years ago @ Staples. Saw them play the Warriors a few times in Oakland.
Opposing team, player you dislike the most: Paul Pierce
Interactions with Lakers players: Saw Magic talking to couple of people outside of Pauley Pavilion on the way home from class once. I had to do a double take to make sure it was him, I was in awe.
Most cherished piece of Lakers memorabilia you have: My son’s toddler size KB 8 jersey.
Memorable stories about being a Lakers fan: Went to a Laker game in Oakland about 12 years ago. The Shaq T’d out in the 1st half and the team pretty much stunk and fell behind by 30 points at one point. Behind Kobe, they came back to tie it with a tip in at the buzzer (and eventually win it in overtime). After the tip in to tie it, the Oakland Arena became L.A. Forum North as chants of Ko-be Ko-be Ko-be killed all the Beat L.A. chants.

I cried that day. Not because my favorite athlete ever was retiring, but because I thought he would be dead in five years. It’s what we knew back then.
I think it’s impossible to be at least 30 y.o. and that not be the most heartbreaking Lakers moment. Seems so, from reading these lists.

all time would probably be this years championship. Best memory of 09/10 was goin to the laker game at staples against the wizards, i was sitting maybe 4 rows away from the floor seats, and i just remember the game being kinda close in the 2nd quarter, than kobe just came down. hit 2 threes and a jumper and that pretty much ended the game. i was thinkin damn this guy is good.

here we go
Screen name: Brian Tung (originally BrianTung, without the space)
Real name (optional): stunningly, Brian Tung
Occupation: Computer science
Age: What do you get if you multiply 6 by 9? (And I ain’t 54. Not yet, anyway.)
Gender: Why yes! Oh wait, that joke doesn’t work with “gender.” Male.
Hometown: Born in L.A. Grew up in San Francisco Bay Area. Live in Santa Monica.
Story behind your screen name: Actually, I guess “Brian” is a chosen name; I got tired of repeating my Chinese name, so I picked Brian for when I entered college.
How you became a Lakers fan: Since I grew up in the Bay Area, I started out as a Warriors fan. Even watched them play against the Kings back when they were based in Kansas City (I think). ‘Round about 1987, I started following the Lakers—good time for it, I suppose—and by 1990, my loyalties were split about 50-50. Hanging around Lakers fans probably didn’t hurt that. And I’ve been a Lakers fan more or less exclusively since about 1993.
Favorite Lakers memory of all time and of the 2009-2010 season: Of all time: (tie) Horry’s game-winning trey at the end of Game 4 against Sacramento in 2002; and basically the entire fourth quarter of Game 7 against the Trailblazers in 2000. 2009-2010: Regular season would be Kobe’s buzzer-beating shot against the Heat; playoffs would be Kobe running down Odom’s jubilant pass to nowhere at the end of Game 7 against the Celtics.
Most heartbreaking Lakers experience: Kwame Brown running past Tim Thomas at the end of Game 6 against the Suns in 2006. (I was prepared for a debacle against the Pistons in 2004, and sure enough, I got it.)
Favorite Lakers player: Kobe, hands down. Basketball for him is an art and a passion for him as for no one else playing in the League today. You get the feeling that bad basketball offends his sensibilities as much as anything else.
Greatest all-time Laker: Magic, who lived up to his nickname and played the game with a joie de vivre that will never be duplicated.
Last time you went to a game at Staples Center and/or at the Forum: January 19, 2009 against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Lakers win 105-88, punctuated early on by one of Kobe’s harsher finger injuries, as I recall.
Opposing team, player you dislike the most: I don’t really dislike any of them—even the Celtics—on any ongoing basis. But I must admit I enjoyed watching the Lakers beat the Celtics more than I would have against any other team, so I guess that counts. Definitely don’t feel animosity toward any particular player, although I do remember disliking Laimbeer back in the day.
Interactions with Lakers players: I don’t think I’ve interacted with any. Would have been a minor bit player if I have.
Most cherished piece of Lakers memorabilia you have: I only have one, really: a Chevron victory wagon in Lakers colors. Bought it in 2008, and had to wait a year to show it off.
Memorable stories about being a Lakers fan: Nothing I’d waste precious SSR time with.
Lakers memories are never wasted.

Screen name: RudeMood19
Real name (optional): Adrian
Occupation: Student at the University of Toronto, heading into 3rd year
Age: 20
Gender: Male
Hometown: Mississauga, Ontario, Canada
Story behind your screen name: Rude Mood is an excellent, up-tempo, bluesy song by my favourite guitarist of all time, Stevie Ray Vaughan.
How you became a Lakers fan: Even though I don’t live anywhere near LA, I’m not a bandwagon fan by any stretch. My dad liked the Lakers all through the 80s when they were awesome and during the 1990s when they were good but not quite good enough. As such, he brought me up to be a Lakers fan too. The farthest I remember back is when Del Harris was coaching the team and they lost to Utah in the playoffs in 1998.
Favorite Lakers memory of all time and of the 2009-2010 season:
This is a tough one.
All-Time: I have 5 favourite memories/games, listed in chronological order.
1. Game 7 WCF 2000 Kobe ally-oop to Shaq.
2. Game 4 WCF 2002 Horry 3 pointer.
3. Game 7 WCF 2002
4. Game 5 2004 Fisher’s 0.4
5. Game 7 2010
2009-2010
- Kobe’s game winners
- Gasol’s game-winner vs OKC in Game 6
- Artest’s game-winner vs Phx in game 5
- Kobe taking over the game in Phy in game 6
- Fisher’s 4th quarter heroics in game 4 vs Boston
- All of game 7 – it was such a rollercoaster capped off by Artest’s dagger 3
Most heartbreaking Lakers experience: The loss to Detroit in 2004. To me, it hurts more than the loss to the Celtics in 2008.
Favorite Lakers player: Kobe Bryant
Greatest all-time Laker: Kobe Bryant
Last time you went to a game at Staples Center and/or at the Forum: I live in Toronto so I’ve never been. One day though…one day…
Opposing team, player you dislike the most: I hate the Celtics the most, followed by the Heat and I still hate the Kings even after all these years. I don’t like the Spurs very much but I respect them. The five players I would say I hate the most are: Paul Pierce, KG, Lebron, Bosh, JR Smith.
Interactions with Lakers players: None.
Most cherished piece of Lakers memorabilia you have: No memorabilia per se, but I do have a few memorable games of the Lakers saved which I like since it reminds me of when I watched the games albeit much younger.
Memorable stories about being a Lakers fan: My dad and I going ecstatic whenever the Lakers did something amazing when I was growing up. For example, when Horry hit that 3 pointer in 2002 against the Kings, my dad and I jumped out of our seats and started jumping up and down and shouting. It was great. Another cherished one was in 2004 against the Spurs with Fisher’s 0.4 shot. Since the game was on later here in Canada due to the time differential, my dad woke up me from my sleep and told me to watch what had just happened. I couldn’t believe it and he was just as shocked as I was, even after seeing several replays. Again, it’s really too bad they lost in 2004. This year’s game 7 win against the Celtics was great too, especially Artest’s 3 point dagger near the end. I definitely woke up the neighbours on that one.
What is the nature of your thoughts, gentlemen, when you say "fuddle duddle" or something like that?
Screen name: nyyrocks29
Real name (optional): Chris
Occupation: Sofeware Engineer
Age: 24
Gender: I’m a dude
Hometown: Rochester NY, although I currently live in NYC
Story behind your screen name: It was baseball season, and I got tired of all the shit posted on Yahoo websites and I got tired of commenting there. Pinstripe Alley (the NYY website) was attached to the Yankees Yahoo homepage, so I went and created an account. At the time I wasn’t aware that SB Nation was a complete sports community, I thought it was just a Yankees website (I was new to the site, sorry). So I gave myself a Yankee related name. The number at the end is simply a random number I put there, but if the Yanks win one more World Championship this year it will make sense.
How you became a Lakers fan: I was 7 years old and I visited my cousin in San Francisco, who was very into basketball and was a Lakers fan. His dad, my uncle, was also a huge Lakers fan. Basketball runs in my family even more than baseball does so I was already interested in basketball. My uncle took me to a Lakers game that they won (against the Clippers), and I was so impressed with the game and the Arena that I became a Lakers fan that day. First impressions usually last a long time, and I’ve been a Lakers fan ever since.
Favorite Lakers memory of all time and of the 2009-2010 season: Derek Fisher’s charge passed the Celtics in Game 3, and then getting tackled by three different Celtics and still making it. That was gorgeous. Either that, or Shannon Brown’s slam in Game 6 that charged up Staples Center. Probably Fish’s play though since it was much bigger- SB’s dunk was icing on the cake in a blowout.
Most heartbreaking Lakers experience: 2008 loss to Celtics
Favorite Lakers player: Kobe Bryant
Greatest all-time Laker: Magic Johnson
Last time you went to a game at Staples Center and/or at the Forum: I haven’t been to a game since my first game when I was seven. I’ve seen the Lakers play the Knicks at MSG and the Nets, and I’ve even seen them play the Raptors up in Toronto. But I haven’t been up to
Opposing team, player you dislike the most: Boston Celtics, LeBron James
Interactions with Lakers players: None, unfortunately
Most cherished piece of Lakers memorabilia you have: I have a hat, but the most cherished ones were three Lakers items in my room growing up. It was always split between Yankee stuff and Lakers stuff and a few Giants things (I’m a Giants fan too, technically, but I’m not as much into Football), and I had a huge picture of Magic Johnson, a big Lakers flag, and my hat in the room. I grew up with those in my room all the time, so those are what I cherish. I have a fathead of Kobe Bryant right now in my apartment too.
Memorable stories about being a Lakers fan: Like I said, the first game I went to that made me a Lakers fan. I don’t have that many memorable stories since I haven’t been to many games. I’m hoping to go to a game or two this year at Staples (which will be my first time at Staples Center ever), so hopefully I’ll get some memorable stories this year
"I'll do whatever it takes to win games, whether it's sitting on a bench waving a towel, handing a cup of water to a teammate, or hitting the game-winning shot"-Kobe Bryant
oh and for all time
D-Fish’s 0.4 shot. lol Fish dominates my favorite Lakers moments, but it just shows he comes through when it matters.
"I'll do whatever it takes to win games, whether it's sitting on a bench waving a towel, handing a cup of water to a teammate, or hitting the game-winning shot"-Kobe Bryant
Screen name: Ben R
Real name (optional): To the surprise of everyone, Ben.
Occupation: Third year student at Princeton University.
Age: 19
Gender: Male.
Hometown: Villa Park, CA.
Story behind your screen name: Made an account with my Yahoo! ID, so I got “Ben R” by default. Exciting, I know.
How you became a Lakers fan: My parents were fans going back to the days of Magic and Kareem (in which, in the fashion of Lakers fans everywhere, watched a muted TV with Chick’s voice on the radio), although I watched the Bulls a lot while growing up and started following the Lakers after they signed Phil.
Favorite Lakers memory of all time and of the 2009-2010 season: All-time are likely clips of the Magic skyhook that I first saw when I was small. For last season, obviously besides winning the title again, it was likely Artest’s game winner against Phoenix due to the instant redemption it provided. Epic drama.
Most heartbreaking Lakers experience: When Shaq left. I knew it was coming and it was still jarring.
Favorite Lakers player: Pau Gasol.
Greatest all-time Laker: Magic Johnson.
Last time you went to a game at Staples Center and/or at the Forum: The New Years’ game against the Kings in which Kobe won the game at the buzzer. Made up for the Lakers getting outworked the rest of the game several times over.
Opposing team, player you dislike the most: Besides the Kings in the early 2000s, I didn’t really hate another team until LeBron started showboating in Cleveland, and naturally, I feel nothing but contempt for the current Heat team.
Interactions with Lakers players: Practically none.
Most cherished piece of Lakers memorabilia you have: My Lakers beanie that I wear when it gets cold during winter on the East Coast.
Memorable stories about being a Lakers fan: The Kings game I went to with my sister was her first time ever at a professional sports game, which made it downright awesome when we left on a high after Kobe sank the game winner.

