USA-Spain Live Thread
Haven't seen a thread for this yet and we're a few minutes deep already. First semi-serious test for USA today.
Drinking Triggers!
- Lamar Odom misses a layup
- Lamar Odom gets his own rebound and scores
- An American player slips while dribbling the ball
- Mention of Spain missing their best player (Pau)
- By the way, what are you doing drinking at noon on a sunday?? Probably the same thing I'm doing! Cheers

Few minutes in and not a single foul on Spain, 5 or 6 on the USA
Expected, but officiating is questionable imo

fuck
you beat me to the game thread by 1 minute. Guess I’ll delete mine.
Adam Morrison has more rings than Lebron, Bosh, and Wade combined?
if people are there we can delete this one
this thread is a ghost town

usa has a great start, up by 10.

Wow
USA looks incredibly sharp to start this game

man
officials aren’t even trying to make it look like they might sort of kind of want to call this evenly.

Rubio
is something special. Can’t wait to see him in the NBA
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.
wanna see what happens when someone forces Rubio to be a shooter
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.
This
Rubio can’t shoot and can’t finish. Our guards need to play the pass every time.

I agree, he was at the open at therack and passed out a few plays ago,,no bueno

No way FIBA guards keep up with him off the dribble.

Nice offensive flow there

Rudy Fernandez
reminds me a lot of Vujacic with his style and attitude. Coaching nightmare
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.
He's much better than Vujacic
But yeah, his whining recently hasn’t helped his image.
To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.
i agree
but i mean more that they both have tendencies to think of themselves as better than they actually are. They sometimes try to do too much on the floor etc.
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.
That's true
He fancies himself a playmaker when he really just needs to be cutting off the ball and spotting up.
To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.
Billups had the open layup there
Didn’t need to make the pass.

ODOM
To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.
I think Odom needs to play more like a traditional big on this roster
let the wings and guards set the table for him while he cleans up the boards. USA absolutely owning the boards by the way.

Spain 5-25
Ouch.

i really like this guy
he’s a tenacious defender too. He runs through screens hard. If he bulks up a bit he’s gonna be an amazing all around point guard

Yeah, he's going to be a force offensively
Lots of shades of Nash.

can't expect that foul in fiba

45-33 USA at the half
i wish there were live box scores for these games
3 Heat can't stop the 3peat.
im curious about rebounding numbers
aside from one sequence I can think of the USA seems like they’ve been owning the glass
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.
Spain's big problem is that their guards aren't athletic enough to create consistently
Against this tough ball pressure. Marc isn’t a good enough post scorer to compensate. It’s easy to see how Pau makes this team immeasurably better.
To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.
I was totally thinking the same thing
Marc is a good ball player, but he’s no where near the level of his brother and our Gasol
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.
err yeah...the brother i meant IS our gasol...
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.
he still has tons of time to improve
he’s only been playing for 2 seasons, pau’s been around since 2001
3 Heat can't stop the 3peat.
It's not fair to compare them yet. Mark is still pretty young.

Well, that's true
But we’re talking in the present moment. Marc definitely has a lot of room to improve is pretty damn good already.

At the present moment Marc isn't even close to Pau.
Pau is one of the top big men in the NBA.

Yeah, Pau is probably a top fifteen player at the moment
Marc is definitely up there — he’s probably a top eight or so center at the moment.

Hrm
In no specific order: Kobe, LeBron, Wade, Howard, Durant, Paul, Duncan, Roy, Nowitzki, Bosh, Gasol, Anthony. Yeah, I suppose top ten depending on where you rank some of these players. Kind of meaningless at this stage.

D Will wants some <3
:D
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.
Ah, forgot Williams
Yeah, that puts Gasol out of the top ten.
To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.
well i think gasol is the best PF in the nba right now
over duncan (obviously best PF of all time but he’s old), bosh & nowitzki.
so top 10 in no particular order: kobe, lebron, wade, howard, paul, durant, anthony, williams, gasol, roy.
3 Heat can't stop the 3peat.
Duncan is still pretty damn good
Even if he can’t guard on the perimeter any more. His production last year was pretty amazing considering that his minutes were cut down. He still outclasses Gasol by a thin margin. As for Nowitzki, I still see him as a better offensive player.
To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.
eh...
Gasol
18.3 PPG

Duncan

18.9 Total Rebound %
Nowitzki
25.0 PPG
7.7 RPG
57.8 True Shooting %

11.7 Total Rebound %
3 Heat can't stop the 3peat.
Gasol
interestingly enough had his first 10+ reb per game season last year. Or its at least 1 of only 2 that I remember seeing when looking it up. Thought that was kinda weird. lol.

thats a darn good question

Depends on the team
Rubio needs a dedicated pick-and-roll team with a lot of shooters to take advantage of his talents. That’s about the opposite of the triangle.

this is too funny
"That means no more coming into camp fat and out of shape, when your team is relying on your leadership on and off the court. It also means no more blaming others for our team's failure, or blaming staff members for not overdramatizing your injuries so that you avoid blame for your lack of conditioning.