good luck. I’m trying to get into one of those two UC’s as well, but as a transfer. If I can offer you one important tip it is to CAREFULLY review all the financial packages you get from the schools you got accepted to. You want to avoid accumulating too much debt with those student loans otherwise you will have a boat load of trouble going to grad school, getting a house, and etc. I didnt do that and now I have to go to CC for two years at the least.

awww that sucks! are you already registered? yeah in all my classes so far theres been hella people trying to add
especially in my psychology class, it makes me feel kinda bad. when do classes start for you?
I got Wheaties!!!
next week
I already registered as a student. it was really a standby in case things didnt work out with my initial school of choice but I didnt bother to register for the specific classes which was an obviously huge mistake. Im gonna have to kick things into overdrive in the spring since fall will be extremely unproductive.
Adam Morrison has more rings than Lebron, Bosh, and Wade combined?
well im not sure about your school but at mine if you go the first day..
And show up to a class you want and someone who’s already registered for that class doesn’t show up you can take that persons spot. But its better to try to get on the waitlist before you show up since they have priority. Check and see what classes are still open or maybe try to get on the waitlist for the classes you want. Hopefully you can get at least a few classes!
I got Wheaties!!!
yeah
thats what my counselors said too. Im gonna try that out and see if I get lucky by chance. At least for Winter/ Spring semester I will register early so this doesnt happen again and I can get as much classes as possible.
Adam Morrison has more rings than Lebron, Bosh, and Wade combined?
yup definitely try it. whats the worse that could happen?
But whatever you do make sure you get to the classes on time or even early so you have a better chance of getting in. That’s how I got all my classes my first semester and I barely got in lol. There’s usually at least one person who doesn’t show up so good luck!!! :)

So far, so good, but this NoScript bugs the shit out of me. Don't like at all.
I don’t know how to thank you. I certainly did not want to shell out all that dough or buy a new computer.

Yea, make sure to "allow" all your regular sites. It's a hassle at first, but it gets better.
Don’t worry ‘bout that, just another person I’m glad to have helped.

Story behind your screen name: Birth year and last name.
How you became a Lakers fan: Here.
Favorite Lakers memory of all time and of the 2009-2010 season:
My favorite Laker memory was (finally!) beating the Celtics in the 1985 Finals, and then going to school the next day- I was a senior- to get my revenge on all those shit-talkers.
From this year it was pouring beer over the head of my 11-year old niece Nikkole- and newest member to the Laker family- just after the clock ticked 0:00 on the repeat.
Most heartbreaking Lakers experience: Magic’s retirement.
Favorite Lakers player: Man, this is tough, but it has to be Magic, with Kareem and Kobe tied for second.
Greatest all-time Laker: See previous response.
Last time you went to a game at Staples Center and/or at the Forum: I sat in the nose-bleeds for two games in 2003. And I’m dying to go back.
Opposing team, player you dislike the most: I reserve my deepest hate for the Celtics.
Interactions with Lakers players: Back in 1987, when the Lakers were playing in Oakland, me and my best friend went to their hotel to get autographs. The guys- A.C. Green, Byron, Coop, and Worthy- were great with us. Magic wasn’t around- he was out partying, naturally.
The next (early) morning, I waited for Kareem and Magic. The Big Fella came out first, and I managed a meek, "Kareem", and got up to greet him. Coming off a lousy (for him) game, he was in no mood, and he snapped at me, "Don’t you guys ever sleep?" I didn’t like it then, but I love it now.
Later we caught up to Magic, who had gone out a side door. I called out to him, "Buck". And he stopped, signed, and shook my hand. All with his eyes barely open after a night on the town.
Most cherished piece of Lakers memorabilia you have: I honestly don’t have a whole lot, which sucks, but I do own a few video cassettes of their championship seasons. I break ‘em out every once in a while. Oh, and there’s that Laker Girl in my dungeon. Does that count as memorabilia though?
Memorable stories about being a Lakers fan: There’s just nothing like getting together with the small group of Laker fans here at home and celebrating championships with a little bubbly. Never. Gets. Old.
I'm here to talk about the past.

Screen name: ZeroIndulgence
Real name (optional): Patrick
Occupation: Project Controls
Age: 26 years, 11 months (I’m getting old)
Gender: Male
Hometown: San Jose, CA
Story behind your screen name: It’s one I’ve been using for at least 10 years…I have long since forgotten how I came up with it. But yeah, I use it as my screenname for most everything online these days.
How you became a Lakers fan: Even though I was born, raised, and have never lived anywhere but the Bay Area (save for four years near Sacramento for college), my dad grew up in the LA area, and as such, grew up as a Lakers fan. That wisdom was imparted on me. And being as I live in Warriors territory, I was never really tempted to jump ship!
Favorite Lakers memory of all time and of the 2009-2010 season: I was really excited in 1996 when we signed Shaq, because he was a mega star at the time, and the Lakers hadn’t been very good for a while. 2000’s title was one of the earliest memories I have of really getting to cheer on a Lakers Championship team…and that was very very sweet. That season really cemented my Lakers fandom as my own, and more than just a “I’m a Lakers fan because my dad is” thing.
This year, my single most favorite moment of the season was with 6 minutes 12 seconds left in Game 7 of the NBA Finals, Derek Fisher flexed his Intangibles and drained a 3 to tie up the game. After such a miserable night watching Kobe struggle and the Celtics leading almost all night, this shot was huge…HUGE! So awesome, I lept out of my chair and couldn’t sit down the rest of the game (I had been doing pretty well until that point of staying calm). That was just an awesome moment. The moment of “hey, WE CAN STILL DO THIS!”
Most heartbreaking Lakers experience: 2008 just killed me. That was really the first Lakers-Celtics finals I was fully cognizant of, invested in personally, and felt let down by (I was 1 the last time the Lakers lost the title to the Celtics…not really aware of it, lol). Made this year really, really sweet.
Favorite Lakers player: Currently, I’m a big Kobe fan, obviously. But I’m also a fan of the Matt Barnes signing. He was fun to watch when he was playing up here for the Warriors in 2007. And I was a huge Shaq fan when he signed here. His Boston signing hurts.
Greatest all-time Laker: Magic, hands down. Although Kobe is getting close.
Last time you went to a game at Staples Center and/or at the Forum: Never been. I’m not particularly wealthy, lol…
Opposing team, player you dislike the most: As any true Lakers fan will tell you, I have the upmost contempt for the Boston Celtics. Currently, KG really irritates me. Probably him or Glen Davis the most. Have never been a real big fan of the Pistons either, and Rasheed Wallace has always irritated me too.
Interactions with Lakers players: Never met any personally.
Most cherished piece of Lakers memorabilia you have: Signed Magic Johnson photo I picked up at a sports memorabilia auction one time a few years back. Pretty awesome.
Memorable stories about being a Lakers fan: My freshman year of college was 2002, in Davis (10 minutes from Sacramento). That was the year of the amazing Western Conference Finals against the Kings…and I was surrounded by Kings fans. Getting to hear the bitching first hand after Game 6, and the joy of running up and down the dorm halls after Horry’s shot in Game 5. It was just really, really awesome to be over there and getting to represent for the Lakers in the heart of Kings country.
Z!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Haha
I have the same story, but in Fresno instead of Davis.
What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. Hometown: Los Angeles, CA.
Story behind your screen name: Self-explanatory.
How you became a Lakers fan: It’s in my blood.
Favorite Lakers memory of all time and of the 2009-2010 season:
All-time: my high school band marching in the championship parade through Downtown L.A. after the 1980 Finals, right in front of the Lakers float (they did it differently back then)
From 2010: Kobe’s game-winner over Dwyane Wade. I went to bed that night thinking about that shot, and I woke up the next morning thinking about that shot. I still get chills.
Most heartbreaking Lakers experience: Magic’s retirement.
Favorite Lakers player: Kobe
Greatest all-time Laker: Magic and Kobe tied
Last time you went to a game at Staples Center and/or at the Forum: I took my mom for her birthday to see the Jazz in April. Great seats, great crowd, lots of fun. I went to more games when they played at the Forum because I had an aunt who lived across the street. Tickets were cheap so even kids were buying them.
Opposing team, player you dislike the most: I have always and will always hate the Celtics, no matter who is wearin’ the Green. I’ve also always disliked he-who-must-not-be-named, ever since 2003.
Interactions with Lakers players: I once worked at an ad agency and one of our creative directors knew Byron Scott. He asked him to come in and meet some of his co-workers and I was there when he arrived. He wasn’t playing any more, but it was an absolute thrill. He signed autographs for my and my mom; she had hers framed.
Most cherished piece of Lakers memorabilia you have: I bought a #8 jersey during the 2000-20001 season. I wear it all the time at home. I also have a pennant listing the 3 championships from 2000-2002. I keep it over my desk at work.
Memorable stories about being a Lakers fan: Just knowing that I root for one of the greatest teams in sports history, through good times and bad, and they rarely let me down.

Real Name : Caleb
Occupation: College
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Hometown: Miami, Florida
Story Behind the Screen Name: Miami Dolphins are my favorite team. End of story.
How you became a Laker fan: Well growing up Shaq was my favorite player behind MJ. I mean he broke a backboard and as 6 year old that’s all the reason I needed. Sometime during that first season of Shaq being a Laker, ESPN classic was showing some “Showtime” highlights and then they showed the sky hook and i was …. hooked (sorry).
Favorite Lakers memory: Divac’s assist to Horry in Game 4 of 02’ WCF.
Most Heartbreaking: At the time, the 04 Finals and the fallout. Now the 08 Finals, would be nice to be going for a 4 peat this year.
Favorite Lakers Player: Kobe Bryant
Greatest All-Time Lakers Player: Kobe Magic-Jabar
Last Time You Went to a game at Staples: … Never :(, but hopefully that will change in Feb/March.
Opposing Team, player you dislike the most: Paul Pierce and the Celtics, but Prince James and Wade’s Heat are by far the most annoying to me.
Interactions with Lakers player: Saw Rick Fox last summer at a club in Miami, threw up the LA sign and he smiled and pointed at me.
Most cherished piece of Lakers memorabilia: Technically its not mine but it will be once I buy a house (Long story), an autographed Kobe Bryant rookie card and a mini basketball.
Memorable Story about being a Lakers fan: Watching Game 7 at a bar full of Lakers fans and then bar hopping with like 20 of them after the game finding as many Celtic fans to remind them what just happened.

hey. not much has been said of vlade divac on this blog. most seem to remember him for being the bait that reeled in kobe, but i have good memories of his game. a good center.
"the man who created a legend; the legend who resurrected a franchise."
he was definitely a great center
averaging 12.5 points & 8.6 rebounds a game during the 7 years he was with LA, and he played especially well in the 1991 finals. but i think most people would agree helping in the kobe trade and assisting horry’s game-winning three were the most helpful things he’s done for the laker organization.
3 Heat can't stop the 3peat.

True story....
I have a buddy who’s last name is Steele. He named his kid Remington.
Really. Luckily everyone calls him Remy and I am sure none of his friends have ever heard of the show.
Billy Mac: "Lamar, can you see yourself actually getting in the (boxing) ring"?
Lamar Odom: "No. My face is too pretty."
being named after remington steele is badass, though
much better if it’s after James Bond.
Here are some true stories I encountered about names… (from my blog)
Our stat prof told us about a former student who had Becile as surname, and a middle initial of M, and therefore goes, M. Becile. There was also another former student of his with the surname Moron, and the name of Alexander. Alex was an excellent varsity runner, and he was nicknamed "Alexander the Great" after the famous Macedonian conqueror of the past. But my prof, ever playful, told Alex, "You may be a great runner. But to me, you are still Alexander The Great Moron." I also have a schoolmate of mine, my junior, in high school, whose surname was being joked about in our clique like "She probably despises her father", or "I bet she’ll marry soon to get rid of her surname." It is because her surname was "Penis".

How you became a Lakers fan: I came here in 2007 for school and before that I’d never watch basketball game, only heard about MJ. Basketball is not popular in my country, but the soccer is. The fist game I watched Lakers game was on tv against Celtics. My friend told me about Kobe. And then the next season, I started watching the lakers game. So maybe you might say, I am bangwagoner, since Lakers do not lose any championship yet. But I want to say “No”, I am a real lakers fan.

I didn’t even bother saying goodbye to some of my high school buddies. Going to grad night later on with the Lakers victory fresh in mind was perhaps the most exhilarating moment of my life. Everyone there was pretty much celebrating the victory. It was awesome.

Occupation: Clothing apparel store owner / e-commerce retailer
Age: 31
Gender: M
Hometown: East Providence, RI
Story behind your screen name: 2 Things: I was a huge fan of Boot Camp Clik and Duck Down Records. One member went by Starang Wondah. I always liked the “wondah” part, plus I’m from New England where we sometimes don’t prononce “er” sounds too well in some parts. It comes out like "ah" (ex: Chowdah). “bap” is the first three letters of my last name…hence “wondahap” AKA bapmega. Since 2000. I guess you could say I have delusions of grandeur.
Sidenote: My BCC fandom also casue me to call my stores “Ohkeedoke” Check the avatar. That’s my logo.

Sure did. But....
I had just put the ring on my finger 7 months before that, so it was harmless flirting. I was buzzing pretty good when I saw her. I pronounced her last name wrong. She stopped, said hi, took my hands and held them as she spoke to me (even that felt good…haha), while I told her how beautiful she was and that she made my trip even thought the Lakers lost, and that I’m glad to see she’s doing well but that I didn’t know about that movie she had just done with Adam Sandler (Don’t Mess with the Zohan). She told me it was funny to go see it, asked me where I was from. Just made small talk , joked around and laughed. I actually told her she should leave because her prick of a friend was acting all kind of impatient. Stupid me. I should have asked for a pic and a kiss. I couldn’t believe how down to earth she was to actually stop and have a 3-5 minute convo with me. Let’s just say it boosted my ego quite a bit.

Screen name: bernel
Real name (optional): bernel
Occupation: uh… searching for employment
Age: 21
Gender: male
Hometown: Legazpi City (Albay, Philippines)
Story behind your screen name: my first first name is badass enough for me, so I use that.
How you became a Lakers fan: the duo of Shaq and Kobe bedazzled me much… but mostly Kobe since he was christened the “Next Jordan” back then (and I liked Jordan since he made me start watching NBA basketball because of Space Jam)…
Favorite Lakers memory of all time and of the 2009-2010 season: every time the Lakers win a championship would be a favorite moment (since they happen in my birthday month)… but I think the latest is my most favorite, since they beat the Celtics, erasing the stigma of 2008.
Most heartbreaking Lakers experience: already discussed it here…
Favorite Lakers player: the player that brought me to Lakerdom: Kobe Bryant
Greatest all-time Laker: Kobe Bryant. It’s not (only) because Magic was not of my generation and that I grew up watching Kobe, but I can see that Kobe is a more complete basketball player than Magic. Besides, Magic thinks Kobe is the GLOAT.
Last time you went to a game at Staples Center and/or at the Forum: (sigh) Unfortunately, I still haven’t. But I dream of doing so someday. One of the things in my list to do before I die.
Opposing team, player you dislike the most: Easy. Boston Celtics… as for the player, well, I’m not a LeBron hater, but since what is asked is the “disliked player”, well that would be LeBron.
Interactions with Lakers players: uh… I get updates in my wall from Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol through their official Facebook pages.
And years ago, I created a character of me in NBA Live ’06 to play for the Lakers. So, I got to “play and win a championship” with Kobe and the rest.

Most cherished piece of Lakers memorabilia you have: nothing much… cards… posters… stickers… cap…
Memorable stories about being a Lakers fan: enjoying the pride and privileges (and persecutions) a Laker fan is subject to.

How you became a Lakers fan: when i started playing NBA live 2003 on psx (yeah, psx)
and they were the first team on selection. i am also fond of Magic johnson before that, i thought it was awesome to have a 6’9" PG so when i create player in Live, i always make sure the PG is BIG.
Favorite Lakers memory of all time and of the 2009-2010 season: there are a lot of games to mention, 09-10 was one heck of a roller coaster ride, and i dont like roller coasters. i especially love it when me and dad watches a close game, and see him get excited, but i am terrified that he may have a heart attack.

also not a fan. Anybody wearing green shirts remind me too much of the Celtics. Besides, I’m not really fond of teams whose coaching staff run from behind and smack the opposing team’s star player because they’re losing. Na’ah.

Oooo! I like this post :)
Screen name: Cappie
Real name (optional): Stephanie
Occupation: Student/DJ/ secretary
Age: 18
Gender: 100% all woman, baby!
Hometown: Los Angeles, CA
Story behind your screen name: I have a love for pirates and I tend to be a hardass/ perfectionist on projects with some of my friends and fellow co-workers. Whenever I got into those moods, they’d respond “Aye, Aye Captain!” The name has stuck ever since I was 16. Cappie is the short form of it.
How you became a Lakers fan: My family exposed/brainwashed me since I was 5. It was until 2005 that I started to become very interested/involved/ falling in love with this great organization.
Favorite Lakers memory of all time and of the 2009-2010 season: Kobe’s 81 points and winning the championship in 2009 after the 7 year drought. For the 2009-2010 season, it has to be Kobe’s game winning shot vs the Kings on New Years! That to me was a sign of what was to come =) Oh and winning against the Celtics in June…..muaahahahaha!
Most heartbreaking Lakers experience: Losing to the Celtics in 2008 by 39 points in Game 6. I seriously started crying as the clock began to dwindle down and the last few seconds of seeing green confetti being dropped upon our boys in purple and gold broke my heart.
Favorite Lakers player: If you mean currently with this team, it has to be the Spaniard, PAU GASOL !! GASOLINE! <3
Greatest all-time Laker: Kobe Bean Bryant ( I respect and LOVE Magic and Kareem and West and all the others who wore the P & G in the earlier years but I grew up watching the Black Mamba….THE BLACK FRIGGIN MAMBA! ).
Last time you went to a game at Staples Center and/or at the Forum: Nov. 17 vs the Pistons. It was a birthday gift and I was about 13 rows from the court!
Opposing team, player you dislike the most: The Celtics and that should have player(s) because there are many I despise: Lebron James, Paul Pierce, KG, JR Smith, Kenyon Martin… I could go on and on.
Interactions with Lakers players: Sasha at a signing, Bynum at the LMU gym( he’s so tall compared to my lil frame, my gawd!) and Kobe at LMU for his camp in 2009. It was the closest I ever saw Kobe when he passed me by and I was stunned. Damn security, I would have ran after him.
Most cherished piece of Lakers memorabilia you have: Do my memories count? If not, I have my KB24 jersey!
Memorable stories about being a Lakers fan: The people/the fans, the friends you make and the friends that eventually become your family.

How you became a Lakers fan:
Was baptized after seeing Kobe’s alley-oop dunk from the deity known as SHAW.
Favorite Lakers memory of all time and of the 2009-2010 season:
All-time: Watching Kobe drain that game-winner in 2006 playoffs, Game 4 vs Suns
‘09-’10 season: Kobe’s miraculous heave of a shot to win the game over D-Wade.
Most heartbreaking Lakers experience:
Kobe and Colorado in ’03.
Favorite Lakers player:
Mamba
Greatest all-time Laker:
Magic, still. Best Laker of all-time is Kobe though. Greatness is something more than accolades and awards. Magic revolutionized the game in the 80s and was dominance at its finest. However, I’m not saying Kobe isn’t dominant; he is too, but Magic meant more for the Lakers than Kobe has…though Kobe is definitely getting up there.
Last time you went to a game at Staples Center and/or at the Forum:
Never been. But living in NY, I saw the Lakers come to MSG this year. Kobe had an off-night shooting 8-24 for 27 points. This game was on the day of his 4th anniversary of the 81 point masterpiece 01/22/2010.
Opposing team, player you dislike the most:
Celtics. How they can just make great players I used to like very non-likable. KG used be one of my favorite players not in a Lakers uniform for his efforts. Once he came to Boston, he honestly became quite the douche and his intensity seemed not so genuine anymore.
Player I dislike most other than Celtics players and LeBron since everyone hates them has to be JR Smith. I know athletes are not perfect and they make mistakes. It’s us fans and media who hold them up to high standards, but even so athletes are privileged and should be grateful with their jobs. Their making millions by playing the games they love. Going off track here, but this guy should NOT be in the league. On the court, he thinks he’s an assassin with ridiculous antics after draining a bucket. Off the court, take a look here. He’s also the most inked up person I’ve ever seen. Nothing against tattoos, but it’s because of this dude and other idiots in the league that continue to portray the stereo type of NBA players as thugs.
Interactions with Lakers players:
Playing on the Lakers in 2010…in NBA 2K10, my My-Player character (me) got on the Lakers rotation as the 3rd string SG. Kobe would bust my ass in training camp.
Most cherished piece of Lakers memorabilia you have:
Kobe Bryant swingman jersey #24 in Sunday white.
Memorable stories about being a Lakers fan:
-What made Kobe’s game-winner over Wade even better was that my friends (who all abhor the Lakers and Kobe) and I were streaming that game live on ESPN360 while playing some beer pong. After Fisher’s huge 3 to put it within one, D-Wade bonked one of his 2 FTs. My friends were all like, “Dude game over, 3.2 seconds, Kobe gonna choke hard.” I didn’t respond b/c I didn’t want to jinx anything. Artest throws in to Bryant who took the shot fading to his left, his whole body looking like a left parenthesis “(”. My friend flipped the shit and closed his laptop upon seeing what just transpired. His laptop got fucked up since he closed it so hard, and I was basking in the joy in what became a quiet room. Even better, my partner and I carried the Lakers’ momentum with us to hit our last five cups to win our game. :]
- Watching Derek Fisher tie up the score at 85 a piece in Game 4 of the ‘09 Finals. It was pretty late since I live on the east coast, and I screamed so loud I woke up the whole house. They didn’t seem to understand just how big of a deal basketball was and is.
- Game 1 of ‘09 Finals was on my birthday. Kobe delivered me a huge present by dropping buckets en route to 40 points and a glorious 100-75 victory. That Game 1 victory was a statement as our Lakers would wrap that series in a relatively-easy 5 games.
- In the game I went to this year (LAL @ NYK), I realized just how built and muscular Ron-Ron is. Like a diesel tank. On TV, he doesn’t look as jacked for some reason. You have to see NBA players live to appreciate their physical presence. If he were to come into the stands at me, I’d shit myself, probably be petrified, and would be beaten to pulp.
"i remember one time,we was playing basketball, and we was winning the game,it was so competitive,he broke a piece of lead from a table, and he threw it and it went right through his heart and he died right on the court" - Ron Artest on wonderful childhood memories.
Screen name: Ray DLC
Real name (optional):
Occupation: Robocop oops I meant rent-a-cop (part time student)
Age: Fisher old
Gender: Male
Hometown:Oxnard, CA
Story behind your screen name: Early on everyone here had a Laker related SN so I went original and just used my name which happens to be similar to Run DMC. (BTW my last name happens to be separated hence DLC)
How you became a Lakers fan: Early eighties my uncles rammed the Lakers, Dodgers, and Bruins down my throat.
Favorite Lakers memory of all time and of the 2009-2010 season: Last game Bird and Magic played against each other (not positive hope someone can confirm this), Magic hits a corner shot from the wing to win it at Boston. Favorite moment of 2009-2010 season when Ron Artest saved us against the Suns in the playoffs.
Most heartbreaking Lakers experience: Lost to the Bulls it felt like the Lakers finally ran out of steam and it felt like and end to an era.
Favorite Lakers player: The intangible Mr. Fisher
Greatest all-time Laker:Worthy (as much as I loved Magic’s passing I loved Worthy’s monster dunks just a bit more).
Last time you went to a game at Staples Center and/or at the Forum: I can’t remember who we played since I was drunk from drinking Bacardi straight up. But I do know we lost because of freakin’ shaq.
Opposing team, player you dislike the most: Without a doubt Boston.
Paul “the greatest player in a wheel chair” Pierce.
Interactions with Lakers players:My brother met Robert Horry in Vegas after the first threepeat.
Most cherished piece of Lakers memorabilia you have: Starting Lineup 96 edition of Kobe.
Memorable stories about being a Lakers fan: The simplest memory is my best memory. When we were kids me and my brother would play hoops right after the Lakers would win. But the one I still get pissed off about is when my sister’s cheerleader squad went to see a Laker game at the Forum.
I look at the momentums of the game, and how you affect the game. Statistics can’t tell you that, can’t teach you how to feel a game. Statistics are just for fantasy buffs or something- Kobe Bryant
I can't believe the people of Miami said Kobe sucks. And I can't believe mark Cuban continues to doubt Kobe. I'm gonna tell Kobe about this-Ron Artest via twitter
Screen name: Travis P (I should probably change that)
Real name (optional): Travis
Occupation: Graduate student in Chemistry
Age: 26
Gender: Male
Hometown: Bellflower, CA
Story behind your screen name: It’s my name. I remember I badly wanted to comment on something and didn’t bother thinking up a clever name. Didn’t think I would come back here after the comment but I have really started to dig this site.
How you became a Lakers fan: I guess it would have started with my Dad. My first season of dedicated Lakers watching was the 93-94 season which is one of the worst in Lakers history and Nick Van Exel’s rookie year. That was the beginning.
Favorite Lakers memory of all time and of the 2009-2010 season:
Favorite all time memory is of Robert Horry in Game 4 WCF versus Sac-to. I still feel that is the greatest play in the history of the league.
Favorite of 2009-2010 is celebrating the victory in Game 7 at 6 am by jumping up and down and pumping my fists myself in France. After Game 1 versus Utah I moved to France for 3 months and woke up between 2 or 4 am for every Lakers game to watch online. I also had my Dad recording games for me to send overseas for me to watch on DVD. I would never have forgiven myself if I had missed this championship.
Most heartbreaking Lakers experience: Robert Horry missing a game-winning 3 pointer against the Spurs in 2002-2003. I thought the Lakers were unbeatable then and always would be.
Favorite Lakers player: Kobe Bryant
Greatest all-time Laker: Kobe Bryant
Last time you went to a game at Staples Center and/or at the Forum: February 28th versus the Nuggets. The crowd was pissed that the Nuggets were getting away with mad over-the-back fouls but the Lakers adjusted in the second half and pulled out an ugly victory.
Opposing team, player you dislike the most: The team has to be the Celtics. Every Lakers fan has to hate the Celtics. Two more years and they won’t have anything to talk about when the Lakers get to 18 titles. Least favorite player right now would have to be Le Bron because of this offseason.
Interactions with Lakers players: Never really had any.
Most cherished piece of Lakers memorabilia you have: I get a copy of the LA Times the day after every championship since 2000 as well as a t-shirt. I have a couple of banners for the last two championships as well.
Memorable stories about being a Lakers fan: The 2002 WCF Finals versus the Kings. It was my first year of college and I was watching the series with a bunch of No Cal people. (I call it “No Cal” instead of Nor Cal, because if “So Cal” only gets two letters before the California part then northern California should have two or less. I would be fine with N Cal.) Kobe had a chance to win Game 5 in Sac-to if not for Bobby Jackson pulling Kobe’s jersey nearly over Kobe’s head on the shot. He missed and no foul was called and I swore that the NBA was fixed. The Lakers had won the last two championships and now the NBA was making sure a new champion won.
Then I heard about Shaq and Kobe’s conversation saying, “Let’s go make history” because it had been a long time since a road team won Game 7 which the Lakers would need to do. I bet one of the No Cal’ers that the Lakers would win the series even though they were down 3-2. It was I think a 10 dollar bet since we were both starving college students. If the Lakers needed to win a game that playoffs I went to my grandma’s to watch the game. She was a huge Lakers fan and that was my superstition at the time. As you all know, the Lakers went on to win Game 6 and 7 and from then on I will never blame a loss on the officials. The better team always wins and I am glad that the Lakers are so often the better team and they are my team.

Story behind screen name: it’s obvious
How you became a Lakers fan: It runs in the family, since I was born I rooted for the Lakers
Favorite all time memory: Watching D Fish make that 0.4 shot against the Spurs which I hated for that time.
Favorite of 2009-2010: Watching the Lakers celebrate the championship and the shoving it up everyone who hated the Lakers.
Most heartbreaking Lakers experience: Watching the Celtics come back from that 25- point deficit and lose the game.
Favorite Lakers memory of all time and of the 2009-2010 season: Winning game seven, watching the Celtics cry and the Lakers celebrate :)
Favorite Lakers player: Kobe Bryant
Greatest all-time Laker: Kobe Bryant
Last time you went to a game at Staples Center and/or at the Forum: Last year’s Finals against the Magic, the D Fish clutch shots!!
Opposing team, player you dislike the most: Celtics, hands down
Interactions with Lakers players: None
Most cherished piece of Lakers memorabilia you have: a 16th Championship T-Shirt.
Memorable stories about being a Lakers fan: game against Celtics game 7, watching with a bunch of friends whom ALL of them except me and another guy hated the Lakers, when they won the game, I celebrated a lot and then shove the win against everyone there.

Favorite Lakers memory of all time and of the 2009-2010 season: Thats a good question, Kobe’s game winners last season was memorable, Kobe’s 05 06 season dude was balling
Most heartbreaking Lakers experience: Watching the Detroit Pistons beat them, I was extremely pissed
Favorite Lakers player: Kobe
Greatest all-time Laker: Kobe

Interactions with Lakers players: Never had one
Most cherished piece of Lakers memorabilia you have: Lakers 15th and 16th champion shirts, basketball cards
Memorable stories about being a Lakers fan:
Just watching talent at its best, season after season of watching Kobe, arguing with non laker fans online(I don’t do it no more but I use to badly) but it was fun and funny. Oh then recently watching the finals and kicking a hole in my basment wall after something stupid the Lakers did, good times.

guess I should post mine
Screen name: Shaqfor3
Real name (optional): Angelo
Occupation: frustrated college student
Age: 18
Gender: dude
Hometown: Pasadena, CA
Story behind your screen name: thought it would be funny to create a sorta contradictory user name (you know, because shaq doesnt shoot 3s, heh). Shaq was my favorite player when he was with the Lakers but I lost a lot of respect for him after the whole trade.
How you became a Lakers fan: KCAL aired the games usually and since no other team consistently was on tv, I started watching them. The first game I saw was from 1998 or 1999, the Lakers were playing at Reunion arena (I think they lost but I can barely remember specifics since I was only 6 or 7 at the time.)
Favorite Lakers memory of all time and of the 2009-2010 season: The last game of the 2000 finals when they won it at staples. My favorite memory of this past season was game 3 of the finals when Fisher ran down the court on a 1 on 3 fastbreak and somehow made the ball go in the cylinder.
Most heartbreaking Lakers experience: Watching the team completely melt in the 2004 finals. Game 6 of the 2006 1st round and game 4 from the 2008 finals. Probably the two worst losses I can remember. (Didnt get to watch game 5 of the 2003 semis since it was on cable, but that must have been pretty brutal too).
Favorite Lakers player: Kobe or Pau (I am indecisive)
Greatest all-time Laker: Magic Johnson
Last time you went to a game at Staples Center and/or at the Forum: 2005 vs the Nets. They fell apart in the 4th quarter of that game. Kobe didnt play cause he was sitting out a bunch of games after spraining his ankle. Sadly never got to see a game at the Forum. The only times I have been to the Forum were to see the circus.
Opposing team, player you dislike the most: The Celtics. Paul Pierce after he won the Oscar for his performance in game 1 of the finals.
Interactions with Lakers players: I saw Kobe, Artest, and etc at the parade and that is pretty much it.
Most cherished piece of Lakers memorabilia you have: A Kobe Minneapolis style laker jersey except in purple/gold color scheme.
Memorable stories about being a Lakers fan: I was watching game 5 of the 2004 semis with some classmates at school because of a school event. One guy was predicting the Lakers would choke during the whole game, and it almost looked like that would be the case after Duncan made that 1 in a million shot over Shaq. Then fisher went and made a 1 in a billion shot and everyone else started jumping and running around the classroom in happiness while the doubter stood silent.

Screen name: Mike1204
Real name (optional): Um, I’m gonna go with Mike
Occupation: Undergrad student at UC Berkeley, majoring in Molecular Toxicology
Age: almost 22
Gender: Dude
Hometown: LA, but going to school in the bay area (and surrounded by Warriors fans, God help me…)
Story behind your screen name: yahoo id converted into sportsnation id. At first, I didn’t know I was going to be creeping full time here, but hey, how else can I get thru lecture about random bio crap I don’t care about?
How you became a Lakers fan: Started watching basketball around 4th grade. Fell in love with “Throw it down, big fella, throw it down!” and never looked back since~
Favorite Lakers memories of all time and of the 2009-2010 season:
-Utah’s 4th quarter LOCKDOWN!
-Ron’s buzzer beater
-Kobe went apeshit at the Suns at the waning moments of Game 6
All time:
-Horry’s dagger
-0.4
-Kobe’s ally to Shaq during Game 7 of the 2000 WCF
Most heartbreaking Lakers experience:
-the end of the first 3 peat, when the spurs took us out. Fish’s face said it all…
-Game 6 of the 08 finals. Hated green ever since…
Favorite Lakers player: since I grew up in the Age of the Black Mamba, I’ll go with Kobe
Greatest all-time Laker: Kareem, just because he hacked the NBA and set a scoring record with one of the most unstoppable shots in the history of bball
Last time you went to a game at Staples Center and/or at the Forum: I’ll let you know after my first successful bank heist =(
Opposing team, player you dislike the most: tough one, LeBron is a popular choice, but at least he doesn’t fake shit on national TV. I’ll go with Paul “we ain’t going back to LA” Pierce
Interactions with Lakers players: Does screaming at Sasha every time he fouls 50 ft from the basket count?
Most cherished piece of Lakers memorabilia you have: My 2009 poster, and I’m currently in search of a badass 2010 poster to go with it. Any suggestions?
Memorable stories about being a Lakers fan: well, there’s you guys. What started as a way to avoid getting caught sleeping during lecture has grown into a morning routine unto itself, and I am grateful for it.
But the best part has to be just being able to “rely” on them. My young life is full of possibilities, but also uncertainties. The world is changing, always have and always will, but one thing usually stays constant throughout: the Lakers winning while other teams make excuses (cough Doc cough*)
-Mike
In honor and memory of the Taco Squad (2009-2010)
Gotta disagree with you here, Mike.
LeBron is a popular choice, but at least he doesn’t fake shit on national TV.
He faked humanity for a whole hour.

How you became a Lakers fan: – seeing magic play during the first nba game i ever saw- 1984 game 6 between the lakers n celts. even though we lost that year, it was the last time we lost to the celts in the championships during the showtime era. I was hooked on the lakers and became a die hard laker fan! From then on, it was showtime!! even during the 90’s, i loved the laker teams featuring cedric ceballos, nick van exel, eddie jones, elden campbell
Favorite Lakers memory of all time and of the 2009-2010 season: – junior sky hook of magic in the finals and for the 2009-10 season – game winning shots of kobe. putback of pau and ronron during the playoffs, and all the drama in game 7 of the finals, plus the post game interview of ronron- best ever!!
Most heartbreaking Lakers experience: triple TIE – magic retiring in 1991 and games 4 and 6 of the 2008 finals
Favorite Lakers player: magic johnson# 32 baby!!
Greatest all-time Laker: TIE BETWEEN KOBE AND MAGIC . iF KOBE SUCCEEDS IN GIVING US A 3PEAT again, in my opinion, he will be the greatest laker.

How the eff did Pacquiao become a Celtics fan?

Can we say Pacquiao is a bandwagon fan?
He was a fan when boston won the 2008 NBA Finals. But last year before the Nike Photoshoot and commercial Pacquiao said that he’s now a fan of Kobe Bryant and the lakers…c’,)
That's right. He did.
LeBron does that too. I hope Pac Man doesn’t talk about himself in third person too….I like the dude.

It eventually became my own brand of clothing and splash colognes sold locally. FYI, franville is 3 years older than FarmVille.
How you became a Lakers fan: I was a fan of basketball since i was a kid. But when Kobe Bryant took his talents to the NBA, that was the beginning of it… And then they start winning…
Favorite Lakers memory of all time and of the 2009-2010 season:
Kobe Bryant’s 2 incredible 3’s at portland to end the 2004 regular season and took home the Pacific division title! That was sweet… especially now that the last man who guarded him on that OT play is now his team mate, Theo Ratliff…
2009-2010 – Kobe’s impossible 3 against Dwayne Wade. I was not wasn’t able to watch it live because i was at my shop waiting for my 2 friends (visitors) since it was my birthday. Then they came, i was busy checking the box scores at yahoo and the forums here at SS&R. My friends keep telling me that it’s over. The Lakers will lose that game. I said just wait. Then when i refresh the box score screen, i was surprised how the hell the lakers won the game? Then I saw on SS&R that all the people were praising kobe. I’ve waited about 30 mins to finally watch that last shot on ESPN.com… And Man i was so amazed, even my friends were shocked. It was a perfect gift for me…c’,)
Most heartbreaking Lakers experience: 2006 Playoffs vs Suns and of course the 2008 NBA Finals
Favorite Lakers player: Kobe
Greatest all-time Laker: Kobe

Most cherished piece of Lakers memorabilia you have: The customized JanSport Bag colored purple and gold and with the Lakers logo…c’,)
Memorable stories about being a Lakers fan: The 2010 NBA Finals; I just arrived here in Canada during the NBA Conference Finals. Since i was rooting for the lakers, it’s a must for me to watch every lakers game in any means necessary… We borrowed an internet stick from my mother’s friend and i started streaming NBA games every night. Since then, my mother get to root for the lakers too. My father always say that he’s a lakers too, but i can see that he’s just one of those bandwagon fans out there. He always teases me every time the lakers got to play the league’s cream of the crop.
So go back to the NBA finals, it was game 2, the Lakers were loosing, my father told us that they were dead because the next 3 games will be in boston. They told us that the lakers we’re just lucky to win game 1. Then my mother told him that he should shut up. And then they’re on this im-not-going-to-talk-to-you-unless-you-shut-up all throughout the night.. But it didn’t stop my father from “verbally abusing us” from what’s happening on the court. Then game 3 comes… My mother can’t watch because she’s so tired… When the lakers were winning the game, i just look at my father and he seems to be sleeping, but i knew he’s not. And when the boston celtics got the series lead, he started bashing the lakers again, but we know what happens… Championship baby!!!
DAMN you do alot Kudos

After Artest’s 3, however, every one of them stopped watching while I enjoyed the victory ceremony.

Favorite Lakers memory of all time and of the 2009-2010 season: Being at game 4 against PHX when Kobe made the game winning shot and for this season defeating the Celtics, of course
Most heartbreaking Lakers experience: Toss up between losing to the suns in 06 or the Celtics in 08
Favorite Lakers player: Lamar Odom
Greatest all-time Laker: Magic with Kobe in his rearview mirror
Last time I went to a game at Staples: Game 1 of the 2010 NBA Finals
Most disliked player: Paul Pierce
Interactions with Lakers players: I tend to interact with their family more often. I went to elementary school with Magic’s kids so growing up I was able to go to dinners and Christmas parties with their family. I have plenty of homevideos with my family with Magic’s. Although he is not a Laker same situation with Jack’s kids and he might as well be part-Laker. Does socializing with the Kardashians at Lakers game count lol?
Most cherished piece of Lakers memorabilia: well now its the ticket to game 7 of the 2010 NBA finals
Most memorable stories about being a Lakers fan: Where to start, all the great games I’ve been able to go to: The Lakers comeback against Dallas earlier in the decade, Kobe’s GW vs PHX, I have been to more than half of the playoffs games in the 08, 09, and 10 season. But the by far the most amusing ones were sitting down at a table with Vanessa Bryant and Kobe’s two daughters and

Story behind your screen name: I couldn’t think of anything else, and I thought it sounded alright. One time, I actually got a shout out over an internet radio station that I used to listen to and participate on chat. A woman said, “What’s up to ‘thestuff01’…I don’t know what kind of stuff he’s talking about but…” I forgot the rest.
How you became a Lakers fan: Visiting my grandparents’ house in Fresno County, one evening I simply witnessed Magic Johnson play on TV. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I was both amazed and entertained to say the least and had to catch every game I possibly could after that. It wasn’t difficult to see them once the Playoffs rolled around, as they were habitually going deep. How could anyone not have become a fan watching Magic and the rest of that cast?
Favorite Lakers memory of all time and of the 2009-2010 season: All time, wow… difficult. This season was the most awesome because it was the first victory over Boston in the Finals I’ve been able to witness. However, it’s too new and too fresh to be a favorite memory. So I think my favorite Lakers memory would have to be the first Lakers Finals victory I’d been able to witness – the 2000 win over the Pacers, particularly when Shaq fouled out of a game and Kobe took the game over in OT with clutch shot after clutch shot.
Of the 2009-10 season, it would have to be Kobe’s ‘lucky shot’ over DWade at the buzzer. And in the Finals, the Lakers Game 1 dismantling and intimidation of Boston that set the tone for the series.
Most heartbreaking Lakers experience: Either the loss to the Bulls in 91 or the loss to the Pistons in 04. Both equally disappointing for different reasons. The loss to the Bulls signaled the end of the Lakers dominance and the beginning of the Jordan’s ascendence to best-ever myth status. The Pistons loss was tough because I didn’t think a team with Kobe could lose in the Finals. Some aspects of that team were a big disappointment.
Favorite Lakers player: Kobe. In the past it was Magic, Van Exel, and Eddie Jones.
Greatest all-time Laker: Kobe. It’s hard for me to say that because of the nostalgia and love for Magic and because Kobe is still playing. But I think Kobe will go down as the greatest all-time NBA player.
Last time you went to a game at Staples Center and/or at the Forum: Never been to the Forum or Staples. I really want to go to a game. When I’m in LA, I love the Lakers vibe and love displayed everywhere, though, like car flags and such. I’ve only attended one basketball game at the Oakland Colosseum and the Lakers weren’t even playing.
Opposing team, player you dislike the most: Pierce. KG a close second.
Interactions with Lakers players: none. Just me and yelling at/for them to the TV screen.
Most cherished piece of Lakers memorabilia you have: A Lakers colored LA skate hat. If I had a Lakers themed skateboard, that would be the most cherished.
Memorable stories about being a Lakers fan: I think my mom once called me a traitor for going against the Warriors (because I also supported the Warriors back then) in the playoffs in the Magic era before she realized how passionate I was.
Watching Game 7 against Sacramento in 2000 with friends/Laker haters and taking heat, ridicule and laughter all game long until Kobe to Shaq.
And this year, getting bombarded with hater messages, such as, “Lakers are going down!” on Facebook after Game 5 of the Finals. Then silence. Calm. Sweet redemption. And nonstop posting and re-posting of Laker victory and Doc Funk pics.
Magic made me a Laker fan.
And this year, getting bombarded with hater messages, such as, "Lakers are going down!" on Facebook after Game 5 of the Finals. Then silence. Calm. Sweet redemption. And nonstop posting and re-posting of Laker victory and Doc Funk pics.

Another posted reminded me of another one of my favorite all-time Laker moments
Though, this one was not on the court. It was the moment I heard Kobe Bryant had been drafted by the Lakers. I was so excited and couldn’t wait to see him hit the court against Jordan. Even before he played, I just had a feeling he was going to be the next “Jordan”. That was my feeling at the time.
Magic made me a Laker fan.
you mean when the you heard he had been traded to the lakers
he wasn’t drafted by us, obviously
3 Heat can't stop the 3peat.
actually, I didn't know the details of the transaction and didn't care
all I heard was that the Lakers landed Kobe Bryant and I was stoked!
Magic made me a Laker fan.

Occupation: For the last week, high school math teacher; in the very near future, human remains.
Age: 28
Gender: Male
Hometown: Does this mean where I am, or where I’m “from”? Because if it’s the former, then San Antonio. But if it’s the latter, then there’s no such thing. At one point in my life, each of the following has fit that bill: Fresno (or Tulare), CA; Neuchâtel, Switzerland; Bangui, Central African Republic; Bouaké, Ivory Coast. Recently, I have also lived in Eugene, OR and McPherson, KS, but would never have told anyone I was from either of those places. It’s hard for me to really associate myself with a place — “home” is associated more with people than places — but the place I have felt most strongly attached to, when the votes are in, was Bouaké, Ivory Coast.
Story behind your screen name: It’s my name. It used to be… well, something associated with this blog, since I founded it. But once I realized that my writing here would gain exposure beyond SS&R itself, I realized that I wanted my work associated with my name. So I changed it, and now folks around here know me by name. I like that.
How you became a Lakers fan: I inherited it. My dad was a Lakers fan, as was my grandfather. I come by it honestly — not that I would begrudge anyone who came by it any other way, so long as they stuck to it, once the decision was made. But I’ve been a Lakers fan since before the time at which my memories start. As far as I’m concerned, I simply never wasn’t a Lakers fan.
Favorite Lakers memory of all time and of the 2009-2010 season: Favorite of all time is hard to say — they generally come down to clutch Kobe moments. I watched the Portland game in which he hit two impossible buzzer-beaters with my dad and my sister — I was simply out of my mind, screaming like a little girl. I literally fell off the couch when he hit that shot. The two buzzer-beaters against Phoenix were also amazing; I also shared those moments with my dad and sister. Just recently, I was in a small bar in central Kansas, believing we had lost as the game neared its end, when Kobe hit the luckiest shot of his career over Dwyane Wade. I went nuts; all the Kansans in the bar, completely disinterested in the game, looked at me like I’d escaped from a mental ward. But the best had to be the end of Game 7, just two months ago. Beating the Celtics … Ron’s best-press-conference-in-the-history-of-the-world … beating the Celtics … the most genuine, childlike, joyful, and honest Kobe we’ve seen in a decade … beating the Celtics … Kobe’s 15 rebounds … beating the Celtics … D-Fish’s huge three-pointer … beating the Celtics … Ron Artest’s huge three-pointer … beating the Celtics … watching the Celtics slink off the court in misery … beating the Celtics … making Paul Pierce eat his words … oh, it was pretty awesome to beat the Celtics, too. The last half hour of that game, I was a nervous wreck. My brother-in-law got a lot of amusement out of that. 5 more minutes of that game, and I would have been in a mental ward. And when the time finally ran out, I broke into an uncontrollable celebration that my brother-in-law described as “the goofiest thing [he’d] ever seen.” Watching it with my sister and my wife, talking with my dad on the phone right after the win… Nothing beats that moment. I went to the 2009 Finals, I’ve been in the locker room and the press room — but all of my best Lakers memories are the ones I experienced as a fan.
Most heartbreaking Lakers experience: Has to be losing to Boston in 2008. Nothing felt more miserable. Detroit in 2004 was a close second, and by some measures, would actually be first — because we should have won that series, and the same can’t necessarily be said about Boston in 2008. But Boston hurt more… because it was Boston, and because it was supposed to be Kobe’s moment to show the world who would laugh last and longest. It makes this latest victory that much sweeter, but that doesn’t soften the bitterness of 2008. Third would be losing to Phoenix in 7 games, back in 2006. After coming so close… I don’t regret how things went down. We were supposed to lose. Phoenix was the better team, by far. I don’t think Kobe quit in game 7; far from it, he did what he felt like gave the Lakers their best shot at winning, even if it was a really long shot. But to have been so close, and then finally see Phoenix wake up and realize that they could stop bitching and moaning and just outplay us and win the series, simply because they were better — it was what was supposed to happen, but that didn’t make it any easier.
Favorite Lakers player: Pau Gasol. … Oh, you haven’t fallen asleep in class, yet? Okay, you got me. It’s Smush Parker. What, still don’t believe me. Fine, fine… I’m a huge Derek Fisher fan. It’s why I got into blogging. No? Alright, alright — fair enough, Kobe’s my boy. I identify with him a lot; we’re actually quite similar, with the primary difference being that he’s awesome. Though I am a huge Derek Fisher fan.
Greatest all-time Laker: I’d call it a dead heat between Magic and Kobe, right now. But then, part of that is because I hold Magic higher than most. I think there’s a compelling case to be made that Magic, not Michael, was the greatest of all time. Hard to say that out of one side of my mouth, and then call Kobe the greatest Laker out of the other.
Last time you went to a game at Staples Center and/or at the Forum: 2009 NBA Finals. Press pass, locker room access, etc. Absolutely incredible experience, as a writer; as a fan, I found it lacked certain things I find critical to the fan experience.
Opposing team, player you dislike the most: Celtics; LeBron James. That is all.
Interactions with Lakers players: You’d think I’d have some good stories from being a member of the press at the 2009 Finals, but you simply can’t fathom the kind of chaos it is behind the scenes, at the Finals. Guys like me didn’t really interact with the players. And given that I don’t really live in L.A., I really have no stories to tell. My wife has had some interactions with Pau Gasol in her dreams…
Most cherished piece of Lakers memorabilia you have: I tend to be too broke for such things. I’ve almost always worn hats, so I try to get a hat from every championship — which is problematic, since the most recent locker room championship hat was, to be quite frank, sad and pathetic. Was it designed by some 1990s soothsayer? Because I wouldn’t be caught dead in the thing. Anyone seen any 2010 championship hats that aren’t tacky? I loved the 2009 championship hat; it’s still my mainstay.
Memorable stories about being a Lakers fan: Founding what has become one of the largest Lakers blogs on the internet? Going to the 2009 NBA Finals? Watching Kobe win back the masses, over the last several years, and laughing maniacally to myself as it happened? Nah, I’d have to go with creating this place and “meeting” all you awesome and hilarious people. Honestly, to me, the blessing of being a Lakers fans has come not from the dramatic stories, but from the day-to-day pursuit of greatness — all the little moments that have simply made it an incredible ride, and one that non-Lakers fans the world over are secretly (and bitterly) jealous of. And having all these SS&R people, who love it as much as I do, to share it with has made it better still.

My sentiments exactly regarding Magic
IMO, there were lots of things that Magic did in the court that defied bb orthodoxy. He played multiple positions when necessary in order to win, had the unquestionable competitive fire (but without being a douche about it when teammates don’t have the same level of passion), and made basketball fun to watch.

How you became a Lakers fan:
Never really cared about the NBA much until I followed Nick Van Exel out of my favorite college team, Cincinnati, to the Lakers. I started watching every game I could and became a die hard Laker fan.
Favorite Lakers memory of all time and of the 2009-2010 season:
All time – Lakers vs Blazers WCF 2000 Game 7.
09-10 Season – Kobe’s game winners.
Most heartbreaking Lakers experience:
Easy. January 13th 2008. Losing to the C’s would have been bearable if we had Drew. I had hope, but I knew when he went down my year might end in heartbreak.
Favorite Lakers player: Kobe
Greatest all-time Laker: Kobe
Last time you went to a game at Staples Center and/or at the Forum: Never :(
Opposing team, player you dislike the most: Celtics, JR Smith
Interactions with Lakers players:
Been to a couple games now, but nothing special for here yet :(
Most cherished piece of Lakers memorabilia you have:
Nick Van Exel jersey. All my love started here.
Memorable stories about being a Lakers fan:
I’ve converted multiple “bleh” NBA fans who don’t have a team and just get together with me to watch Lakers games, into Laker fans. They enjoy the way I analyze the game and how i cheer like a maniac. Oh and me and the girl I was with her 2 of the ~1000 people who went to the Dec 17th game vs NJ last year. There was like 20+ inches of snow, it was horrible but there was no way I was missing it.

Most heartbreaking Lakers experience: I didn’t watch most of the second half of Game 6 in Boston back in 08, but that still haunts me. I couldn’t go near any sports media for a while after that. I even tore off the cover of Sports Illustrated the week after and tore out the story just so I could enjoy my magazine.

Last time you went to a game at Staples Center and/or at the Forum: 2008 vs. the Bobcats. Kobe got ejected and Pau had been signed but wasn’t in the lineup for a reason that I do not remember. And they lost. That was the only game I’ve gone to.

Add me to the list of Filipino Laker Fans
Screen name: pinoyballer
Real name (optional): Pablo B
Occupation: Marketing Assistant / Future Restaurant Owner
Age: 26
Gender: Male
Hometown: San Juan Metro Manila, Philippines
Story behind your screen name: I wanted something to represent my being a Filipino (or the more colloquial term: Pinoy) fan who loves basketball. For the added narcassistic touch I wanted a name that ties up to my initials P,B. Thus my screen name.
How you became a Lakers fan: Started off being a Penny Hardaway fan. Followed him to the Suns. Stuck around a bit as a Suns fan. Then I watched Kobe will the Smush Parker era Lakers to a Game 7 against a very talented Suns team. I was stuck from then on. I loved how Kobe evolved from being a bratty superstar to a true leader.
Favorite Lakers memory of all time: Kobe dropping 81 points was insane. I was up at 8am watching what I thought would be a pedestrian game against Toronto. Boy was I wrong!
and of the 2009-2010 season: Fisher’s And-1 against 3 Celtics. Intangibles baby!
Most heartbreaking Lakers experience: Losing the 24 point lead in 2008. My Celtic loving officemate was all up in my face after that. Took all the patience in my body not to slug him.
Favorite Lakers player: Kobe but I love Fish and I pattern my game after him (bet that’s the first time any of you have heard of that!)
Greatest all-time Laker: I love Kobe but now that I’m a Laker fan I gotta respect tradition. That’s why Magic Johnson is still the greatest Laker. Kobe’s getting close though.
Last time you went to a game at Staples Center and/or at the Forum: Never. But like most Philippine-based Laker Fans, it’s a dream of mine to watch the Lakers live.
Opposing team, player you dislike the most: Toss-up between Paul Pierce and LeBron. But like I said, tradition counts so the Celtic Diva beats the Trator Diva.
Interactions with Lakers players: None yet. Missed the chance to see Kobe when he was here.
Most cherished piece of Lakers memorabilia you have: My tito (uncle) who lives in LA bought me the 2008 Championship shirt last year. I’m now waiting for my Back-to-Back Championship shirt from him.
Memorable stories about being a Lakers fan: Getting up all in my Celtic loving officemate’s face after Sasha hit 2 FT’s to seal the deal. He couldn’t even look me in the eye. Payback’s a sweet, sweet bitch.

Favorite Lakers memory of all time and of the 2009-2010 season: Magic’s Baby sky hook shot to win the 1987 chip
Most heartbreaking Lakers experience: Magic’s 1991 retirement. Couldn’t even watch any type of sport after that for a long while.
Favorite Lakers player: Now, Kobe. All time, Earvin “Magic” Johnson.
Greatest all-time Laker: Magic Johnson
Last time you went to a game at Staples Center and/or at the Forum: haven’t set foot in it yet.

Interactions with Lakers players: Kobe, when he came to Manila in 2007. Kobe Supernatural Asia Tour, I think.
Most cherished piece of Lakers memorabilia you have: Lakers hat. Contemplating buying a Kobe shoe just like LakerAce’s.
Memorable stories about being a Lakers fan: Following game 7 of the 2010 championship in my cellphone while in church as a secondary sponsor of a friend’s wedding. The groom’s like, mouthing, “Who’s winning?” while the priest is doing the eucharist. Most of us males can’t concentrate on the mass/wedding rite, especially when the Lakers came back in the third. By the time the wedding’s done, all the males were in good spirits except one: a Celtics bandwagonner who’s a Lebron fan. At the reception, we were so rowdy the MC had to acknowledge the fact, going “In case you still don’t know, the Lakers just won the 2009-2010 NBA championship. Congratulations to the Lakers and their fans.” The bride looked at her hubby with a knowing look and rolled her eyes. Afterwards, the bride said to us in Filipino, “No wonder Paul kept looking at all of you instead of at the altar. You’re a bunch of B.I.s (bad influences)” All of us, including her brother, replied, “you got to be patient with us Laker fans. Back to back! You both, on the other hand, we think won’t do that tonight.”

at least I hope that’s a compliment. Believe me, outside of SSR, most of us think we are still not that old. But looking at all your profiles, geez. I feel so, you know, like your uncle or something. ;-)

Screen name:Marty Mart
Real name (optional): Martin
Occupation: Full-time Student/Boyfriend, Part Time Student Union Manager
Age: 21
Gender: Male
Hometown: From Wisconsin, live in Atlanta
Story behind your screen name: Watched the show ‘Martin’ on tv, one of his many nicknames was Marty Mart and it stuck with my family calling me the same thing.
How you became a Lakers fan: I love basketball video games and the game that got me into them was Kobe Bryant’s NBA Courtside and I owned every iteration of it, including Courtside 2002 after NBA 2K started. Kobe quickly became my favorite player, and just out of habit the Lakers are the team I’ve watched for over a decade and they are the team and organization that I follow. Kobe will always be my favorite player, but the Lakers will always be my favorite team.
Favorite Lakers memory of all time and of the 2009-2010 season: All time has to be watching the sweep through the 2001 playoffs and then give the Sixers a glimmer of hope before crushing them again. First year, I watched the playoffs all the way through and that was a just reward. This past year, has to be Ron Artest’s postgame interview. I’ve never felt so happy for someone I don’t know at all. Like how can you hate on Ron Artest after genuine happiness like that.
Most heartbreaking Lakers experience: Kobe’s rape trial. Needless to say I was skeptical at first, but when your favorite player and someone you viewed as a role model for the rest of the league gets in trouble for accused rape, it does hit home as a severe disappointment.
Favorite Lakers player: I don’t think I’ve made it clear enough yet, so I’ll say it one more time. Kobe Bryant. lol
Greatest all-time Laker: I don’t even know. I prefer to categorize players that are immortalized in Laker lore. For me those players would be Wilt, West, Kareem, Magic, Bryant, Shaq (even though I honestly cannot stand him, his best years in this league were as a Laker).
Last time you went to a game at Staples Center and/or at the Forum: Oh I wish I could see the Lakers live. The one time I had a chance to go to see them when they came to Milwaukee this past year, which just so happened to be one of the buzzer-beater games, my flight didn’t get in until the day after. Needless to say I was so pissed watching sportscenter that night as my friend texted me about how great it was.
Opposing team, player you dislike the most: I dislike the on-court antics of Paul Pierce. Like he never really annoyed me before, but just watching him the past three years with the extra exposure he’s gotten, I really can’t stand his bitch tactics, and thats offensive to bitches everywhere but there’s only one name worse than bitch and thats Paul Pierce. We’ll just say he’s a bitch under his own category of Paul Pierce.
Interactions with Lakers players: I played as many a created player on the Lakers in NBA Courtside. Trading away Glen Rice to be the ultimate SF. lol.
Most cherished piece of Lakers memorabilia you have: Actually don’t own any. Don’t know why, but I never got into buying NBA memorabilia. I like Kobe’s shoes though and may be getting them in the future.
Memorable stories about being a Lakers fan: Watching this year’s playoffs. I was like a crack fiend for Lakers games during the playoffs this year. I watched almost every game I could. I ran around the room yelling. I had smug looks after victories. Excuses and blame after losses. I was livid, I was mad, I was pissed, and most of all I enjoyed myself to the fullest watching this game we call basketball played by the best franchise in the NBA. One of the most entertaining playoffs I’ve watched in a while (except for the Utah series, that had to be depressing to watch the slow death over 4 games for Jazz fans).
These things happened. They were glorious and they changed the world... and then we fucked up the end game. - Charlie Wilson
Oh and of course
following along during these playoffs on these hilarious and wonderful game threads is just another great experience. Thumbs up to SB Nation, J Tuck, D Fish, and C Clar for the great content and threads and follow-ups to the games. Even if I missed a game during the year this was the first place I checked. And you always gotta give credit to the credits master, Wondahbap and his minions for their wonderful services to the community. Seriously, good work guys. You finally gave me an alternative to reading Kelly Dwyer for my Laker analysis and in my opinion no one does it better.

its funnier, cuz I didn’t even put my last name up there to stop the confusion.

LOL, I remembered from that other thread.
I’ve called you that a couple of times. I just never add the second “n”.

I don’t know what would annoy me more. Using my last name as my first name or if people just refused to acknowledge that second ‘n’. lol

Paul Pierce must really be a bitch
if so many people (along with me) name him as their most despised player.
Magic made me a Laker fan.
yeah he sux....
but i hate Lebron Jemes!

What a douche

yeah, that's him
at least Reed’s injury was real.

and he wasn't a douche
although that did happen against LA… uck.
also, must see:

it’s sooo bad.
3 Heat can't stop the 3peat.
Just to clarify
I meant PP as the douche, not Willis Reed. I read somewhere that Reed’s injury was real, so no douchery there.

that was the moment I had first ever even heard of Pierce to be honest
After that he just got more and more annoying and ridiculous, along with all of the Celtics and their false braggadocio after that series.
Magic made me a Laker fan.
Full Time Boyfriend, never knew it was a job
ya’ll guys are ridiculous, mines well be single lol if you feel that way, just my opinion

Nah, I don't feel that way.
But if I put part-time boyfriend that doesn’t exactly sound good either. lol. Also, I know you’ve heard at least one point in time where a man/woman equates being in a relationship to being on a job and how you have to keep on top of it if you want it to work out. It was just a little jokie joke though. My girlfriend is great. lol.

are already young jerks so don’t mind me. LOL if you want it to work, it does take time, maybe we should start collecting dollars for it. LOL you know atleast get something out of it, if it doesn’t last

how you became a lakers fan: been a fan ever since watching kobe and the lakers for the first time back in 2001. its hard to not root for such a awesome team when you’re living in LA aka the greatest city in the world.
favorite memory of all time and of the 2009-2010 season: all time is game 4, first round of the 2006 playoff vs. the suns. derek fisher and his intangibles driving past 3 celtics in game 3 of the finals for this year.
most heartbreaking lakers experience: 2006 playoff…..
favorite lakers player: kobe
greatest all-time laker: kobe, 5 rings plus beating the celtics this year puts him on top. wasn’t fortunate enough to watch magic do his thing, but from the replays i’ve seen i have to say kobe is still just that much better at doing things that make you go “did he just f**king do that?!”.
last time you went to a game at staples center and/or at the forum: new years day 2010. kobe hit a buzzer beating 3 against the kings. it was sweeeeeeeeeeet!
opposing team, player you dislike the most: lebron james, didn’t really like his attitude since the beginning. the one hour tv special didn’t exactly help in mending his image either.
interactions with the lakers players: nada
most cherished piece of lakers memorabilia you have: my black and yellow kobe 1s.
memorable stories about being a lakers fan: tossing my chair at the wall in excitement and breaking it after kobe’s game winner in game 4 of the 2006 playoff.
